Emergency Relief

• CDC monitored use of packets in Haiti and showed people used it correctly provided simple training was provided

• Developed trainer of trainer video and SOP

• Used for many major disasters including tsunami, earthquakes, floods, cholera outbreaks

Integration into HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, School, and WASH Programs

• Clinically effective– Absorption of ARVs and

improvement in nutritional status

– Incentive to go to clinic

• Cost-effective– 40x less expensive than ARV

or nutrition therapy

• Better overall outcomes– Increased school attendance

and adoption of hygiene/sanitation practices

Integration with Nutrition Programs• Malnourished children are

susceptible to opportunistic infections

• Cost effective at 40x less/day than ready to eat food

• CARE Ethiopia incorporated P&G packets into program for malnourished children and found less diarrhea and trend for reduced time on therapy

• Keep a Child Alive providing P&G packets with nutrition for PLWA

• Provided more than 30 million packets each for East & West Africa famine relief

Build Awareness to Help Address Global Water Crisis• Little awareness that diarrhea

kills more children than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined

• P&G is using our marketing expertise to raise awareness

President Clinton announced new goal to save one life every hour by providing 2 billion liters of clean water every year by 2020– Leverage marketing assets to

build awareness of global clean water crisis
