1. Identify Project: Determine the appropriate application method for site preparation, tool and equipment requirements

2. Prepare Site: Remove all stones larger than 1.5 inch in diameter and clear the area of all garbage, grass, bushes, or small trees, debris, plastics and any organic matter

3. Check Weather: Allow for at least 24 hours of dry/rain free weather before starting product application4. Mix: Prepare water and dilution mix according to calculations produced by our provided “Field Installation Guide”5. Prepare Road: Based on the application method, further road preparation may be needed prior to applying the

polymer solution. In Mix-in applications, further grading and shaping will be required to obtain proper pitch and drainage

6. Application: The polymer solution is sprayed onto the prepared soil7. Compact: The surface is compacted and rolled to a smooth, hard surface with Pneumatic or double drum roller

“A hard surface is formed when a composite of ground aggregate is mixed with a polymeric emulsion and pressed into place, removing the water. “

LANDLOCK® is comprised of soft segments and hard, crystalline segments. When pressed together, the soft segments like to interact with other soft segments, forming tough, flexible regions; and the hard segments will crystallize together with other crystalline segments, forming regions of very high strength.

The soft segments allow flexibility and toughness. The composite can flex with changing temperatures or pressures typical for a trafficked road surface. The ability to flex under these stresses minimizes possible damage. This would include aid in cracks with very plastic soils.

Along with the balance of hard and soft segments in the polymer, there are additives that can influence performance and that enables LANDLOCK® to tailor the performance for the specific region where the product is to be used.

LANDLOCK® has high viscosity when not being mixed (a good thing) and low viscosity when being mixed (also a good thing). This is called thixotropy.

Topical application and penetration makes this a good method for strength potentials and reduction in heavy specialized machinery for rural and feeder roadways.

This is good for a topical application penetration without using specialized heavy equipment.

Glass Transition Temperature (Tg) of a polymer. What is it and why is this important?

The glass transition temperature is a function of chain flexibility. The glass transition occurs when there is enough vibrational energy in the system to create sufficient free-volume to permit sequences of 6-10 main-chain carbons to move together as a unit. At this point, the mechanical behavior of the polymer changes from rigid and brittle to tough and leathery --- the behavior we define as “plastic behavior”.

The glass transition temperature is more important in applications than is the melting point, because it tells us a lot about how the polymer behaves under ambient conditions. The melting temperature is often referred to as the “first-order transition” --- that’s where the polymer changes state from solid to liquid.

Technically, only crystalline polymers have a true melting point; that’s the temperature at which the crystallites melt and the total mass of plastic becomes amorphous. Amorphous polymers do not have a true melting point, however, they do have a first-order transition where their mechanical behavior transitions from a rubbery nature to viscous rubbery flow.

LANDLOCK® scientists take advantage of years of experience in the polymer field. Our products have a variety of molecular chain and strand sizes, many of which take shape utilizing extensive knowledge of Tg, allowing for specific penetration and strength solutions.

Our products can be manipulated by our team to be suitable for nearly any aggregate and soil type and in nearly any environment. LANDLOCK® engineers add constituents to our products to assist in added shear strength, water resistance, freeze thaw temperatures and many other needs for any project and in any part of the world.

These samples are produced in a standard ASTM proctor with 3% active VAC by weight. The insitu soils are run through a #4 sieve. Pigments can be added during application to produce most any color road desired. UCS unconfined Compression tests increase insitu soil strengths to higher than 100% and sometimes up to 600% greater.

Pot Holes Existing pot holes can easily be repaired without heating asphalt. Simply mix proper aggregate with LANDLOCK® product and fill in the pot holes, compress, then repeat until proper compaction is achieved. Once the pot hole is filled, spray the pothole and surrounding area with LANDLOCK® again to seal. Traffic will further compact the area over time.

LANDLOCK® technology renews deteriorating roads for regular daily use and improves the structural environment to decrease future pot hole issues. The combination of maximum product penetration depth and the flexible nature of our polymers significantly increase the strength and durability of the road surface. Structural quality improvement is found with each subsequent application.

NOTE: This entire process is complemented by the fact that LANDLOCK® Requires NO HEAT for application!
