Central Station North Beach foot beat Officers Kevin

Worrell and Nick Stewart located and arrested a 44

year old female suspect, Maria Vayner, for aggravated

assault. She stabbed two victims in a random attack in

the area of Lombard and Powell. Vayner is still in

custody.

A 63 year old male suspect, Herpel Nious, was arrested for brandishing and threating two people with a

knife. One victim approached Nious about smoking in the park and was threatened by the suspect. Officers

Vanessa Johnson, Ryan Vail, Serhiy Kryvoruka and Kwame Lovell arrested the suspect on John Street just

outside of the park. Nious is still in custody.

Washington Square Park (Filbert Street & Stockton Street)

Date: 05/13/18

Time: 04:57 PM

Type of Arrest: Possession on Deadly Weapon with Intent to Assault, Threats, Willful Cruelty to Child

SFPD Case #181332407

A 33 year old male, Jason Juarez, was arrested after waving a knife and pursuing random park goers in

Washington Square Park. Three victims were threatened by the suspect, one victim was with their teenage

children during the incident. Officers Kimberly Larkey, Eric Barreneche, Jesse O” Keeffe and Wallace

Kresley located and arrested Juarez on Flibert Street and Stockton Street. Juarez is still in custody.

An unknown suspect forced open the gate and front door locks and stole property.

4/24 12:00am Burglary, Commercial 2100 BLK of Larkin

An unknown suspect forced open the back door and stole property.

4/24 1:27pm Burglary, Residence 1400 BLK of Montgomery

The suspect entered a residence under construction and was confronted by a worker. The suspect fled and jumped over the fence onto another property. The suspect stole a statue from the next property and jumped the fence onto a steep cliff. Officers arrived and detained the suspect. Arrest made.

4/24 7:00pm Burglary, Commercial Unit BLK of Geary

An unknown suspect entered the office as the cleaning crew were exiting and stole property.

4/25 6:33am Burglary, Commercial 700 BLK of Montgomery

An unknown suspect used a code to enter the building and damaged the door hinge to enter the office. It is unknown if any items had been stolen at time of report.

4/25 4:00pm Burglary, Apartment 1000 BLK of Chestnut

An unknown suspect entered the residential garage that may have been left open and stole the victim’s vehicle with the key inside it.

4/26 10:57am Burglary, Commercial 800 BLK of Beach

An unknown suspect entered the restaurant while the door was propped open for delivery and stole property.

4/27 10:00am Burglary, Apartment 200 BLK of Francisco

An unknown suspect forced open the apartment door and stole property.

4/28 9:53pm Burglary, Attempt, Commercial 600 BLK of Market

A witness heard a loud crash of glass and saw the suspect retrieved an item he had used to throw through the window. The suspect appeared nervous and fled the scene. Officers responded and detained the suspect matching the description provided by the witness. The witness positively identified the suspect. Arrest made.

4/29 11:00pm Burglary, Hot Prowl 1300 BLK of Larkin

An unknown suspect pried open the victim’s apartment while he was sleeping and stole property.

4/30 7:30am Burglary, Apartment 1000 BLK of Bush

An unknown suspect entered the apartment through an unlocked kitchen window and stole property.

4/30 8:00am Burglary, Apartment 1600 BLK of Leavenworth

An unknown suspect entered the apartment building. The resident of the building did not recognize the suspect and confronted him. The suspect was holding a FedEx envelope. The resident told the suspect to put back the envelope, but the suspect fled the scene.

5/2 2:13am Burglary, Commercial 100 BLK of Clay

An unknown suspect entered the store’s office through the side door and stole property. It is unknown how the suspect gain entry through the side door.

5/2 5:19am Burglary, Hot Prowl 900 BLK of Grant

The victim was sleeping in his room when he heard noises in the hallway. The victim went to investigate and saw two unknown

suspects in the hallway. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim and punched the victim in the head. The suspects went through the victim’s belongings and then fled the scene.

An unknown suspect shattered the store window and stole property.

5/3 5:59am Burglary, Commercial Unit BLK of Hardie

An unknown suspect gained entry to the bar and stole property. It is unknown how the suspect gained entry to the bar.

5/5 11:56am Burglary, Commercial 700 BLK of Montgomery

An unknown suspect gained entry to the store’s stockroom and stole property. It is unknown how the suspect gained entry to the store.

5/5 1:19pm Burglary, Commercial 900 BLK of California

The victim lost his hotel room keys that had the room number on them and when he returned to the hotel room, his property had been stolen by an unknown suspect.

An unknown suspect entered the victim’s apartment where the door was left ajar and stole money.

5/8 1:47am Burglary, Apartment 800 BLK of Jones

An unknown suspect pried open the front door of the apartment building and stole a package from the lobby.

5/8 7:25am Burglary, Apartment 600 BLK of Stockton

An unknown suspect entered the apartment through the bedroom window and stole property. It is unknown if the bedroom window was left unlocked.

5/8 5:30pm Burglary, Garage 300 BLK of Geary

An unknown suspect forced open the supply room and stole tools.

5/9 5:53pm Burglary, Residence 200 BLK of Filbert

A neighbor saw the window of the victim’s residence broken and contacted the police. Officers responded and found the suspect laying on the bed inside the residence. Arrest made.

5/9 7:45pm Burglary, Residence 1600 BLK of Larkin

An unknown suspect used an unknown tool and manipulated the building’s door lock to gain entry. The suspect then stole a

package from the lobby and fled the scene.

5/10 7:45am Burglary, Hot Prowl 1600 BLK of Larkin

The victim exited her bedroom and found the suspect inside of her apartment. The suspect then fled the scene. The suspect pried open the apartment building door and entered the victim’s apartment through the unlocked front door.

5/10 10:55pm Burglary, Apartment 1700 BLK of Larkin

An unknown suspect forced open the front door of the apartment building a stole a package. The suspect was confronted by a resident and the suspect tried to flee. The resident grabbed the suspect and the suspect gave the package back. The suspect then fled the scene.

5/11 5:00pm Burglary, Commercial 200 BLK of Battery

An unknown suspect stole the key to the restaurant from a key lock box and stole property inside.

5/11 11:45pm Burglary, Commercial 200 BLK of California

An unknown suspect forced open the stairwell door to access the office and stole property.

5/12 1:40am Burglary, Apartment 200 BLK of Lombard

An unknown suspect cut the lock of the storage cage in the garage and stole the victim’s property.

5/12 4:01am Burglary, Commercial 400 BLK of Beach

Two unknown suspects cut the lockbox containing a key to the store and entered the store. The suspects stole money from the cash registers and fled the scene.

5/12 3:20pm Burglary, Attempt, Commercial 200 BLK of Vallejo

The victim was working in the back of the office when he heard someone trying to unlock the front door. The victim walked towards the front door and asked what the suspect was doing. The suspect saw the victim and fled the scene.

5/13 4:42am Burglary, Commercial Unit BLK of Spear

An unknown suspect shattered the store’s glass door and stole property.

4/30 2:10am Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon Jack Kerouac/Grant

The victim was in a verbal argument with an unknown suspect. The suspect walked around the corner and returned with a wooden

stick. The suspect struck the victim in the arm with the stick then fled the scene.

5/4 9:21pm Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon 500 BLK of Sutter

The victim was blocking the store entry way trying to take a selfie while smoking. An unknown suspect was inside the store and told the suspect to leave. The victim stated he will leave after taking the picture. The suspect pulled out a BB gun and shot the victim in the hip. The suspect then fled the scene.

5/6 5:20pm Aggravated Assault, With Force Unit BLK of Beach

An unknown suspect approached the victim and began yelling at him. The suspect then punched the victim in the back of the head causing the victim to hit a light pole in front of him. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect stomped on the victim’s head multiple times. The suspect then fled the scene.

Robbery – Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear.

5/10 10:30pm Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon Broadway/Columbus

The victim was in a verbal argument with the suspect. The suspect then struck the victim with a skateboard and fled the scene.

5/10 10:45pm Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon 800 BLK of Geary

An unknown suspect struck the victim with a metal pipe as the victim walked out of the building.

5/12 3:40am Assault, With Caustic Chemical 700 BLK of Post

An unknown suspect said something to the victim, but he could not hear what was said. The victim approached the suspect and asked what she said. The suspect then pepper sprayed the victim in the face and fled the scene.

5/12 10:45am Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon Pine/Front

An unknown suspect was rambling behind the victim. The victim turned around and was punched in his arm. The victim started to chase the suspect, but noticed that his arm was bleeding from being stabbed by an unknown object.

4/23 10:10am Robbery, With Force Icehouse/Green

The suspect grabbed the victim’s cell phone from behind and fled. The victim chased after the suspect. The victim asked passersby to help get her phone back. The passersby surrounded the suspect and asked for the phone back. The suspect punched the victim in the ear. Officers then arrived on scene and detained the suspect. Arrest made.

4/25 2:45pm Robbery, Attempt, With Gun Stockton/Washington

An unknown suspect approached the victim and grabbed her purse which was slung on her shoulder. The victim held onto her purse, then the suspect struck her face with a gun. A witness confronted the suspect and got into a physical fight. The suspect pointed the gun in the witness' face, but the witness hit the suspect’s arm away and punched him in the face. The witness then swept the suspect’s legs and the suspect fell to the ground. A second suspect came and helped the suspect up and they fled in a vehicle.

4/26 11:35am Robbery, Commercial, With Other Weapon 500 BLK of Geary

An unknown suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. The suspect heard an employee alerting the store manager of the incident through a walkie talkie and struck the employee in the head with a bottle of shampoo. The store manager tried to separate the suspect and employee and received an abrasion on his arm. The suspect then fled the scene.

4/28 10:53am Robbery, Commercial With Force 100 BLK of Powell

An unknown suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. The employee tried to stop the suspect from leaving the store, but the suspect pushed the employee away and fled the scene.

4/29 4:58pm Robbery, With Force Mason/Jefferson

The suspect reached into the victim’s tip jar and stole money. The victim’s wife grabbed the suspect’s hood as he walked away. The suspect turned around and slapped her in the face. Officers ar-

rived and detained the suspect. Arrest made.

5/3 1:00am Robbery, With Force Columbus/Broadway

Three unknown suspects approached the victim and knocked him to the ground. The suspects kicked and punched the victim multiple times and stole his wallet and watch. The suspects then fled the scene.

5/3 5:00pm Robbery, Commercial, With Force 100 BLK of Grant

An unknown suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. An employee confronted the suspect and told him to put the item back. The suspect pushed the employee and fled the scene.

5/5 5:50am Robbery, With Force Market/Drumm

An unknown suspect approached the victim and grabbed his cell phone from his hands. The suspect then reached into the victim’s back pocket and removed his wallet. The suspect then fled the scene.

5/6 2:30am Robbery, Commercial, With Force 500 BLK of Sutter

An unknown suspect entered the store and placed an item in his waistband. The suspect grabbed another item and brought it to the counter. The suspect handed the employee money. The employee told the suspect he needed to pay for the item in his waistband, but the suspect denied having any other item. The suspect asked for the money back, but the employee refused to give it back. The suspect walked behind the counter and fearing for her safety, the employee placed the money on the counter. The suspect grabbed the money and fled the scene.

5/6 11:10pm Robbery, With Force 400 BLK of Market

Two unknown suspects approached the victim and pulled on the victim’s backpack. The victim tried to take off his jacket, so he could run away from the suspects. As the victim tried to run away, one of the suspects punched him in the head. The suspects then fled the scene.

5/7 10:59pm Robbery, Commercial, With Force 100 BLK of Jackson

Four unknown suspects entered the store and an employee recog-nized them from prior thefts. The employee confronted the suspects as they removed items from the shelf. The suspects shoved the employee and pushed pass him. The suspects then fled the scene.

5/8 10:00pm Robbery, With Force Mason/Beach

Two unknown suspects pushed the victim to the ground and grabbed her purse. The suspects then fled the scene.

5/9 12:39pm Robbery, Commercial, With a Knife 200 BLK of Post

An unknown suspect walked into the store with a pocket knife in his hand. The suspect began taking sunglasses off the display. An employee told the suspect to leave. The suspect told the employee to stay where she was and fled the scene.

5/9 6:37pm Robbery, Commercial, With Gun Unit BLK of New Montgomery

An unknown suspect entered the store and pointed a gun at the employees. The suspect ordered the employees to the register. One of the employees opened the registers and gave the suspect money. The suspect then ordered the employee to open the safe. The employee opened the safe and gave the suspect money. The suspect then fled the scene.

5/9 8:20pm Robbery, With Force 600 BLK of Columbus

An unknown suspect approached the victim and punched him in the head several times. The suspect then took the victim’s shoes and fled the scene.

5/9 9:40pm Robbery, With Force Powell/Washington

Two unknown suspects struck the victim’s head from behind and stole his bag that was placed on the ground between his legs. The suspects then fled the scene.

5/10 6:07pm Robbery, Commercial, With Force 500 BLK of Market

The suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. An employee followed the suspect outside of the store and grabbed the bag of stolen items. The suspect then swung at the employee. The employee stepped back to avoid the punch and took the suspect to the ground. Arrest made.

5/10 7:10pm Robbery, Commercial, With Force 300 BLK of Post

The suspect entered the store and stole a jacket. The suspect was confronted by security outside of the store. The suspect used both arms and pushed security away in attempt to flee. Security was able to pull the suspect to the ground. Arrest made.

5/11 2:12am Robbery, Attempt, Commercial, With Gun 100 BLK of Pine

An unknown suspect entered the store and pointed a gun under his shirt at the employee. The suspect demanded money, but the employee told him that he could not open the register. The suspect asked for cigarettes and the employee told him the store does not carry cigarettes. The suspect fled the scene without taking any items.

5/11 4:40pm Robbery, With Other Weapon Unit BLK of Embarcadero

An unknown suspect threw a bottle at the victim then pushed the victim to the ground. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s backpack that was on the ground and fled the scene.

5/12 11:09pm Robbery, With Force New Montgomery/Jessie

Two unknown suspects approached the victim and one punched her in the face as the other snatched her purse from her. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle.

5/13 3:38pm Robbery, With Gun Unit BLK of Spofford

Two unknown suspects entered the Mahjong Parlor and pointed guns at a victim. A majority of the people ran outside in fear of their safety. The suspects stole purses that were slung over the back of chairs. The suspects then fled the scene.

Burglary, Vehicle 5/2/18 1617 hrs 200 BLK of North Point Street On 05/02/18, plainclothes officers responded to reports of a vehicle burglary in progress. Officers arrived on scene and located a suspect matching the description given by dispatch. Officers detained the suspect after a short foot pursuit. A witness was located and positively identified the suspect. A computer query revealed the suspect was on probation out of San Francisco for driving under the influence. The registered owner of the vehicle responded to Central Station and identified the property stolen from the vehicle. Suspect was booked at County Jail Theft, From Locked Vehicle 5/6/18 1200 hrs 2200 BLK of Leavenworth Street On 4/29/18, The Victim came to Central Station to complete a vehicle burglary report that occurred earlier in the day. On 5/1/18, The Victim came to Central Station with video evidence he obtained from a neighbor that captured the vehicle burglary. A photograph of the suspect was obtained from the video and a crime bulletin was issued. The Suspect was identified through the crime bulletin and officers learned the suspect was already in custody at County Jail for an unrelated incident. Officers added charges to the Suspect for the vehicle burglary case they were investigating. Burglary, Residence Forcible Entry 5/9/18 1753hrs 200 BLK of Filbert Street On 05/09/18, officers responded to the 1400 BLK of Montgomery and spoke to a witness who was friends and neighbors with the victim. The victim was on vacation and the witness was keeping an eye on her neighbor’s apartment. The witness noticed a broken sliding door on the victim’s residence and dialed 911. Officers responded to the victim’s residence and found the suspect inside the residence. After speaking to the victim, the suspect was not known or allowed in the residence. The suspect was taken in to custody without incident and he was booked at County Jail.

Burglary, Vehicle 5/10/18 1940 hrs 300 BLK of North Point Street On 5/10/18, Plainclothes officers were conducting surveillance in the high auto burglary area of Fisherman’s Wharf. Officers witnessed the suspect look into many parked vehicles’ windows while riding a bicycle. An officer witness the suspect break the window of a vehicle and steal two backpacks from the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and booked into County Jail. A laptop was stolen and recovered and given back to the owner within an hour of the incident. Robbery, Commercial, w/Force 5/10/18 1807 hrs 500 BLK of Market Street On 5/10/18 the suspect walked into the business, selected many boxes of chocolate and walked out of the store without paying for any of the items. The victim is an employee and knows the suspect as a frequent shoplifter. The victim attempted to retrieve the stolen items and the suspect threw many punches toward the victim. Officers arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was later booked at County Jail.

Each month Central Police Station features one

of its officers in an effort to learn more about the

men and women who police our neighborhood.

This month, we interviewed Officer Kimberly Ng,

a 2-year member of Central Police Station.

Officer Ng was born in San Francisco. She graduated from Terra Linda High School in Marin County and went on to attend college at San Francisco State

University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.

Officer Ng joined the San Francisco Police Department in January 2014. After graduating from the Police Academy, she was assigned to Bayview Station for field training. She was then assigned to Northern Station for her probation station. After probation, she was assigned to Central Station for her permanent

station.

Officer Ng is a patrol officer on the swing shift and her beat is the Fisherman’s Wharf/Pier 39 area. Officer Ng is a Field Training Officer and is Crisis

Intervention Trained.

Officer Ng’s favorite thing about the Central is the people and the community.

Definition of Suspicious Activity

Suspicious activity is any observed behavior that could indicate a crime-related incident

has been committed, or about to be committed. Unusual items or situations: A vehicle is

parked in an odd location, a package/luggage is unattended, a window/door is open that is

usually closed, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations occur.

Examples of Suspicious Activity:

An individual peering into vehicles to locate any valuables left unattended.

An individual trying door handles to vehicles, and/or residences to gain access to the

vehicle and/ or residence.

An individual checking front doors of residences to locate any unattended packages, or

individuals following delivery trucks to see where the truck is dropping off packages.

Definition of Community Policing

Community policing, or community-oriented policing, is a strategy of policing that focuses

on police building ties and working closely with members of the communities.

• Homeless Outreach and Outreach to Drug Users: Central Station officers coordinate with city

agencies to provide outreach and assistance to rehabilitate those who are dependent on

illegal drugs and outreach to homeless individuals to connect them with resources and

support.

• Foot Patrols: Central Station have beat officers assigned to Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf,

Chinatown, North Beach and Market/Drumm area.

• Monthly Police Community Relations Meetings: Community Meetings are held continuously.

Officers also attend meetings with merchants groups, business groups, development

authorities and others. Concerns are voiced and addressed through problem solving.

• Email Updates: Central Station sends out newsletter updates to residents in the District that

alerts residents of crime trends, upcoming community events, crime prevention tips, and

information on how to contact officers at the District Station.
