CLARIFICATIONS

1. QUESTION: There is no mention of duct removal in the RFP, only that new duct is required per item b. Mechanical/Plumbing i. New Ductwork and Grilles. Will UCSD be removing the existing duct work or is that a contractor scope?

ANSWER: Any modification to the existing duct work including the demolition or installation of Phoenix valves, electrical, control wiring, occupancy sensors, fume hood sash sensors, fire dampers, smoke detectors, thermostats and wall penetrations, is the responsibility of the contractor and is part of their scope of work. This includes existing zones and new zones in the classroom/meeting room and tissue culture room and reconfiguration of main lab ducting. UCSD will not be removing any of these systems.

2. QUESTION: Per items c. Electrical iii. and iv. on page 4 of 13 under Design Criteria providing emergency power is required. During the job walk there was discussion on this topic and we request clarification. Is emergency power required?

ANSWER: No e-Power required this project. Referenced noted here has now been removed with Addendum #2 to the Bid Documents.

3. QUESTION: In Design Criteria, page 2 of 13, at 6. Finishes d. CSWK "No new cabinets beyond sinks, Some enclosed wall cabinets." Is stated, but there is also the drawing on 1 O of 13 that shows casework well past the sinks and fume hood. What is the desired amount of counter top space with casework?

ANSWER: There are 15 ft. of continuous lower cabinets and counters to the left (west) side of the fume hood. With the exception of the sink base, all lower cabinets are drawer units with no knee spaces. There are 3 ft. of glass door upper cabinets directly to the left of the fume hood and 9 ft. of glass door upper cabinets to the left of the sink. Referenced section of design criteria document will be edited to reflect this clarification and issued as part of Addendum #3.

4. QUESTION: Is a specification available for the curtain?

ANSWER: Curtain spec will be part of Addendum #3 and shall read as follows:

"Curtain shall be similar to Black Dura-Pro fire rated vinyl lab curtains with weighted bottom hems, 5" sweep skirts with snaps and Velcro closures- on an HH5250 track system."

(See attached photos of curtain installation at similar lab on Campus.) The curtain and track system shown was provided by: Louis H. Hill http://louishhill.com.

5. QUESTION: Is the hazardous report available?

ANSWER: The test samples were collected on Tuesday morning (313) and report will be distributed as soon as it is made available.

6. QUESTION: Will the popcorn ceiling be removed during the hazardous abatement?

ANSWER: Only if the HazMat report indicates that it requires special treatment.

7. QUESTION: Please confirm that all items deemed to be hazardous in the space will be abated and disposed of by UCSD.

ANSWER: Confirmed.

8. QUESTION: Does the alternate for new storefront need to match the existing adjacent classrooms with infill panels?

ANSWER: The new panels should match in appearance with the rest of the floor's exterior. New panels should have glazing to the top with mullions aligned to neighboring existing spaces and flush opaque panels below. See line item 11 below regarding meeting current energy compliance at the new storefront.

9. QUESTION: Does the floor power outlet need to be cut and capped back to the panel?

ANSWER: Yes. There are at least 2 existing floor receptacle locations in this project; one in each existing space.

10. QUESTION: Please confirm LEED certification is required on this project.

ANSWER: All new construction projects must meet Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Silver certification or better; however, no formal certificate is required for this project.

11 . QUESTION: Assuming exercising the Enhancement to replace the storefront: Will the panels require glazing that complies with new T24 codes or should we aim to replace with glazing similar to that already in place?

ANSWER: All new construction and renovations on campus require adherence to current codes including T24 (Spec Section 01410, Part 1.2.A.8) so new storefront should meet these requirements.

12. QUESTION: Design Criteria sketch on page 10 labels a room as 6126 A whereas the written descriptions note room 6124 A - please clarify if room 6126 A is actually 6124 A?

ANSWER: Plan reference to Rm #6126 should be changed to 6124 and reference to 6126A should be changed to 6124A respectively to match the write-up. - This correction will be noted in Addendum #3.

13. QUESTION: The written description of lighting on page 4 of Design Criteria is considerably different than the plan notes on page 10. Please provide a written description of lighting requirements for rooms 6120 and 6124 A (noted as 6126 A on page 10)?

ANSWER: Page 4 of Design Criteria will be updated to coordinate with plan in Addendum #3.

14. QUESTION: The existing wall has a textured finish. Please confirm what type of drywall finish is required.

ANSWER: Match texture of existing.

15. QUESTION: It appears the existing lab waste into the space is Pyrex glass pipe. Please confirm that the glass mechanical joint system will be utilized on this project.

ANSWER: All new work on the lab waste piping system should be in conformance with the University Master Spec 15221Section3.3.

16. QUESTION: The floor plan calls for wood base cabinets. The specification section provided in the sample spec section index calls for plastic laminate laboratory casework. Please confirm what type of cabinets are required.

ANSWER: Wood core with laminate veneer.
