Our client's challengeA legislative change in Angola required allcontractors, previously paid outside of Angola,to be paid in country and in the local currency,Angolan kwanza. Due to delays in the localbanking system our client faced delays ofup to a month in paying the contractors.

Our solutionWe took on the challenge of reducing the delay inpayments on behalf of our client. We liaised closelywith our Angolan banks and worked with them toprovide upfront visibility of the 100 plus contractorpayments to be made. Subsequently, we createda bespoke solution with our Angolan bankingpartners, initiating the payment in Angolan kwanzaand then converting it into the contractors' localcurrency.

The outcomeDespite such a complex operational change forboth us and our client, every contractor receivedpayment within two weeks of submitting theirtimesheet in their chosen currency of US dollarsor UK pounds. We continue to offer our payrolladministration solution in Angola to a growingportfolio of clients and contractors.

Our client's challengeWe were approached by the procurementdepartment of a world leading oil company thatneeded a solutions provider with the capacity tomanage and payroll an additional 60 contractorsbased in 20 different countries. The previouscompany dealing with the payroll went intoadministration leaving our client in a tricky situation.

Our solutionWe tendered for the business and were subjectto a detailed capability assessment of our payrollfunding solution. We demonstrated our complianceand a high level of customer service and wereselected ahead of three other companies to takeon the project.

The following day one of our representativestravelled from the UK to the Netherlands to thepayrolling company’s office, where the personnelfiles of 60 contractors were collated over an eighthour period. The documents were returned to theUK and over the course of the following six weeks,our team contacted every individual to gain acomprehensive understanding of theircircumstances including taxation obligations,insurances and money owed.

The outcomeCompliant solutions were tailored to eachindividual’s requirements including settingup the relevant insurances. Around 80% of thecontractors in question were owed money - rangingfrom US$500 to US$100,000. We arranged all thepayments with no mark-up and at no cost to ourclient. The previous payrolling company hadn’tkept sufficient records or arranged appropriateinsurances so we kept in touch with our clientvia teleconferences three times a week over thesix-week period, to keep them updated on ourprogress and any potential issues.

Following the successful transfer of all 60 of thesecontractors onto our contracts and in responseto the high level of service provided, we wereappointed by the client as one of only twoapproved payroll providers.

Our client’s challengeOur client wanted to develop a large workforce ofexpatriates and locals based at their project site inIraq. However, they were struggling to manage thestaffing in accordance with local taxation legislationand were in need of a partner with the expertiseand experience to offer a solution to their issuesof fiscal compliance.

Our solutionWe sourced the necessary project teams for ourclient. However, recruiting the candidates was notenough. Our client’s challengeOur client in Iraq required a manpower providerthat had a credible insurance policy and couldaccept third party liability. They needed to transferthe risk to a company with global insurancearrangements in place who could arrange asolution on the client’s behalf.

Our solutionAs Iraq has a developing insurance market,it wasn’t possible to provide the required publicliability insurance direct from within the country.Using our specialist broker we were able to workwith Lloyds of London to create a policy whichresponded to our client’s requirements.

Sometimes things don’t go to plan. In cases of emergency we are thereand have partners on the ground to assist with sorting out any crises.

Withour security and medical partners we are able tosupport with incident management teams andemergency response services if required.

We have our own emergency response processesin place to support clients and are able to callupon our security and medical partners whencomplex situations arise. Our contractor’s challengeOur candidate had recently started working asan instrumentation engineer on a project in Lagos,Nigeria. On arrival he was asked to surrender hispassport for processing by the Nigerian ImmigrationService in Abuja, which typically takes at least 10working days.

Within four days of working on his new assignmentour contractor contacted us on the way to work insevere pain.

Our solutionWe contacted our partner, International SOS,and informed them of the medical emergency.The contractor was picked up immediately andtaken to the local medical clinic, where a teamof medics and a representative from NES GlobalTalent were there waiting for him. He had suffereda heart attack and needed to be repatriated to hishometown of Liverpool, UK, for immediatetreatment. Furthermore his passport was still withthe Immigration Service in Abuja.

The outcomeWe contacted the Nigerian Immigration Service torequest the immediate release of his passport. Oneof our staff travelled from Abuja to Lagos and withinthree hours of contacting us, he had his passportback.

We successfully arranged for an air ambulanceto fly from Paris to Lagos to pick up the contractorand evacuate him, escorted by a doctor, on a planeback to a hospital in Liverpool, where he wasnursed back to health.
