Sermon The Rector

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People The People may add their own petitions either silently or aloud. The Presider adds a concluding Collect.

Confession of Sin Presider Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor. Presider and People

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Presider Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

The Peace Presider The peace of the Lord be always with you. People And also with you.

The Holy Communion All who hunger are welcomed at Christ’s Holy Table.

Offertory Anthem Veiled in Darkness Rudolph

Presentation Hymn 74 Valet will ich dir geben

Presider The Lord be with you. People And also with you. Presider Lift up your hearts. People We lift them to the Lord. Presider Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People It is right to give him thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and every- where to give hanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Here a Proper Preface for Advent is said.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Hymn S-124 Sanctus Hurd

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The people stand or kneel.

Presider We give thanks to you, O God…

Therefore, according to his command, O Father, Presider and People

We remember his death, We proclaim his resurrection, We await his coming in glory;

The Presider continues: And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you…

As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Rice for Liberia

This fall, students of Trinity’s Church School are raising money to send bags of rice to the Liberian families we have worked with through PIMIL (Partners in Ministry in Liberia). Due to the Ebola epidemic these children are not in school, so they are not getting the meals they are used to. We were hoping to raise enough money to contribute one bag of rice—at the cost of $50. Right now we are $20 away from our second bag! Each bag of rice feeds a family of 4-6 for 2 weeks. The actual bags of rice are not shipped to Liberia - we will be sending the money via PIMIL, and local Episcopal Church agencies in Liberia will buy the rice for the families. Trinity parishioners will remember that Mother Abby Flemister, Trinity’s priest associate, is a prominent leader for the PIMIL organization in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. The Church School has turned this into a six week project - they are learning about Liberia, praying for all people suffering from Ebola, and working toward helping to feed children and families in this time of need.. They will be collecting money through December 7th. - please join them as you are able.

Trinity’s Giving Tree 2014! Starts Dec. 7 – runs all through Advent!

This Christmas season Trinity Church seeks to find small and meaningful ways to give to others, far and near, through a multi-pronged program, Trinity’s Giving Tree 2014. Hanging on the tree in the west end will be tags symbolizing a financial gift you can make to Episcopal Relief &

Development’s Gifts for Life program, in amounts ranging from just $15 or $20, or as high as you can dream. Take a

tag and include it with your gift of a check made out to Episcopal Relief & Development/Gifts for Life, and

place it in the offering plate. You can choose to educate a child, feed a family, build a well, or give a plow and donkey to a woman farmer – and many

other deeply meaningful gifts. Plus, 100% of your donation goes straight to the work, not to administrative costs or overhead. Also hanging on the tree will be tiny Christmas stockings made of mosquito netting which you can purchase for $12.00 each. This single gift will provide one mosquito net for persons living in Africa, saving them from malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases (deemed to be the single most significant small thing one can do to defeat illness and disease in foreign nations!). You may then place the tiny stocking on your own tree to remind you of this great need and your own generous response to it. Finally, beneath the tree will be a collection box for our friends at In The Garden. Bring personal care items such as toothpastes and toothbrushes, bath soap, razors and shaving cream, combs and hairbrushes, feminine hygiene products, and disposable baby diapers; men’s and women’s socks and briefs, warm hats and gloves, neck scarves, sweaters, and children’s outerwear; pop-top cans of vegetables, meats, and fruit, instant coffee, and Christmas candy; flashlights and batteries, and matches and candles. (A comprehensive list of suggestions may be found in The eChimes or in the Narthex.) Questions? Please contact Emily Pucker at [email protected] or Karen Peeler at [email protected]

The Presiding Bishop Welcomes Immigration Relief Thursday, November 20th, President Obama announced that his administration will offer an estimated 4-5 million undocumented immigrants the opportunity to apply for temporary relief from deportation. In response to this historic announcement, The Most. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori issued the statement below in support of this constructive step towards a more just and humane immigration system. Please take the time today to send a letter of thanks to President Obama and share this statement with your members of Congress, and ask that they join The Episcopal Church and communities across the country in swift and successful implementation of this program, and in the pursuit of a permanent legislative solution to our broken immigration system. Together with families and communities across the United States, I give thanks for President Obama's announcement that more than four million undocumented immigrants will soon be eligible for relief from the threat of deportation. Too many families have lived for too long continually worried about parents being separated from children, wage-earners and caregivers from those who depend on them, and unable to participate fully in their communities and the nation's economy. Permanent and comprehensive reform of our broken immigration system through congressional action is still urgently needed, but the President's action is a constructive step toward a system that honors the dignity and intrinsic value of every human being. It will immediately strengthen our nation's communities by allowing immigrant families much fuller participation in American civic and economic life. The Episcopal Church will work with congressional leaders and the White House to press for implementation of the President's plan as quickly, fairly, and inclusively as possible. The President's plan is not perfect. Some deserving persons and families are excluded, meaning that additional work lies ahead. All persons equally deserve the ability to pursue their dreams and contribute to their communities and families with liberty, dignity, and freedom. I pray that the President's action will lead our nation toward a future in which those sacred possibilities are open to all. -The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop and Primate, The Episcopal Church
