Volume 1, Issue 3 Week of November 6 - November 12, 2017
Principal’s Update
Hello Cowboys. We are definitely rockin’ and rollin’ along to during this 2nd nine weeks. Three weeks down and only 5 weeks left in this short 9-week period. This week is a short one! Let’s work hard and get through it so we can enjoy our three day weekend.
To all our Veteran’s, I would per-sonally like to THANK YOU for your selflessness and sacrifices that you have given our country. CONGRATULATIONS to our Hall of Fame counseling duo of Mr. Salvador Chavez and Mrs. Torita Hansby. Be-cause of there great effort our school has received the Lone Star Bronze Award in Counseling. When they return from earning this award please give them a Cowboy cheer. Encourage all our students that they must do there best on the Bench-marks this week. Please let them know that these scores have a large part to do on who we recommend to tutoring as we continue through the year. Re-member Benchmarks are used to gath-er data to see where our students are in their learning, where they need to go in their learning, and what we need to do to get them there. We are getting the Principals’
Student Advisory Committee up and
running. Please send me names of 6th,
7th and 8th graders that would be a
strong and honest voice for the stu-
dents.

AP’s in Action By Earl Sanchez &
Frenda Serda-Gerardo
Benchmarking!!!! What a
time to be celebrating the be-
ginning of a new marking peri-
od and the assessment of
where are students are in rela-
tion to the core areas. I can tell
you that the SCEI’s have been
doing a heck of job to assist us
in anticipating positive out-
comes. Needless to say, all of
you have certainly done your
part. Mrs. Serda-Gerardo and I
look forward to gains that re-
flect student growth.
On another note, we have seen
a push with students, especially
the girls wanting to hang out in
the bathrooms. This leads to
referrals based on students not
returning to class. Or better
yet, students not going to class
and not being marked absent.
How strange is that?
In the event you have a student
who is a frequent flyer, please
be extra vigilant and make sure
the student returns in a timely
manner. We will do our part
and make sure the bathrooms
are patrolled by our monitors
or security.
Have a tryptophan free week.

To grade or not to grade, that is always the question. You don’t have time to grade everything you assign but
you want to give the assignment a meaning or purpose. This week we take a look at an article by Jennifer
Gonzalez titled “20 Ways to Cut Grading Time in Half”. Hope this article helps you be able to manage and
optimize your precious time. Click on the web link below for the entire article.

Walkthroughs and Observations
• This week administration will be conducting Powerwalks, T-Tess Walkthroughs and scheduled observa-tions
• There are three Fundamental Staff Developments that have been scheduled. They will take place dur-ing your conference. These staff developments will not take the place of PLC’s. We will be giving you the time spent on these trainings back to you at a later time (SIT Committee will decide when at next meeting). Below are the dates and topics for the trainings:
Monday, November 13, 2017: Framing the Lesson
Tuesday, December 5, 2017: Small Group Purposeful Talk
Wednesday, January 10, 2017: Critical Writing
• Reminder that Powerwalks are only a 3-minute snapshot of your classroom. We do not expect to see everything. Over several Powerwalks it gives trends of what is happening in the classroom.
• Our visitors on Thursday were very excited on what they saw in the classrooms.
