The event was an opportunity to bring the school and wider community together and raise money for good causes. There were lots of great games to play, a wide range of shops and stalls, tasty food and some fabulous prizes to be won. The Bouncy Castles were very popular, as was Splat the Teacher!!! Lots of pupils wanted to splat Mr Woodhouse and me! Budding entrepreneurs in Key Stage 2 ran their own stalls and I would like to congratulate them all for their hard work. Well done also to all our raffle winners who walked away with some great prizes! If you were not present when the raffle was drawn, then please contact the office to find out if you were one of the lucky winners! Thank you to everyone who came along to share the day with our whole community and support the school. It was wonderful to see so many parents and pupils socialising and enjoying themselves. I do feel that we have a wonderful community at the RGS which will only get stronger as the school grows. Money raised from the Family Day will be split between the charitable organization Qatar Red Crescent and the Parents’ Association Fund which is used to host further events to strength our community and provide additional opportunities for pupils at the RGS.

To put on an event like this takes an incredible amount of hard work. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the day such a positive experience for all who attended. Special thank you to Janine (Noah’s Mum), Christina (Leo’s Mum) and Mahdiyya (Ayah and Basheera’s Mum) for their exceptional hard work which ensured the day was such a great success.

Year 1 Meerkats AssemblyYear 1 Meerkats performed a wonderful assembly on Thursday focused on the topic of animals. They focused on carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and shared lots of great information. They also sang a great song called ‘animals in action’, complete with actions and dancing!

Well done to the pupils and thank you to Miss Wheeler and Miss Laroza for their continued hard work.

Recycling

You might remember that a few months ago the School Council started a recycling initiative in school. This involved paper recycling bins being placed around school and a large collection cage being located in the car park. Last week the recycling company came to empty the recycling cage as it had become very full. Thank you to everyone for supporting the School Council by bringing their paper and cardboard from home to place in the recycling cage.

Quran Competition

A number of our pupils recently took place in the annual Quran Competition between different schools. Well done to everyone who took part, many of who received grades of ‘excellent.’ Special congratulations to Zaid (Year 6) who was announced as the winner for his age group.

Year 5 and 6 Residential

I will be out of school next week as I accompany the Year 5 and 6 pupils on their residential to Sri Lanka. Each morning there will be information and photos showing the activities they taken part in on display in the atrium so please take a look to see what the pupils are dong.

Have a great weekend.

Year 5 and 6 Football Tournament

Well done to the year 5 and 6 boys who took part in a football tournament this week at Qatar Finland International School against five other schools. The team were consistently strong throughout the tournament but faced some fierce competition against the other schools. Our top goal scorer was Turki who scored a great goal against AWIS school.

We would like to thank hosts Qatar Finland school for having us and for welcoming us to their school. We hope to host some tournaments at the RGS in the future.

Mr. McCullagh

Class of the Week

Maintaining high levels of attendance and punctuality at school are essential for pupils to ensure they maximise their learning time in school and reach their full potential; academically, socially and emotionally. Each week Class of the Week trophies are awarded to the classes who achieve the highest weekly attendance and who achieve the highest percentage of punctual pupils arriving by 7.45am. This week saw Nursery Starfish, Year 1 Giraffes, Year 2 Lions and Year 3/4 shared the trophy for on time arrival, while Year 3/4 got the trophy for the highest weekly attendance.

Thank you very much for ensuring your children arrive at school on time each day and do not miss school unnecessarily.

Top Table

To promote healthy eating and good table manners, pupils who demonstrate excellent behaviour, eating habits and manners during snack time and lunch time throughout the week are invited to eat lunch on the ‘Top Table’ at the end of the week.

On Thursday I enjoyed eating lunch with Ameera (Reception Dolphins), Maryam (Reception Turtles), Meyran (Year 1 Meerkats), Wali (Year 1 Giraffes), Rhiley (Year 2), Zein (Year 3/4) and Hessah (Year 5/6).
