Puerto Rico gana en tie break a México en Challenger Norceca (m) de La Habana

La Habana, 31 de mayo de 2019. – Puerto Rico superó a México 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 15-13) en su primera aparición en el Torneo Norceca Challenger Masculino de Voleibol con sede en el Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva y que otorga al campeón el boleto para la Final Mundial Clasificatoria a la Liga de las Naciones.

Emotivo partido entre dos equipos plagados de jóvenes figuras, que se enfrascaron en una lucha por cada punto, aunque los boricuas aprovecharonmuy bien los deslices de sus rivales principalmente en el servicio, que se despiden con par de reveses tras caer ayer frente a Cuba 3-0.

En el tie-break sin embargo los mexicanos apretaron el saque y fue una tenaz lucha hasta el último abrazo a 13 tantos cuando una deficiente recepción puso a los boricuas a las puertas del triunfo que no dejaron escapar tras 2 horas y 14 minutos de accionar.

Por Puerto Rico, país campeón de los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Barranquilla 2018, lideró la ofensiva el opuesto Javier Rodríguez, quien en suprimer examen internacional fue el máximo anotador con 30 unidades, seguido por Pelegrín Vargas (20), Kevin López (17) y Pedro Nieves (10).

Gonzalo Ruiz fue otra vez el mexicano más productivo hoy con 18, escoltadopor Axel Téllez Rodríguez (14) y Alejandro Moreno (12).

Los boricuas aventajaron a sus adversarios en ataque (65-48) y en servicio (11-7), mientras los mexicanos estuvieron mejor en el bloqueo (11-7) y errores no forzados (23-35).

Manuel Acevedo, director técnico de los boricuas, recordó que “fue un partido como siempre cuando nos enfrentamos, rivales que competitivamente jugamos a la par, pero los nuestros jóvenes al fin, comenzaron errando mucho y tuvimos problemas con los errores en algunaspartes de los sets, no obstante, en prueba de carácter bajo un marcador adverso de 11-12, convertimos y ganamos, y para este grupo significa mucho sacar un juego así”.

“Si no hubiésemos tenido los contratiempos del tercero creo que el choque pudimos cerrarlo en el cuarto, incluso México vino de atrás, pero lo aguantamos. En general fue muy parejo, pero cometimos muchas pifias y hay que trabajar en eso si queremos competir en el más alto nivel, en el cual existen ya dos tipos de servicio, uno duro y otro de seguridad”.

Pelegrín Vargas, el veinteañero capitán de Puerto Rico que se estrena como titular, piensa que “por la juventud de nuestro conjunto empezamos un pocotímidos, pero poco a poco fuimos viendo de lo que éramos capaces y cogimos confianza, cada vez batallamos más y logramos lo que quisimos. Los mexicanos son siempre guerreros, mis respetos a ellos por su buen trabajo, el juego se decidió por mínima diferencia que cualquiera podía triunfar. Ganamos experiencia, esto nos ayuda a crecer emocionalmente y para nuestro futuro”.

Sergio Herrera, entrenador de México, opinó consternado que “sabes cómo se siente cuando tienes el triunfo tan cerca. En general el desempeño del grupo me gustó, diez jugadores debutan a nivel internacional en mayores, pero demostraron que saben mover el balón, no tuvo un ataque como frentea Cuba, pero son eficientes en eso. Nos costó el juego tres errores en defensa y un recibo en el tie-break. Puerto Rico es eficiente, sabe trabajar, no es gran potencia en el ataque sin embargo lo hace bien en las zonas largas y sabe cambiar el ritmo”.

Su capitán Gonzalo Ruiz apuntó que “fue un desafío muy parejo, cualquiera de los podíamos llevarnos el triunfo, mejoramos mucho de ayer a hoy, un trabajo diferente, pudimos estabilizar por momentos más largos la recepción, fue un choque extenso y perdimos al límite, pero ya eso queda atrás, ahora a sacar lo positivo de estos juegos, queda mucho camino por delante y seguro nos vamos a volver a encontrar a Cuba y Puerto Rico, tenemos que pensar en el futuro y con mucha motivación”.

Este sábado concluye el torneo con el partido, a las 18 horas local, entre Puerto Rico y Cuba, este último ganador el primer día ante México 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-21). Como las jornadas anteriores, esta es trasmitida por el canal Tele Rebelde y la emisora Radio Rebelde.
