El Salvador se queda con el quinto lugar en revancha con Barbados

San Salvador, El Salvador, 3 de agosto del 2014. El Salvador finalizó en el quinto lugar del Campeonato Continental NORCECA Sub 21 de varones al vencer 3‐1 a Barbados, 25‐21, 21‐25, 25‐18, 25‐22, este domingo en el Palacio de los Deportes.

El Salvador había perdido ante Barbados en la fase de grupos, pero esta vez las cosas le

salieron mejor a los locales. “Jugamos muy organizados, Barbados es un buen equipo, es muy duro” dijo el entrenador salvadoreño Ricardo Rivera.

Samuel Valdez, Capitán de El Salvador agregó: “Fuimos un equipo más maduro. En el primer juego (ante Barbados) salimos muy ansiosos y nervioso”.

El Salvador aprovechó los errores no forzados de Barbados y eso fue la diferencia en el juego, ya que los caribeños cometieron 42 por solo 18 de los salvadoreños. El Salvador dominó en el bloqueo 8‐5, pero Barbados fue mejor en ataques 58‐44 y aces 5‐2.

Valdez, el capitán salvadoreño, anotó 28 puntos, 24 de los por ataque y tres bloqueos. Mauricio Rivas agregó 13 puntos todos por ataque. Carlos Cyrus y Jabarry Goodridge consiguieron 18 y 17 puntos, ambos con 16 puntos de ataque.

Samuel Valdez, capitán de El Salvador: “Nuestro objetivo era muy claro, ser los mejores de Centroamérica y cumplimos. Ahora veremos la posibilidad de participar en otros torneos como la Copa Panamericana, quedamos debajo de las potencias de NORCECA como Cuba, Estados Unidos y Canadá, y eso muestra el gran progreso de AFECAVOL”.

Ricardo Rivera, entrenador de El Salvador: “Creo que el torneo fue muy exitoso. Ganamos mucho más porque quería ser los mejores de Centroamérica, nosotros superamos a las islas y México. Ahora debemos mantenernos y crecer más”.

El Salvador finishes fifth with victory over Barbados

San Salvador, El Salvador, August 3, 2014. El Salvador finished the NORCECA Boys’ Under‐21 Continental Championship in fifth place with a 25‐21, 21‐25, 25‐18, 25‐22, win over Barbados on Sunday at Palacios de los Deportes.

El Salvador had lost to Barbados in the game of the group stage, worse this time things went well for the hosts. “We played very

organized, Barbados is a good team, it’s a hard team”, told El Salvador’s head coach, Ricardo Rivera.

Samuel Valdez, El Salvador’s Captain told: “We were a more mature team. In the first game we were more anxious and nervous”.

El Salvador won thanks to the Barbados's mistakes, they scored 42 points on Barbados errors while committing 18. El Salvador dominated the blocks (8‐5) and Barbados led in kills 58‐44 and aces 5‐2.

Estados Unidos gana el bronce, venciendo a Puerto Rico

San Salvador, El Salvador, 3 de agosto del 2014. Estados Unidos venció 3‐0 a Puerto Rico, 26‐24, 25‐19, 27‐25, y se quedó con la medalla de bronce del Campeonato Continental NORCECA Sub 21 de varones, en partido realizado el Palacios de los Deportes.

Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico dieron una gran batalla, y la diferencia fue el mejor bloqueo de Estados Unidos que lideró 13‐6 y en ataques

34‐30. Puerto Rico fue mejor en servicio con 5‐2, y Estados Unidos anotó 29 puntos por errores de los contrarios y cometió 27.

Puerto Rico tuvo una gran oportunidad de quedarse con el primer set, pero el bloqueo de Estados Unidos con Kevin Rakestraw y Benjamín Plaisted los detuvo.

Storm Faagata‐Tufuga lideró a Estados Unidos con 13 puntos, nueve en remates y cuatro bloqueos, Benjamin Plaisted agregó 12, 9 en remates y tres bloqueos. Jon Rivera fue el mejor de Puerto Rico con 13 puntos.

United State achieved Bronze Medal over Puerto Rico

San Salvador, El Salvador, August 3, 2014 – United State won 3‐0 Puerto Rico, 26‐24, 25‐19, 27‐25, and got the Bronze Medal of NORCECA Man’s U21 Continental Championship.

United States and Puerto Rico gave a great battle and the diference was the best block of United State that led 13‐6 and skills 34‐30.

Puerto Rico led aces 5‐2, also United States scored 29 points on Puerto Rico errors while committing 27.

Puerto Rico had the oportunity that won the firts set, but the United States´s bloc was strong with Kevin Rakestraw and Benjamin Plaisted.

Storm Faagata‐Tufuga led Estados Unidos in scoring with 13 points, 9 on kills and 4 blocks. Benjamin Plaisted added 12 points, on 9 attacks and 3 block. Jon Rivera led scorers of Puerto Rico with 13 points.

Cuba gana medalla de oro del NORCECA Sub‐21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Agosto 3, 2014 ‐ Cuba ganó su quinto título en la historia del Campeonato Continental NORCECA de Hombres Sub‐21 con un triunfo 29‐27, 25‐21, 25‐21 sobre Canadá en el Palacio de los Deportes de San Salvador la noche del domingo.

Ambos finalistas estaban asegurados de boletos para el Campeonato Mundial de la

FIVB del año próximo que tendrá lugar en México.

Cuba se adjudicó el título en 2000 y ganó tres ediciones consecutivas del torneo bienal en 2004, 2006 y 2008. El equipo de Estados Unidos, que terminó tercero en esta ocasión, había ganado las dos últimas competiciones.

Osmany Uriarte y Abrahan Alfonso fueron las armas ofensivas superiores de Cuba que produjeron 20 y 15 puntos, respectivamente. Osniel Rendon contribuyó con 10 tantos.

Blake Scheenrhorn lideró a Canadá con 11 puntos, mientras que Ryan Nickifor y Jeffrey Ardon tuvieron 9 y 8 puntos, respectivamente, en la causa perdida.

“Comenzamos con algo de ansiedad, pero logramos superarla, tenía mucha confianza en mis compañeros. Fue una gran final, los dos equipos jugaron bien, Canadá aportó mucho para que la afición disfrutara de un gran partido”, dijo el acomodador de Cuba Ricardo Calvo, nombrado Jugador Mas Valioso del Campeonato.

“Estábamos muy entusiasmado porque era la gran final. Siempre tenemos una gran confianza en nuestros compañeros y eso es la clave”, comentó el máximo anotador de Cuba en el partido con 28 puntos y mejor atacante de esquina, Osmany Uriarte.

Cuba lideró en ataques 48‐30 mientras que Canadá superó en bloqueos de 7‐4. Ambos equipos anotaron tres ases y los ganadores cometieron 29 errores por 24 de los perdedores.

“Jugamos a nuestro ritmo, eso fue lo que nos llevó a la victoria. Fallamos en algunos puntos, sobre todo en el servicio”, agregó el entrenador de Cuba, Pavel Pimienta.

“Debemos crecer más, el próximo año será el Campeonato Mundial que es más fuerte. Hay que mejorar mas cosas, la preparación debe ser muy buena porque algunos de estos chicos juegan en las selecciones mayores”.

Ryan Nickifor, capitán de Canadá: “Jugamos con mucha energía desde el inicio del primer set, pero conforme pasó bajamos el ritmo. Después los dos set siguientes ya no pudimos recuperarnos”.

John Barrett, entrenador de Canada: “Ellos (Cuba) tomaron ventaja de las oportunidades. Al ganar el primer set tomaron confianza, en el segundo set jugamos mejor la segunda parte, pero era demasiado tarde. Vi mucho progreso en el equipo, creo que pueden jugar mucho mejor y vamos a trabajar a un año del Mundial”.

Cuba wins gold medal of NORCECA U21

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 3, 2014 – Cuba won its fifth crown in the history of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship with a 29‐27, 25‐21, 25‐21 victory over Canada at Palacio de los Deportes of San Salvador on Sunday night.

Both finalists were secured of tickets to next year’s FIVB World Championship to take place in Mexico.

Cuba claimed the title in 2000 and the won three consecutive editions of the biennial tournament in

2004, 2006 and 2008. The United States team, which finished third this time, had won the last two competitions.

"We started with some anxiety, but we managed to overcome it, had a lot of confidence in my teammates. It was a great final, both teams played well, Canada contributed a lot to the fans enjoy a great game, "said the usher of Cuba Ricardo Calvo, named MVP of the Championship.

Osmany Uriarte and Abrahan Alfonso were the top offensive weapons of Cuba producing 20 and 15 points, respectively. Osniel Rendon contributed 10 points.

"We were very excited because it was the final. We always have great confidence in our teammates and that's the key, "said Cuba's top scorer in the game with 20 points and best Outsider Hitter Osmany Uriarte.

"We played at our pace, that's what took us to victory. We failed at some points, especially in the service, "said Cuba's coach, Pavel Pimienta.

Blake Scheenrhorn led Canada with 11 points while Ryan Nickifor and Jeffrey Ardon had 9 and 8 points, respectively, in the losing effort.

Cuba led in attacks 48‐30 while Canada topped in blocks 7‐4. Both teams scored three aces and the winners committed 29 errors to 24 by the losers.

Ricardo Calvo el Jugador Más Valioso del NORCECA Sub 21

San Salvador, El Salvador. 3 de agosto del 2014‐ Ricardo Calvo, capitán de Cuba, fue escogido el Jugador Más Valioso del Campeonato Continental NORCECA Sub 21 de varones que finalizó con la coronación de Cuba y el boleto al Mundial de la FIVB para Cuba y Canadá.

Calvo recibió además el premio al Mejor Acomodador del Torneo, ya que sus decisiones guiaron al equipo cubano a la medalla de oro.

También fueron reconocidos en el equipo Todos Estrellas, el Mejor Atacante, de Cuba, Osmany Uriarte y sus compañeros Abrahan Alfonso como Mejor Servicio, Segundo Mejor bloqueo, Luis Sosa.

El Máximo Anotador del torneo fue Samuel Valdez, de El Salvador, quien también ganó el Mejor Atacador Opuesto; como segundo Mejor Atacador el canadiense Brandon Koppers, como mejor bloqueo José Mejía, de El Salvador.

El líbero de Honduras, Juan Napky se quedó con los premios al Mejor Líbero, Mejor Defensa y Mejor Recepción.

Ricardo Calvo named MVP of NORCECA U 21

San Salvador, El Salvador, August 3, 2014– Ricardo Calvo of Cuba was named the Most Valuable Player of the NORCECA Men’s U21 Continental Championship.

Calvo received the award to Best Setter. He was the leader of Cuba for won the gold medal.

Alongside Calvo other Cubans recognized included in the All‐Star Team were the Best Spiker, Osmany Uriarte, Luis Soza was the second Best Blocker, and Abrahan Alfonso the Best Server.

The Best Scorer and Best Opposite of the tournament was Samuel Valdez of El Salvador, and his teammate José Mejía, Best Blocker 1. Brandon Koppers, of Canada, was the Best Blocker 2.

Juan Napky, of Honduras, was the Best Defense, Best Receiver and Best Libero.
