Extreme Jaycee Hippie Bus!
On August 1st and 2nd, Nicole Issert, Jackie Teske, John Varvel, Carol
Cademartori, and I painted a school bus! We painted at the Kankakee
County Fairgrounds for the Extreme School Bus Figure 8 at the
Kankakee County Fair on August 3rd. If you have never seen one of
these events, imagine a demo derby with painted school buses on a
figure 8 track. So intense! We had so much fun painting our bus! Carol
and I supplied the cans of paint and Nicole brought lots of spray paint.
We decorated it as a hippie bus and, personally, I thought our bus was
the most creative and detailed! Although we didn’t win the decorating
contest AND we were the first bus to break down…We had a blast
watching our bus get smashed! We will definitely be doing this project
again next year and we hope to win that decorating trophy! Of course,
winning the whole competition would be AWESOME too…but we don’t
have any control over that…maybe next year we will rig the bus with
millions of good luck charms….like TROLLS! Ooooo…that’s a good idea…

Don’t Wait For A Magic Moment; Start Planning Your Financial Future Now
Provided by Randy T. Outhouse
Why is it that when we are 30 years old, turning 40 seems so far in the future, yet when we turn 50, being 40
seemed like it was just yesterday?
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that when at 50, many of us realize time is slipping away. At this
time in our lives, we tend to look back and think about what we could have or should have done.
It is much the same with planning for our financial futures. So many people have told me that they should have
started saving when they were 25.
There are many reasons why people fail to prepare for their futures. Many people have misconceptions about
how much income it will take to live comfortably in retirement. Also, many people do not realize what it takes
in assets to generate the income they will need to live on during their retirement years.
For most people, it takes about 75 percent of pre-retirement income to maintain a similar standard of living
after retirement. To generate this level of income, as well as keep up with inflation, you need to accumulate
sufficient assets before retirement.
In short, we all need to save for our own futures. And it is far better to begin doing that now, no matter how
little, than to wait for that “magic moment” to get started. Even the best financial plan will not help if you don’t
get started on it.
Time can be a friend or foe. The nice thing is we get to choose. The best advice I can give – get started now.

Wrapping Up Our First Year
August was the first general meeting I had been able to
attend in a few months. It was great to actually be gone and
to come back to lots of fresh, new faces. Everyone is so
energetic and ready to make a change! It’s so great to see!
Throughout our first year as an organization we have
learned a lot! There have been some difficult times for us, but
there have also been some really wonderful times for us. We
have continued to grow and become a stronger organization.
Our people have really started to come out of their so called
shells and take on roles that really suit them. It’s amazing to
see what we accomplished in our first year. I can't wait to see
what we can accomplish in our second year. Please
remember to keep track of what you do in the organization
as certain accomplishments can earn you a new degree in
Passport to Leadership. Thank You to Lucinda LaPierre and
her committee for all their hard work on the birthday party!
Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

Happy Birthday Kankakee Area Jaycees!!!
The Kankakee Area Jaycees have been a chapter for one year! On August 20th, we had a cookout to celebrate the last year and all of our accomplishments. While the storm that swept through the area during the afternoon likely deterred many people from attending the cookout, those of us who
attended were able to make the most of not only the sunshine but the rain as well. Soaked from head to toe Carol, Anne, and Raquel made the most of the rain and went puddle jumping and running through the rain. We warmed up by the grill and managed to dry off a little bit. With the few hours of sunshine we had, we had shared memories and games with some “rooster Jaycees”, Area One Regional Director, Joanne Rinaldo, and National VP, Kathy Crick. I would like to thank all of my committee members-Tonia Zens, Raquel Holody, Nikita Brown, Carol Cademartori and Ayla Connell for all their hard work in planning the cookout. Also, thank you to Lisa and Donnie Winge and Brian and Anita Hebert for coming out to celebrate with us. We had a wonderful time playing games, socializing and cooking out. Thank you to Joanne and Kathy for making the trip out to Kankakee to help us celebrate. You have both been a wonderful support for our chapter over the past year.
