Proven Track Record
We have on some rigs connected 17 times per year and each time used to take around 6 hours. Now it takes a max of 2 hours, and the system has given us a saving of 3 rig days pr rig pr year. Bob Anderson - Stena Drilling
The ROPS is a revolutionary
step compared to the manual
system!

Our workers feel more
secure doing the operation
The ROPS system is a quantum leap in the right direction in terms of efficiency and safety Reduces the
risk of something
going wrong
REDUCE MAN RIDING HOURSSafety is increased by avoidingman riding in the moonpool
Reduce risk of injury in operation through eliminating a risk factor
Improved safetyREDUCE UNDERLOAD HOURSSafety is increased by avoid working under load
FULFIL POSSIBLEFUTURE REQUIREMENTPetroleum Safety Authority of Norway has issueda report recommending the reduced use of man riding and working under load
New rigs specified by Statoil includes the ROPSsystem

The mud collector bucket is mounted onto
the packer housing on the T-joint. The mud
collector bucket has a low and high fluid
level sensors. A filter covers the bucket to
prevent solids falling into the bucket.
The air pump is designed to constantly
circulate the fluid and has a capacity of
approximately 15 cubic meters pr hour. This
constant circulation ensures good lubrication
of the packers and reduced risk of packer
failure.
The telescopic joint modification depends
on the telescopic joint type but all designs
ensure normal operation and that the
telescopic joint fits through the rotary.

MODIFICATION
The mud collector skid unit is located on
the cellar deck. The unit contains the mud
spill protection monitor, the fluid tank,
circulation pump and an optional packer
monitoring system.
If a packer fails, the system is
designed to alert the drilling
control room, energize the back-
up packer, collect the mud and
discharge the contents into rig
waste.
