All FDR Products Now Support “Extended Address Volumes” (EAV)

z/OS 1.10 IBM introduces volumes that are larger than 54GB's. These volumes called extended address

volume (EAV) are 100’s of GB in size. The z/OS 1.10 size is limited to 223 GB. Use of EAV volumes is

transparently supported by all FDR products V5.4/70 and above…available 1Q 2009.

Overview – EAV Key Design Points

• Maintains 3390 track format cylinder-managed space Cylinders> 65,520 track-managed space Cylinders <= 65,520

• Track-managed space: the area on an EAV located within the first 65,520 cylinders intended as

storage for “small”data sets

• Comparable to the same space on non-EAVs

• Space is allocated in track or cylinder increments

• Cylinder-managed space: the area on an EAV located above the first 65,520 cylinders intended as storage for “large”data sets

• Space is allocated in multicylinder units (MCU).

• A fixed unit of disk space that is larger than a cylinder.

• System may round space requests up to a multiple of an MCU (i.e. 315 tracks)

• Currently, on an EAV, the MCU is 21 cylinders

• BreakPointValue (BPV) directs placement of EAS-eligible data sets on EAV a value in cylinders

• Cylinder-managed space is preferred if requested space >= BPV

• Track-managed space is preferred if requested space < BPV

• Specified in SMS parmlib and storage group definitions with a value of 0-65520 cyl

• Storage group BPV overrides system-level BPV - Defaults to 10 cylinders if not specified in either

• New Format DSCBs

• Format 8 DSCB – equivalent to a format 1 DSCB. Contains a chain pointer to a format 9 DSCB

• Format 9 DSCB – Provides attribute data and a list of pointers to each possible format 3 DSCB.

• Additional IBM maintenance to look for

• EAV, (PK77307) - ICKDSF BUILDIX IXVTOC(PK77307)

ALL FDR PRODUCTS SUPPORT…HyperPAV and HyperSWAP

FDRPAS ensures a volume’s HyperPAV access and HyperSwap protected status throughout the duration of the data copy phase of a volume migration, transparently deactivating it only momentarily for the actual SWAP.

HyperPAV, (APAR OA26237 - OA27065)

Install the feature and turn it on: z/OS and the DS8000 handle the rest.

Evolution…of multiple parallel access to 3390 volumes

Static PAVs. You must know hot devices in advance and decide where to assign PAVs

Dynamic PAV. WLM decides where to assign PAVs for the next WLM interval…10 min and that PAV configuration is fixed in concrete (static) until the end of that WLM-I.

HyperPAV. IOS decides on an I/O by I/O basis if a PAV is needed for the next I/O, finds one in a pool of available PAV UCBs and directs the new I/O to a PAV UCB

HyperSWAP/HyperSWAP Basic (APAR OA27065, OA26509)

Customers depend on HyperSwap to automate and enhance the value of remote data protection.

ALL FDR PRODUCTS now SUPPORT…520 MB/sec zHPF

zHPF is a System z architecture and FICON channel architecture performance enhancement implemented exclusively in System z10 to

streamline the execution of small block IO. Supporting only disk access FCX channel programs will not be interpreted by the channel but will be

transferred directly to the storage controller. An option available on all current IBM zSeries disk systems, FICON Express4 and FICON Express2 channels support both the existing FICON architecture and the

zHPF architecture. FCX will only be used by Media Manager initially. A device must be designated FXC capable to use this channel access

protocol, but can be accessed concurrently by both standard format CCWs and by FCX.

Support will be in z/OS 1.10 and extended by PTF back to z/OS 1.7.

Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V™ and VM are now certified with the

latest generation IBM System z10 Enterprise Class server and with IBM’s zHPF enhancements to the System z.

FDRInstant supports the use of all three types of hardware replication that can virtualize backup. Your storage subsystems may be licensed for any or all of these technologies, which have different names and sometimes significant differences in implementation depending on your hardware vendor of choice.

“Mirroring Replication” EMC TF/Mirror, HDS ShadowImage, IBM Persistent FC (FV)

• “Splits” a persistent mirror to create a PIT in copy for backup

• Consistent option (Keeps two point-in-time relationships between the volumes)

“On Demand” EMC TF/Clone, EMC/HDS/IBM FlashCopy (FV / DS)

FCOPY TYPE=FDR… establishes a FC session to any standard volume default NOCOPY

FCOPY=INCR – persistent session copies updates in real time and allows FRR

DUMP TYPE=FDR… FCOPY=(USE) determines FC session state

“Incremental” – retains the “persistent incremental” session and allows FRR

Terminate – stop the FC session.

SNAP TYPE=FDR… establishes a CLONE/SNAP session to any standard volume

DUMP TYPE=FDR… SNAP=(USE,…) determines SNAP session state

• Pre-copy – persistent session copies updates in real time

• Differential – persistent session marks updates to only copy at next SNAP

• Terminate – stops the Snap session.

“On Demand” Dataset Copy

Dynamically selects TF/Clone Data Set EMC Snap Operations (DS) or FlashCopy (DS)

• Copy multiple data sets in parallel (MAXTASKS=n)

Licensing the INNOVATION FDRInstantBACKUP product, FDRInstant for

short, enables FDR and FDRABR with “Instant” functionality; a simple

common interface to the appropriate hardware data replication function no

matter what mix of hardware vendor’s storage systems you may have in your

site. ABRInstant, for example, automating the use of hardware data replication

is the most advanced non-disruptive business data protection and business

continuance solution available today for any z/OS mainframe storage system.

FDR and FDRABR backup and restore processing, as well as FDRCOPY data

set copy and move at FDR V5.4 L60 and above now contain allocation,

catalog and disk VTOC processing performance improvements. The

introduction of more efficient CCW chains to access VTOC data, reduces I/O

processing time. Multiple reads of the input volume’s VTOC for backup and

output volume for restores are gone. Employing an IBM service to identify the

end of active data in a VTOC, FDR now reads only as much of the VTOC as

necessary. This significantly reduces VTOC read time especially for customers

allocating larger VTOC sizes to accommodate today's larger devices.

Although these improvements apply to all FDR and FDRABR backups and

restores, the improvement is most noticeable in FDRInstant data set

FDRCOPY. When instant replication techniques, such as SNAP and

FlashCopy, are used to copy the data, allocation, catalog and disk VTOC

processing is a significant portion of the total elapsed time and that is exactly

where these changes provide significant benefit.

Page 12: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

An Instant Technology Backup is two simple steps…

JOB STEP 1: begins with an Instant command (“SPLIT/SNAP/FCOPY”)

to create the point-in-time (PIT) backup of the online source volume on

an offline volume and then resets the VTOC update flags on the online source

volume.

Securing a source volume and datasets from updates during the few moments

it takes for the point-in-time technology to complete, prevents a fuzzy backup

(insures logical consistency). Recording the location of the offline PIT copy,

marks the Instant Technology Backup as complete. DSNENQ=USE overrides

the default which is not to issue point-in-time copy commands if a dataset is in

use and ENQERR=NO overrides the normal error message.

An Instant Technology Backup is complete when the point-in-time copy step

ends. Normal business processing can resume and rapid restores are

available from the PIT backup volume.

JOB STEP 2: performs a non-disruptive tape backup. “SPLIT/SNAP/

FCOPY=USE” tells ABRInstant to query the storage system and determine if

an InstantBackup exists for any of the volumes. There is no need to identify

anything extra. COPY1=COPY2, instructs ABR to create one tape backup and

retain the PIT InstantBackup for Rapid Restore.

An InstantBackup (PIT volume) by default is protected against being

accidentally mounted, i.e. brought online by “altering” the PIT disk label. A

utility to bring the copy online is available but is not necessary for the PIT copy

to be used in a Rapid Restore.

Virtualize storage to simplify and increase efficiency

IBM FlashCopy Space Efficient capability (FC/SE) and EMC

TimeFinder SNAP (TF/SNAP) can lower costs by significantly

reducing the disk capacity needed for copies.

• No need to allocate target copy capacity to match full source

• Uses space to only save updated source data

• Thinly provisioned target copies reduce capacity needs

The use of SPACE EFFICIENT volumes as a FlashCopy or TF/SNAP

target is transparently supported by FDRINSTANT V5.4/62 and above.

FDRINSTANT will automatically detect a SPACE EFFICIENT

FLASHUNIT designation and appropriately establish the FlashCopy

relationship.

EMC TimeFinder/SNAP is a similar space efficient/virtual technology

solution.

Additional IBM maintenance to look for:

Extent level FC (OA26682)

HyperPAV interaction (OA26237)

Increase workload IBM code fix in 64.1.16.0 (R4.1) andR3 remap

Page 14: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

Thinly Provisioned (Virtualized Storage)

Suggested Use

• When a backup on tape or a full remote copy is the primary means

of data protection

• Short-term copies – FlashCopy/SNAP

relationships that last less than 24 hours for qualification and consistency testing or copies for

Data Mining

• Copies of data with a small amount of

update activity <20% during time they are active

• When economy will not put the

business at risk

Fully Provisioned (Traditional)

Suggested Use

• When a full physical copy of data on disk is needed (for example

to protect against hardware failures or to use as a production

or long-term test copy)

• Longer-term copies –FlashCopy/SNAP relationships that last

more than 24 hours

• Copies for source data that will

be updated significantly >20% updates

• Whenever performance is more

important than economy

It’s obvious customers that buy new disk systems want to migrate their data to new systems…but

Why do customers want to consolidate?

Customers want to “Simplify Management”:

• Fewer z/OS volumes – fewer multi-volume datasets

• Simpler hardware config… reduce "HDAs" from a hundred 3390-3 volumes to < 10,

• Reduce “Raid Groups” from thousand of volumes

• Overcome “Architectural Constrains IBM is …promoting larger volumes…9, 27, 54, EAV Use larger volumes…before hitting architectural constrains

Software limitation on the number of UCB’s in z/OS (64K). Replication can cut that in half…

The capacity of physical HDDs is increasing, (e.g. 350GB, 750GB, 1TB) to the point where the number of physical HDD volumes in a

storage system will contain more disk capacity than the operating system can address, unless z/OS volumes increase in size...

Page 16: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

Your companies are under pressure…

Facing an overwhelming explosive data growth customers must upgrade to faster, higher capacity more reliable and ultimately less

expensive disk storage while maintaining 24 x 7 data availability.

Management wants a solution that will allow them to reap the benefits

of consolidating storage, servers and bringing up new applications with peace of mind; knowing these systems will have access to faster, higher

capacity more reliable and ultimately less expensive disk storage while maintaining 24 x 7 data availability.

You have a solution…to begin using newer, faster, lower cost and more reliable z/OS™ disk storage systems sooner without any interruption to ongoing business while consolidating to a lesser number

of volumes with minimal business disruption...any time.

You can offer these benefits sooner and without disruption…because

with FDRPAS and FDRMOVE you can non-disruptively install the new storage and consolidate volumes with little to no impact on their

applications, at anytime.

Page 17: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

What is FDRMOVE with FDRPAS?

FDRMOVE is data set oriented volume consolidation providing file level migration to

complement FDRPAS non-disruptive volume level migration solution.

FDRMOVE dramatically reduces or eliminates downtime during storage consolidation for

load balancing, upgrades, storage platform changes, and simplification initiatives with

real time data set relocation.

The design aim of FDRMOVE with FDRPAS is to provide a single, extremely fast, easy

to use, automation solution for non-disruptive volume migration and minimally-disruptive

real time data set relocation for volume consolidation that will address all manner of

customer data.

The function of FDRMOVE quite simply is to migrate datasets independent of volume

size to support customer storage consolidation and simplification initiatives; i.e. moving

data from small volumes to larger ones, for volume count reduction and UCB constraint

relief, as well for load balancing.

The customers benefit…“Anytime Empowerment”

Consolidate volumes, at anytime, with little to no impact on applications.

Increase capacity, decrease cost, increase performance, decrease footprints and

consolidate volumes sooner and without disruption, because FDRMOVE with FDRPAS

lets you can do it with little to no impact on business applications.

Fast, Safe, Simple and Secure, users are unaware that FDRMOVE is consolidating

volumes or FDRPAS™ is swapping volumes to the new storage.

Banking customer reports…Used FDRMOVE to consolidate 1500 data sets resident on

twenty-two (22) 3390-3 volumes to eight (8) 3390-9 volumes in just minutes…

Here again mileage will vary and we’ll discuss performance as we describe FDRMOVE

in more detail.

What is FDRPAS?

FDRPAS™ (FDR Plug and Swap) is a Business Resiliency solution supporting

continuous 24 x 7 x 365 accessibility, by non-disruptively moving volumes to

and from z/OS disks to consolidate storage capacity on new hardware of the

same volume size or larger on the fly, while business operations continue non-

stop. FDRPAS™ capabilities include the ability to employ channel extenders to

move data centers, combine data centers and split data centers.

Customer benefits…New storage is available for use sooner

Fast, Safe and Secure – FDRPAS™ maintains data integrity…

SWAP in new, faster disk storage, during normal business hours with no

disruption to business operations.

FDRPAS increases end-user productivity…unaffected users see only the

benefits of technology upgrades…

Recently a customer non-disruptively moved 1.8 Terabytes (600 volumes) to a

new storage system in one hour, swapping up to 20 volumes concurrently, with

no impact on normal operations.

Another customer who chose a light weekend to install new equipment writes

“Completed copying 30TB of old storage in under 2 hours 40 minutes. With

FDRPAS running on just 2 LPARs (Note: Allocated space was only 19 TBs for

about 7TB/hr.)

And another “We migrated 1,000 volumes (43/mod 1's, 32/mod 3‘s and 784/

mod 9's”) for about 7.3TB in 7 1/2 hrs. (about 1TB/hr.)

Mileage may vary but usually expect a rate of about 1.6 TB/hour.

FDRMOVE Key Strengths

Speed Identify data sets that are inactive and move them in an instant..., When

hardware replication technology is available, move 250 data sets, occupying up to 1Terabyte of data across 16 volumes, in about 1 minute. Allocating, cataloging and moving over 1000 small data sets per

minute, with two concurrent jobs across 16 volumes. Concurrently moving multiple 3390-3’s in minutes with high

performance EXCP IO when hardware replication is not available.

Reliability

FDRMOVE automates the intelligent use of, builds on and extends the same reliable proven technology found in FDRCOPY, FDRPAS and FDRINSTANT to address all manner of data sets.

All files naturally go inactive at some point in time. Just not all at a convenient time. FDRMOVE allows applications to continue unaffected

as it non-disruptively swaps active dataset source volumes to the target storage system, so operations can “bounce” e.g. stop and restart,

applications to momentarily take them down and free datasets that do not naturally go inactive on a convenient schedule.

Page 20: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

How does FDRMOVE™ Work?

Monitoring the use of data sets to identify those that are inactive

Automatically migrates data sets the instant they become inactive:

Single and multi-volume VSAM, DB2, IMS, ADABAS and non-VSAM datasets on SMS and non-SMS volumes to designated new volumes…

Pre-positioning source volumes in the same storage system as the new target...to take advantage of INSTANT I/O…

• Allocating data sets to new volumes

• Copying data with INSTANT or conventional I/O

• Recataloging data sets to the new volumes

Continues scanning for more data sets to become naturally inactive…

FDRMOVE has three simple commands (Functions)

SIMMOVE – identify special consideration files and validate set up

MOVE – high speed IO moves inactive files without impacting applications

FASTMOVE – intelligently combines the proven technologies of system SWAP (non-disruptive volume migration) and hardware data replication (instant data set copy)

FDRMOVE views disk volumes as either:

Source – old volumes containing datasets to be moved

Target – new disk volumes where datasets are to reside

Transit – empty volumes in same storage system as Target volumes, FASTMOVE uses for staging

Page 22: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

SIMMOVE is an FDRMOVE command/function that using “Simulation”:

• Aids planning

• Validates control statements

• Identifies special case datasets (i.e. catalog, active RACF…)

• Displays all the volumes to be processed

• Identifies all selected data sets

• Shows currently active data sets and the jobs using them

Page 23: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

FDRMOVE with FDRPAS Summary

z/OS RealTime mainframe data migration providing file level granularity to complement FDRPAS non-disruptive volume level migration.

FDRMOVE automates the intelligent use of, and builds on, our proven reliable volume swap, dataset copy and instant hardware data

replication technology to move datasets.

Datasets can be selected by SMS Storage Group, volume or through

the catalog...to go to a specific Storage Group, volume or groups of volumes...

FDRMOVE with FDRPAS…

• identifies and moves data sets that are inactive.

• automates employing FDRPAS to insure a source volume(s) is in the same storage system as the new target...(transit station).

• intelligently determines when data sets become inactive (not open/not allocated) to use FDRInstant hardware replication to move the

data and recatalogs the dataset in an instant.

Using FDRPAS Start Consolidation with a SWAP

Use FDRPAS to move system and special data sets to a target non-disruptively swapping the volumes to Target volumes of equal or larger

size that the source volume.

Optionally, use FDRPAS to move smaller capacity source volumes to

the larger capacity target disks and then use FDRMOVE to add data sets from other volumes to fill up the free space on the larger disk.

Ensure the VTOC on the source volumes moved with FDRPAS is large enough to accommodate the higher number of additional data sets that

will eventually reside on the larger volume.

Page 25: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

FDRMOVE…Includes FDRPAS

Use FDRPAS to non-disruptively move the system volumes and those volumes with special datasets e.g. Catalogs, active RACF control data

set, Spool Volumes, etc, or optionally to move the first smaller capacity source volume to the larger capacity target…

When FDRPAS completes the SWAP the Source Volume is online in the new storage system and there is no disruption to the active

applications.

A copy of the Source remains offline in the old storage system, specially

marked to prevent it from accidentally coming online.

Then use FDRMOVE to add data sets from other source volumes to fill

up the free space on the larger disk.

Page 26: 09031 SHAREAustin09 3068v5 - Innovation Data Processing · INNOVATION works closely with EMC, Hitachi, IBM, SUN/STK and other storage technology vendors to insure data protection,

Is the VTOC too small?

Ensure the VTOC on the source volumes moved with FDRPAS is large enough

to accommodate the higher number of additional data sets that will eventually

reside on the larger volume. Use FDRPAS to expand the VTOC of a target as

necessary.

The BUILDIX function of ICKDSF is disruptive requiring shared DASD be put

offline to all systems but one.

FDRPAS includes EXPANDVTOC and SWAPBUILDIX useful utilities,

that employing the co-ordination techniques of FDRPAS™, allows you

to non-disruptively expand the size of the VTOC and rebuild a damaged

or missing VTOC Index while the volume remains in use on all systems.

3390-9 use a VTOC of 150 trks (accommodates about 7,000 data sets)

3390-27 use a VTOC of 450 trks (accommodates about 20,000 data sets)

3390-54 use a VTOC of 900 trks (accommodates about 40,000 data sets)

See the FDRMOVE Manual for notes on VTOC sizes and expanding VTOCs.

What does MOVE do?

Scans data sets identifying those that are inactive

Automatically migrates all inactive data sets to the new volume:

• Single and multi-volume DB2, VSAM and non-VSAM datasets from SMS and non-SMS volumes

• Allocates data sets to new volumes

• Copies data with high performance EXCP I/O

Convert, consolidate, stack and migrate tape resident data files when upgrading, consolidating or repurposing tape systems.

Easiest and most reliable utility available to load, unload, reload,

recatalog and update CA-1 and IBM DF/RMM tape management systems for tape migrations from conventional as well as hardware and

software based virtual tape library systems.

Protect data on tape leaving your control for disposal, FATS/ERASE for

z/OS a secure erase tape utility…is the easiest and most reliable utility available for secure erasure of tape media.

Used by Professional Services for VTL migrations (e.g. NY Life, Huntington Bank, US Bank, Kroger).

You can use FATSCOPY to easily convert your current tape library or VTS to new high capacity tape, a new VTS or to a new manufacturer’s VTS.

Copy a Tape:

Make an exact image copy or logical copy of an input tape, allowing you to

rename, reblock, and selectively copy files from the input tape.

Tape Media Conversions:

…i.e. 3480s/3490s to 3590s to IBM TS1130 /TS1120, Sun T10000B, EMC

DLm or Bus-Tech MDL.

Map a Tape:

Verify the characteristics of a tape, what files are on tape, how many, names,

DCB characteristics, blocksizes, creation and expiration dates, compression

statistics and more…

Erase Tapes:

Erase all data on a tape prior to discarding or repurposing.

Recover damaged and overwritten tape:

Extensive error recovery allows you to read (and copy) tapes that have had

tape errors, avoiding significant rerun time.

Certify Tapes:

Insure that new and existing tapes do not have errors that would cause

costly reruns.

Verification:

Legacy/Historical/Archive Tape.

Integrated Tape Management Support:

FATSCOPY supports CA-1 and IBM’s RMM tape management systems for

tape copying/stacking and migration.

You can specify the data sets by:

• data set name prefixes or masks

• tape volume serial prefixes or ranges

• catalog tape device type (3480, 3490E or 3590)

Then additionally filter the data sets to be copied based on:

• creation date

• expiration date

• creating job name

• data set size last used program

• creating program

FATSCOPY can also be directed to copy entire tape volumes by volser regardless of whether they are cataloged or not.

ALLDSN in conjunction with:

EXPDTGROUP (NO) is a one for one media migration… i.e.…one VTS to another VTS (same capacity volumes)…

EXPDTGROUP (YES) is to consolidate or stack volumes… i.e….copy multiple lesser capacity volumes to higher capacity volumes,

i.e. 3490 to TS1130…

MULTIVOL…selecting a volume containing a multivolume file will result in

all of the other volumes containing that dataset to also be selected.

OPCAP…will provide the number of output tapes of the specified capacity

required to hold the copied or migrated volumes and is used in conjunction with Simulation.

Selection by Catalog

EXPTDTGROUP = creates groups of qualifying individual datasets expiring with in x days of one another.

MULTIFILE = (NO) prevents the copying of a datasets if the input volume contains more than a single file.

OFFSITE = (NO) will not call for any tape volume identified by a tape management system as being “off site”.

VIRTUNIT = FATSCOPY will only copy files from volumes identified by a tape management system as a standard tape device. This parameter

allows the specification of an esoteric name of a device used to create the volume a specified datasets resides on when it is not a standard

tape.

RENAME = allows a change to all index qualifiers except the last.

ADDX = extend the scratch date used in conjunction with TMSINPUT.

UNITIN = in conjunction with ALLDSN specifies a specific unit on which to

mount input volumes. The default is the last tape device used as recorded by the tape management system.

CAT = catalog the output after verifying input dataset name, VOLSER and file seq number.

RECAT = catalog out put datasets without verification.

LASTAPE = a dataset name cataloged to identify the last volume written.

LASTFILE = min num of MB (1000=1 GB) to be copied before a multivolume dataset is allowed. If a copy writes less prior to EOV the

dataset is recopied in its entirety to a new output volume.

LASTMULT= works in conjunction w/LASTAPE to allow multivolume files.

MAXBLK works in conjunction w/REBLOCK.

THRESHOLD = set max capacity of volume in conjunction w/LASTAPE.

Simulate

Produces detailed reports showing data sets selected for copying and those bypassed. For all the data sets that met the selection criteria,

FATSCOPY produces a report showing how the data sets will be grouped on the output volumes, the expiration that will be assigned to the outputs, the number of compressed and uncompressed output

tapes needed, and a list showing the input tapes required.

OPCAP = will provide the number of output tapes of the specified

capacity required to hold the copied or migrated volumes.
