GROWING IN GRACE & GRATITUDE SUNDAY MORNINGS THIS FALL AT FIRST!
All children, youth and adults are invited to be part of a small group each Sunday morning from 9-10. The Discipleship Committee is grateful for the men and women who will serve as our 2019-20 team of Sunday School teachers. We are also grateful for the high percentage of learners in this community of faith. Our children (up to 5th graders) will be using the PCUSA curriculum, “Growing in Grace & Gratitude”. Our youth (6th-12th graders) will be asking more hard questions about God and Faith using the “Can I Ask That 2” curriculum. Additional class information may be found in related articles. FREE SHREDDING at the FALL CRAFT BAZAARSaturday, October 12
Do you have piles of paper tucked away in your closets, cabinets and garage? Perhaps you have old check books, bank statements, and documents that have personal information that you simply don’t want to trash or recycle, for fear of identity theft. If so, we have good news for you!
On Saturday morning, October 12, a truck from our friends at A-1 Shredding will be back at FPC to shred (then recycle) papers for the congregation as well as the community. Simply pull your car/truck through the front drive and volunteers will unload your boxes and bags straight into the can that will be lifted up and shredded.
Please limit this to papers only...not plastic, glass or metal (staples are okay.) Let’s clean out our homes and garages through this safe, secure and confidential ministry, and invite your neighbors to feel lighter and more liberated, too!
FALL CRAFT BAZAAR will be held on Saturday, October 12th at FPC Pasadena. Bring your friends and neighbors and join us for a day of fun and holiday shopping, while supporting FPC ministries. There will be a variety of craft vendors, free shredding, MD Anderson Blood Drive, BBQ plates for sale, a craft zone for kids, face painting, raffle and more. Volunteers will be needed before, during and after the bazaar. Watch for sign-up sheets in the Narthex. For more information, contact Donna Gilchrest at 281 830-3176 or [email protected].
READING BIBLICAL LITERATURE Pat Abrams, Bride’s Room at 9:00 am
Our class is currently studying the Gospel of Luke with “Luke for Everyone” by N. T. Wright. To study the Bible from a literary perspective is definitely different, and adds greatly to understanding and applying God’s Word to our everyday lives. Come join us as we ‘Step Out in Faith” as Jesus would lead.

SAVE YOUR ‘THESE DAYS MAGAZINES!
Please return your gently used ‘These Days’ to the collection area in the narthex. Imelda Carrillo will deliver them to the Pasadena City Jail.
The last Kairos event was August 8-10. You produced 150 dozen cookies, money, 42 letters, prayer chain, cookie bags, and place mats. You are a blessing to many men that were totally lost and now they have Jesus Christ to ponder. This is a wonderful thing to do for your neighbor. Now we begin to prepare for the October event. If you are not moving, you get nowhere; let's follow Jesus as He makes his way through us. C.L., Mark Corder
Men’s Bible StudyThe Men’s Bible group is studying the book of Genesis. They meet on Thursday night from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. in the Library under the leadership of Mark Corder.

Building Rental Courtesies and Guidelines: As a ministry to our community and an addition to our budget, the church building is rented quite often. Each guest pays a deposit and a fee for the use of the building. During these scheduled rentals, the rented space is not available for use by church members. Please find another entrance as respect for our guests, and for the safety of our guests and our members. Signs will be posted on doors when rooms are rented. Thank you!
“Habitat for Humanity Pasadena has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people.” from the Habitat for Humanity Pasadena website…

WEDNESDAY NOON BROWN BAG BIBLE STUDY SERIES
WILL TAKE A SUMMER BREAK.WATCH THE “FRIDGE NOTES”
FOR UPDATES.
Young at Heart gathered early (10:00) on third Thursday, August 15, 2019 in the Fellowship
Hall. We were so happy to see Sandy B. and Teri M. again. We heard by the grapevine that Jamie
and Heather are enjoying the mountains of Arkansas. Hurry back everyone. You were missed. The devotional reminded us to be grateful for what we have. Marvin, Ruth, and Claudio all had birthdays
for which we are all grateful!
Nell brought a little monkey friend who rolled over and made us laugh.
I also brought a little furry friend who everyone agreed is pretty and friendly…and while she enjoyed the company…mom was a little stressed. She was pretty good for a puppy Poppy ‘dell!
Then it was game time as Elois and Jean rushed to get the end seats (winning position). Sue and Ann ended up in the middle and Marvin and Kay at the other (not the winning) end!! Fortunately, we are
not a hardcore group and just enjoy the game and company.
The Chickenfoot players were a lively group. Since they were in a circle…there was no “winning”
position. But they played past time to quit….so they must have had fun. Maybe Nell brought her little laughing monkey friend out again. I did hear a lot of laughing going on, but I think it was our
YAH friends!
Next third Thursday, Sept. 19th, we will do it all over again. Make sure you are here at 10 with your
favorite dish. Don’t be late or the fun might start without you.
(No the monkey wasn’t real)
Hugs, Joan

FPC CLUSTER SHEPHERD GROUPS 2019The FPC Cluster shepherd groups are linked together so members will find themselves in only one group. The emphasis is on the group itself, with two caring and connecting church officers as support.
The Deacon and Elders each have distinct roles, but the officers will work in harmony as co-shepherds to care for and help build relationships within the group. Simply put, the primary call of a Deacon is one of pastoral care, while the Elder’s primary call is to govern and communicate current happenings in the life of the church, including deaths. Of course, both Deacons and Elders are called to stay in touch with their flock, connecting and encourag-ing those entrusted to their care, so there will be some overlap. As Christians, we are all called to be the pres-ence of Christ for one another. Our hope is that there will be connections made within the flock, so that members within each cluster shepherd group will also know and support one another.
The co-shepherds are from the same class. That way they will serve as partners for their entire term of service. This helps with consistency and in group building.
The possibilities of this simplified partnership brings a new dimension to the hymn, “Called as Partners in Christ’s Service.”
Below are the cluster partners, reflecting the new officer shepherds. A bulletin board in the hallway visually re-flects the arrangement.
