STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: All classes of sheep traded mostly steady on comparable trades. Slaughter kids traded 2.00 – 5.00 higher on a thin test. Slaughter nannies traded 5.00 – 10.00 higher. Slaughter billies mostly steady. Trade activity was moderate on moderate buyer demand. In the sheep supply 40% slaughter lambs and 50% feeder lambs, 10% slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of 60% slaughter kids, 30% slaughter nannies, 10% slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, August 20, 2014Nearly 275 head of slaughter cattle were sold today, with the market lower on all classes of cattle, averaging anywhere from $3-8 lower across the board. The demand for lean slaughter cattle was relatively strong in comparison to fat slaughter cattle. Lean beef cows ranged $113.50-130.50. Fat beef cows ranged $116.00-127.00. Lean Holstein slaughter cows ranged $106.00-115.50, with fat Holsteins ranging $109.00-118.50. Holstein slaughter cow prices are also reflective of condition, which on average is not where it was a month ago. Though lower than the last few weeks, bulls still had a very respectable showing ranging $129.50-144.00. A nice set of medium framed lean Holstein bulls out of Gill averaged 1500# at $132.50, and a load of lean colored cows from Delta sold well.
