PASTORS CORNER 5/25/08Today is the feast of Corpus Christi - thefeast of the Body and Blood of Christ. It isa day we celebrate the memorial of ourredemption. The Eucharist which we
celebrate is also a memorial instituted byJesus. It draws attention to his life, hisdeath and his resurrection. The Eucharistdraws attention to issues that have notgone and do not go away. These are theissues of sacrifice, service & love.
Each of our readings for today are alsoabout a memorial meal In our firstreading, Moses reminded the people ofGod's saving goodness, shown to them over
years by his giving them manna each day.Remembering is important because it keptthe committed saving presence of God alivefor the people. Similarly in our secondreading Paul emphasized the importanceof the Eucharist as an intimate sharing inthe bread of life. It is a memorial whichmakes Christ present and takes themeaning of commitment to a new level.
In our Gospel Jesus drew on God
providing for his chosen people in thedesert and took it much further. He nowfeeds them with his own flesh. It reflectsthe dynamics of redemption. For in it wehave Jesus sacrifice, his self-giving, hisoffering of his very life so that we mightlive. It is a living memorial which draws onthe past, takes place in the present, andpromises the future. In Christ, Mary & St. Elizabeth Ann Seton,

SUMMARYOF CATHOLIC FAITH - #38
Today we continue the topic of Prayer with the subject ofhow to receive the sacrament of Penance. There are three
forms and the most common is Private Confession. The
penitent should prepare to receive it with a careful
examination of conscience, recalling the Commandments, the Precepts of the Church and the duties of the
penitents state of life. Silent reflection should be
accompanied by prayer especially to the Holy Spirit. One
should recall an regret all the of the sins committed sincethe last confession and mentally express genuine sorrow
for them and then enter the confessional. After beingwelcomed by the Priest the penitent makes the sign of
the cross saying: In the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The priest may read
a scripture passage. The penitent next states the time
since the last confession and always confesses all mortal
sins recalled by number and kind. (If no mortal sins, so
state and then confess any venial sins committed butonly by kind and not be number.) After the sins areconfessed, the priest sometimes counsels the penitent and
always asks the penitent to do a penance - prayers or a
charitable work. The penitent expresses sorrow for sin in
own words or by saying an act of contrition or by saying
a short psalm of sorrow. The priest then gives absolution
and the penitent replies: Amen. The priest then says:
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. Penitent
replies: His mercy endures forever. The penitent thendismissed and does the penance.
At times there is communal confession. For this the
people gather in Church at an appointed time and prepare
for the sacrament as a group and partake in community
prayer. The penitents approach one of the priests
available and confesses his or her sins including all
mortal sins and any other he or she wishes to confess aswas outlined for Private Confession. After all have
received the sacrament, the people again pray and singtogether in thanksgiving.
The third form is General Absolution. It is used only in
emergencies. The priest absolves everyone Each person
receiving general absolution must confess allmortal sins
individually to a priest at the next available opportunity. .

Do make the effort to come if possible. It is an excellent opportunity to get to know your fellowparishioners. Those who attended last year know that a good time was had by all.
I also want to remind you that next Saturday, May 31st following the vigil mass we will have areception in Seton Hall for Deacon Joe Niland. Deacon Joe will be retiring on June 4th. That day is aspecial day for him for on that day he was ordained a deacon.
Deacon Joe has been faithfully serving the parish these past 19 years. Not only has he assistedregularly at Sunday masses but thrice weekly he has as well. Deacon Joe also assisted at funeralmasses and vigil services. He performed baptisms and did the Pre-Jordan classes. Up until recently healso trained the altar servers. Deacon Joe was also ex officio a member of the pastoral council. Ipersonally am very grateful for his assistance these past 8 years.

EVANGELIZATION OUTREACH
8/14/2019 080 - MAY 25 - 2008
5/5
A parish is a community of faith. We Catholics have a unique treasure in the Eucharist, the Body and Blood
of Christ which we celebrate in a special way today. Belief in the reality of the presence of God under the
appearances of bread and wine sets us apart from almost every other Christian denomination. We gather at
the banquet table of the Lord.
So what does this belief mean in our day to day relationships? How sacred do we hold this treasure? We
sing, "We remember how you loved us to your death and still we celebrate for you are with us here and we
believe that we will see you when you come in your glory Lord, We remember, we celebrate, we believe."
These words sum up what we must do in our often silent evangelization effort. We know the power of love.We are often more touched by a smile, a gesture or a look than by a word. If you hope to reach out to othersand bring them to the great banquet of love which Jesus has promised, be yourself the quiet, welcoming
maitre d'.
As you enter this sacred place, remember, genuflect profoundly acknowledging the Presence of God. Bedressed appropriately for the celebration. Look around. Smile. Celebrate. Sit up front and in the center ofthe pew so that others will be comfortable enough to join you. After Mass, talk to those around you on the
way to your car and be courteous in the parking lot.
During the week, believe, comment on the readings and remember what touched or lifted you up in thehomily. Engage others with the statement, "I believe that we will see Jesus when He comes again in his
glory." O yes, expect a reaction. Don't be defensive. You have a right to your belief. It is after all what anyChristian believes who takes the Lord at his word.
I wish to thank all who have contributed so generously so that I can continue to share faith with you. Our
beloved Lord will bless; you are in my prayers. Contact me [email protected]
