Academic Rules and RegulationsStudents admitted to HIMS must abide by all academicand administrative rules, as approved or modified byHU/HIMS from time to time. All admissions areprovisional and HIMS reserves the right to canceladmission of any student for indiscipline, violating rules,providing false information, manipulating thedocuments, or for any other reason. The students arerequired to adhere to the code of ethics and conduct forHIMS students.

EnrollmentThe students will be considered on the rolls of theUniversity after due enrollment. Duly filled in enrollmentform along with necessary documents must besubmitted in the office of the Deputy Registrar(Academics), through HIMS Office, within six weeksfrom the date of admission in any program at HIMS. Astudent who fails to do so will be liable to cancellation ofadmission without any refund of fees. Fresh enrollmentshall be required for each degree program. Thefollowing documents are to be submitted along with theenrollment form:

A copy of matriculation certificate along with theoriginal. The later will be returned after verification.

A copy of the pre-requisite certificates/diplomas/degrees along with the originals. The later will bereturned after verification.

Original marks sheet(s) of the requisiteexamination(s) to be retained by the University.

Six recent photographs of 1” x 1” size. A copy of student’s C.N.I.C. (Or father’s C.N.I.C.

along with form ‘B’ from students less than 18years of age)

Students seeking admission on the basis of ‘A’ levels/’O’levels or degrees from foreign institution/universities arerequired to obtain and submit “Equivalence Certificate”from the Inter Board Committee of ChairmenIslamabad/Karachi in case of Matriculation,Intermediate. The equivalence certificate should beobtained from Higher Education Commission,Islamabad in case of graduation or masters.

AttendancePunctuality and regular attendance in lectures and othercourse related work is necessary. A minimum of 75%attendance is compulsory in every course. From thedate of commencement of a course, a maximum absentof 4 sessions in regular semester shall be allowed.Absences exceeding these limits will result in award ofan ‘F’ grade in the respective course. In certainexceptional cases such as hospitalization, on productionof suitable proof, the attendance requirement may berelaxed.

Teaching MethodologyA typical 3 credit hour course is delivered in 42-48teaching hours including examinations, 3 hours perweek, spread over roughly 16-18 lectures, assignments,seminars, research projects, guest speaker sessionsand/or any other learning activity suited to the course asdetermined by the Course Instructor, in consultation withthe Coordinator concerned and Director.

Course LoadThe normal course load for every semester shall befollowed as stated in the respective program offering inthe prospectus. The Institute reserves the right tochange the number and composition of the coursesrequired for a degree program due to any reason.

Grading SchemeA typical 3 credit-hour courses offered in all programsshall be evaluated on the following scheme:Quizzes, Assignments etc.Mid-term ExaminationFinal ExaminationTotal

Depending on special requirements of any course,the course instructor may prescribe a differentscheme of evaluation with the approval of theDirector. Students shall not be allowed to takeexaminations: (a) if they fail to produce I.D. Cardsin the Midterm Examination and Admit Cards(issued by Academic Office after all necessaryclearances) in the Semester Final Examination and/ or (b) if they are defaulting in payment of fee orthey have not completed Enrollment formalities.

Dropping/Changing a CourseA student may apply to drop/change a coursewithin the first two weeks from the start of thesemester / course in a regular semester. Studentsare not encouraged to drop more than one coursein a semester. A written permission shall berequired on the prescribed “Course Drop Form”with “No Objection” from the Course Instructor andrecommendation of the Coordinator concerned.The fee paid for such course shall not lapse andaccounted for later. However, a course taken insummer semester or on weekends cannot bedropped

Withdrawal from a CourseA student may apply for withdrawal from a coursewithin 15 weeks of start of session, in a regularsemester. A written permission from the Directorshall be required on the prescribed “CourseWithdrawal Form” with “No Objection” from theCourse Instructor and recommendation of theCoordinator concerned. Withdrawal from a coursetaken in summer semester must be applied for oneweek before the final examination. The studentsallowed withdrawal will not be awarded ‘F’ in thecourse and the course will not be counted forpurposes of calculating GPA/CGPA. The fee paidfor such course shall not be refunded.

Incomplete CourseA student who has completed all attendancerequirements in a course and taken all class testsand quizzes with a minimum of 50% marks in thesemester work and fails to appear in the semesterfinal examination due to any genuine reason mayapply for ‘incomplete’ in the course on the jointrecommendation of the Course Instructor and theCoordinator concerned. After the approval of theDirector, the student shall be granted ‘I’ which willnot count towards calculation of SGPA or CGPA.The student must apply for conversion and shall begiven an examination paper of 40 marks within sixweeks from the date of the final examination of thatcourse, failing which the‘ I will be converted to an‘F’.

Dropping a SemesterA student may be permitted to drop a maximum oftwo semesters for genuine reasons during adegree program. The period of discontinuationshall be included in the validity period of his/herenrollment

Promotion to the Next Higher Semester A minimumCGPA of 1.8 is required for promotion. However,the students with a CGPA less than 2.5 will be onprobation. The student who fails/drops/withdrawsfour or more courses will not be promoted. If astudent fails to achieve CGPA of 1.8 in name shallbe removed from the rolls of the University.

Eligibility for Award of DegreeStudents are required to obtain a minimumcumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.5 outof 4.0 to earn any degree, as per rules. Thestudents with a CGPA of less than 2.5 shall berequired to improve by repeating in full the courseswith a ‘C’ grade to fulfill the eligibility requirements.

Promotion from BBA 4-Years to MBABBA students with deficiencies / CGPA less than 2.5shall not be eligible for promotion to MBA. They shallbe required to remove deficiencies / Improve CGPA.

Improvement of CGPAStudents having CGPA of less than 3.0 may bepermitted to repeat only those courses in which theyhave earned ‘C’ Grade. Such courses may be takenin a regular semester, Weekend or SummerProgram on payment of requisite course fee.Permission to repeat a course shall be given onlyonce. If a student fails or gets a poorer result insubsequent attempt, his / her previous result shallhold good.

Migration and Transfer of CreditsStudents seeking admission on advanced standingbasis are allowed exemption for similar coursespassed in at least ‘B’ grade from recognized /Chartered institutions provided they also fulfill thebasic admission criteria for the relevant degreeprogram and on payment requisite fee for Migration/ Exemption. The equivalence of course outlinesshall be determined by the concerned Committee,N.O.C / Clearance from the Institute / University isrequired to be submitted by the student to getadmission at HIMS. If a foreign citizen migrates fromabroad, he from the relevant Ministry of theGovernment of Pakistan.

Exemption in a course shall be allowed only if thecourse contents match at least 80% with thecorresponding course at HIMS. Migration from arecognized Institute / University shall be allowedonly if the student has completed at least onesemester at the parent Institute / University. It is alsobe incumbent upon the students to complete at least50% of his / her course work at HIMS.

Transfer of credit(s) in similar course(s) passed by astudent is allowed only if he/she has transferredfrom a constituent or affiliated institution of HamdardUniversity.

Maximum Course LoadMaximum course load shall be determined on thebasis of CGPA of the student. A minimum CGPA of2.5 is mandatory for the award of a degree.Repeating / improving grade / dropping a course orsemester / incomplete / taking courses from othercampuses of this University shall disqualify thestudent for award of positions / medals.

InternshipAt least one, 6-8 week internship is mandatory forthe award of BBA, BBS and MBA degree. Theseinternships can be arranged /allowed duringsummer and / or any other convenient time. Theconcerned Coordinator, on the basis of reports fromthe organizations served, evaluates the internees.
