Joan is a Benedicne nun, author and renowned speaker who has wrien extensively on The Rule of Benedict. She speaks of stability as the act of being the best of who we are, wherever we are. It is basically an invitaon to slow down, to stay longer in the same way that the monks commied themselves to monasc life, even if we can’t stay put indefinitely. Joan Chister contends that stability brings out the best in us. Slowing down or staying put doesn’t stop us from growing: it actually demands that we grow. The polar opposite to stability is mobility and Sr Joan describes mobility as promong a sort of running away mechanism. She tells us that mobility totally works against sllness and peace. We can see this in our daily lives as we are encouraged to view every shop window as holding a beer bargain and every relaonship promising a more sasfying partnership. Every new place, every new person and new possibility tempts us to try again, to try over, to try once more to find the perfect place or at least the place perfectly suited to us. Our current culture doesn’t value perseverance or persistence; we tend to look at quick fixes and instant graficaon. I tend to favour Joan Chister’s approach of valuing the moment and appreciang the constancy of the journey. As we reach the end of another term, my hope is that in the midst of very busy lives you can spend me finding peace and stability in your lives as the benefits are truly life giving. The Year 12 girls have finished their school careers on a very high note, with an acvies day on Friday that was great fun, their academic assembly on Monday and their Grad Mass and lunch with their parents on Tuesday. This will be followed by the Year 12 Dinner Dance on Friday evening. This year’s Year 12 have been outstanding leaders and we wish them well as they begin a new chapter in their lives. I would ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare for their HSC exams commencing on 15 October. Thank you to the many parents who responded to my leer regarding the freezing of State Government grants to Catholic and independent schools for the next four years. This translates into a significant cut in government support for our school from July 2013. We are in the process of formulang our budgets at present and this news has certainly altered our approach and our thinking. We are now considering ways in which we can connue to provide our level of support and services without unduly impacng on students and families. I will keep you updated on this situaon as events unfold. As we reach the end of Term 3 I again thank you for your support and cooperaon. We are blessed to have a wonderful community that provides a supporve and welcoming environment and this only occurs as a result of the trust and cooperaon that you provide. On behalf of the staff I offer you our most sincere thanks. I will be accompanying the girls on the Italian trip over the term holidays and will not be back at the college unl the middle of the second week of Term 4. I would ask that you direct all inquiries to Dr Hack who will be acng principal at this me. I pray that you and your families have a peace filled and happy holiday. Yours sincerely, Frank Pi - Principal Seng the scene - Year 12 Grad Mass 2012 at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre
