Dear colleagues,

Welcome to Paris and the 2015 European Business Ethics Forum! This is the twelfth year of our Forum which is recognised by many as the best “peers only” place to share ideas and practices.

Our agenda includes our traditional mix of plenary sessions to “reflect” and “how-to” breakout sessions, together with the “new” Speed-Sharing session which was acclaimed last year when it was introduced.

This year we will again open our conference with a CEO to inspire ourselves. Patrick Pouyanné, newly appointed at TOTAL, will tell us why and how the group will continue the Ethics Journey his predecessor embarked on. In the two other plenary sessions Professor Ros Searle will talk about regaining trust after a crisis, and you will hear from two front liners their first-hand experience of monitorship.

Like previous years, you have a choice of 15 breakout sessions to choose from. We hope the menu list will satisfy all appetites for practical learning: from newly appointed practioners to highly experienced ones, from classical training questions to more edgy ones on big data, from cultural aspects in Ethics to structural controls in Compliance. The breakouts will run in 3 concurring sequences.

To continue building your network of peers, we will also have dinner together at the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée which is a symbolic venue for a European Forum like ours.

EBEF is held under

The Chatham House Rule:

The rule originated at Chatham House, the home of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London, with the aim of guaranteeing anonymity to those speaking within its walls in order that better international relations could be achieved. It is now used throughout the world as an aid to free discussion.

It allows people to speak as individuals, and to express views that may not be those of their organisations, and therefore it encourages free discussion. People usually feel more relaxed if they don’t have to worry about their reputation or the implications if they are publicly quoted.

Please note that a report of the forum will be made available to delegates following the event.

Professor Searle in her plenary session will provide participants with a stimulating, intensive and interactive immersion into what trust really is (and what it’s not) This will be based closely on her leading-edge scientific research undertaken with, amongst others, Dr Graham Dietz over recent years. She will show how trust is built, maintained under pressure and enhanced, and also how it can be repaired when it is broken, demonstrating the need for coherence by companies to achieve this. Stevan has been involved in anti-corruption compliance matters since 2007.

He is a graduate of St. Edward’s University and South Texas College of Law and is a licensed Attorney by the State of Texas, U.S.A.

Stevan is the Vice President Group Compliance in Technip’s corporate headquarters based in Paris. Together with Tech-nip’s Group Chief Compliance Officer, Stevan is responsible for the effective implementation and enforcement of Technip’s ethics and compliance program globally. As a result, he has extensive experience in designing and implementing compli-ance policies and procedures, establishing a global training program, performing extensive compliance reviews of the Company’s operations and conducting in-depth due diligence on third parties across the Company’s operations spanning 48 countries.

Following Technip’s settlement with U.S. Authorities, Ste-van helped to manage the Company’s successful two year Monitorship, including the implementation of recommenda-tions made by the Monitor and adherence to the terms of the Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice and Securities & Exchange Commission.

Patrick Pouyanné Chief Executive Officer

Graduate of French engineering schools Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Mines in Paris.

From 1989 to 1996, he held various positions in the French Industry Ministry and in ministerial offices, including Environment and Industry

Technical Advisor to the Prime Minister from 1993 to 1995 and Chief of Staff to the Information Technology and Space Minister from 1995 to 1996.

He joined Total in January 1997, as Chief Administrative Officer of Total E&P Angola and became Group Representative in Qatar and CEO of Total E&P Qatar in 1999. In August 2002, he was named Senior Vice President, Finance, Economics and Information Systems in Exploration & Production.

In January 2006, he became Senior Vice President, Strategy, Business Development and R&D in Exploration & Production. Patrick Pouyanné has been a member of Total’s Management Committee since May 2006.

In March 2011, he was appointed Senior Vice President, Chemicals and Senior Vice President, Petrochemicals.

In January 2012, Patrick Pouyanné was appointed President, Refining & Chemicals and member of the Executive Committee.

On October 22, 2014, the board of Directors of Total appointed Patrick Pouyanné Chief Executive Officer and President of the Executive Committee.

Rosalind Searle (PhD. MBA. BSC (hons) C.Psychol).

Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Psychology

Coventry University

Rosalind Searle is Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Psychology at Coventry University, Co-founder and Head of Trust

research at its Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations. She is an internationally acknowledged expert on trust in organizations especially HR processes, control and trust, trust vs distrust, and the repair of trust. Her work looks at trust across a number of sectors including private, public and third sector and from top teams to young people seeking their first employment. She is an active researcher and author of a number of chapters, books, special reports and journal articles. Currently she is leading a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development sponsored project in 5 large organisations looking at how they are responding to austerity. She is a coauthor for the CIPD (2012) sponsored report “Where has all the trust gone?” Her current work looks at the differences between trust and distrust and whether and how trust can be retained.

Mark joined Rolls-Royce in April 2013 as the Group Director of Risk. Mark is based at the corporate headquarters in London and has global responsibility for the following functions: Anti-Bribery and Corruption Compliance, Export Controls, Ethics, Offset and

Counter-trade, Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance and Security.

Prior to joining Rolls-Royce, Mark worked for 18 years at BAE Systems plc where he held a variety of legal roles including Group Chief Counsel Compliance & Regulation, Senior Legal Advisor and Head of Legal and Secretary for British Aerospace Regional Aircraft Limited.

Mark qualified as a Solicitor in 1990 and worked for six years in legal practice before commencing a career as an in-house lawyer. Mark specialises in the following areas: ABC compliance, white collar crime, international trade and export controls, litigation, mergers and acquisitions and anti-trust.

Mark is an Advisory Board Member of the UCL Department of Ethics and Law.

Dr Deborah Allen Managing Director, Corporate Responsibility

Deborah studied natural sciences at Cambridge and progressed to a doctorate in chemical engineering. She specialised in environmental consultancy, working for major industries across the world. In 2001, she

joined BAE Systems in the newly created corporate position of Director of Safety, Health and Environment. This role rapidly expanded to include the group responsibility for diversity and ethics. The combination of roles has since been entitled Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility encompassing the many and varied aspects arising from the governance and obligatory issues affecting a defence company in today’s world. She reports directly to the Chief Executive and leads the global CR team, which provides support in embedding aspects of CR throughout the Group.

Emmanuel Lulin Senior Vice-President & Chief Ethics Officer

Emmanuel joined L’ORÉAL in 1999 as Group General Counsel for Human Resources. In 2007, he created the Office of the Group Chief Ethics Officer at L’ORÉAL. Before joining L’ORÉAL, Emmanuel was admitted to the Paris Bar

in 1988 and practiced as a corporate and tax attorney at Debevoise & Plimpton in Paris and New York. He holds a Master of Laws from U. of Chicago Law School and law degrees from Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Paris II (Assas).

In 1988, he was the Lauréat Lavoisier of the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From 2007 to 2012, he was on the Board of the Ethics & Compliance Officer Association in the United States and is on the Board of the Cercle Ethique des Affaires in France since 2011. He is a Fellow of the Ethics Resource Center (Washington), a member of the Global Council on Business Conduct (New York), of the Ethics Committee of AFD - the French Agency for Development (Paris) and of the Ethics Committee of IFA - the French Institute of Directors (Paris). Emmanuel represents L’ORÉAL in a number of international organizations including U.N. Global Compact, U.N. Women, Institute of Business Ethics (London), ICC Commission on Corruption. In 2012 and 2014, he was recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as a “Top Ethics & Compliance Officer”.

Joan Dubinsky with over 30 years experience in the ethics field. Currently serves as the Director, UN Ethics Office (Chief Ethics Officer) for the United Nations. Reporting to the Secretary-General, Joan focuses on maintaining an

ethical organizational culture amidst the diversity of the UN. Her office provides confidential ethics advice, protects staff from retaliation, promotes whistleblowing, manages the UN’s Financial Disclosure Programme, advises on individual and institutional integrity risks, and provides outreach and training. Joan chairs the UN’s Ethics Committee, which promotes harmonization and collaboration among the ethics functions within the UN system.

Prior to joining the UN, Joan served as Director of Ethics for BAE Systems, Inc., where she was responsible for daily operations of the BAE Systems, Inc. ethics and business conduct program; from 2004 through 2009, Joan served as the Chief Ethics Officer for the International Monetary Fund, where she had institution-wide accountability for advising, communicating, and enforcing the Fund’s values and standards.

Joan is the founder of the Rosentreter Group, a management consulting practice providing expertise in business ethics, organizational development, and corporate compliance.

The Cercle d’Ethique des Affaires was founded in 1993 and is the longest serving Ethics and Compliance Association in France. In 2011, its Articles of Association were amended to keep abreast with the evolution of the profession with the goal to become a leading think tank where researchers and practitioners freely exchange on Ethics and Compliance.

The CEA is first and foremost a trusted place where Ethics and Compliance professionals i.e. officers in corporations and organisations come to meet their peers, discuss, benchmark, learn, share, etc. on a confidential basis, in a format especially designed for them --the “Club des Professionnels de l’Éthique” (Ethics and Compliance Professionals Club).

The CEA offers various activities to help strengthen its members’ professional practice from “reflecting” on prospective topics, to “learning” about a new law, and “doing” practical case studies in small working groups or conducting specific benchmark and surveys. For example, it recently put together the first French Professional Referential on Ethics and Compliance and adopted its Manifesto for Business Ethics.

The CEA also organizes book reviews with writers in the “Librairie de l’Éthique” (Ethics Book Club). The CEA partners with other organisations such as the IBE or ECOA. In 2013, it became the French Chapter of European Business Ethics Network .

It also participates in numerous conferences to constantly strengthen the integration of Ethics and Compliance into managerial decisions.

Thus trying to influence public and private decision-makers in order to reinforce the position of Ethics and Compliance in corporations and organisations.

The European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) is a membership-driven organisation concerned with promoting business ethics education and training as well as improving practices throughout Europe. It was established in 1987 in Brussels and is the only European network focused exclusively on business ethics and business ethics education. EBEN has over 1,100 members representing 40 countries. EBEN National Networks exist in Germany, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, France, Turkey, Austria, Greece, Cyprus, Finland, Italy, Israel, Switzerland, Ireland, Ukraine & Scandinavia.

In a dynamic social and political environment, EBEN supports business persons by offering an international network of academically informed competencies in the field of business ethics and related fields such as corporate social responsibility, accountability, and corporate citizenship. It offers an unparalleled arena for exchanging information on business initiatives and best practices.

EBEN’s diversity of membership means there are always many varied views within the group about business ethics. EBEN is an inclusive network and accepts plurality of perspectives.

The combination of ERC research and benchmarking and ECOA’s professional membership organization is unique in the industry.

The ECOA is a non-profit, 501(c)6 association that derives all of its revenue from members’ dues, conferences, and other program fees.

The Institute of Business Ethics was established in 1986 by businesses to encourage high standards of business behaviour based on ethical values. It is a UK registered charity (No. 1084014).

The IBE raises public awareness of the importance of doing business ethically and collaborates with other UK and international organisations with interests and expertise in business ethics.

It helps organisations strengthen their ethical culture and encourage high standards of business behaviour based on ethical values. The IBE helps organisations across the globe provide guidance to their staffs and build relationships of trust with their principal stakeholders through its advice, publications, events, training and education activites.

To fulfil the institute’s vision and mission, its team members help organisations by applying their practical business experience to the difficult ethical issues that companies face. The IBE is based in London and is supported by corporate and individual subscribers.
