A quorum was established. Once introductions were made around the room, Trudi introduced Marquita Richards to present testimonials to the Board Testimonials Marquita Richards introduced Terri Corp, the HR Manager with Alliance Data. Terri talked about how the “free services” of Workforce Partnership helped in their mass hiring event. She said also said how impressed she was with our mobile workforce unit. She also praised the quality of our staff and the pool of possible employees to choose from. Marquita also presented the Board with an employee video testimonial, which came from Thomas Vincent. Thomas decided on a career change and solicited the help of Workforce Partnership. Thomas said without our help, he would not have been able to go through the High-Tech Program at Johnson County Community College. Since completing that program, Thomas was able to land a job with the Kansas Foundation of Medical Care. He thanked Workforce Partnership for their help. Consent Agenda The consent agenda was reviewed. Trudi asked for a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Marvin moved for acceptance of the minutes as presented; Wendell seconded. Motion carried. Before Trudi dismissed the Board to go into their breakout sessions, Scott announced that the computer boot camp was in full swing. The camp is being held at Johnson County Community College. Graduation will be Friday, August 3rd in the Performing Arts Building at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Elise asked how many participants were attending the camp. Nancy said 48.

Strategic Plan Breakout Sessions Board members broke out into small groups at 8:25 and reconvened at 9:15 to discuss the progress of each group. Jo spoke on behalf of the Board Group. They discussed Board composition and compliance. Jo asked members of the group to submit names of perspective Board members to reach out to. The group also discussed assessment tools for Board member training. Elise reported for the Labor Market Group, stating their group was not ready to report. They still need to “nail down” the 3 x 3’s. Trent reported for the System Group, stating they are in a good place with measures and the right resources. Trent also said his team is discussing an open house event – not to show off the workforce centers, but to show employers what we do and they can tell us what they need. Scott said that he would like to see the members of each group meet outside of Board meetings. Scott said that he was still in the process of trying to fill the H1B Internship Developer position. 1. Jo has been in conversations with the owner of the Johnson County space. The lease expires in October. Jo has negotiated a lower lease rate and was able to set limits on how much we are out of pocket on maintenance and upkeep on the space. Steve asked for a motion to formally approve the lease renewal for the Johnson County workforce center location. Brenda made the motion; Trudi seconded. Motion carried.

2. Scott then turned the conversation towards office space for the board staff. Scott listed the reasons for needing to move – maintenance of the building, no current lease, wants to have all board staff under one roof and landlord financial problems/building ownership status in question.

3. Scott said the board staff and Trudi looked at a couple of spaces that could possibly work. One space was a little pricy but would house all 7 employees. The other space was at 78th and State – Security Bank. That space appeared to be rather small and would not accommodate all of the board staff at one time. Scott also discussed the idea of the board staff telecommuting and meeting at one of the workforce centers. Steve said that we would need to check with our insurance regarding the liabilities of working from home.

4. After extensive discussion of the two spaces to house the board staff, it was unanimously

decided that the board should choose the space that best accommodates the staff. Steve asked for a motion to accept the decision to move the board staff to the larger space on Parallel. Brenda motioned, Trudi seconded, motion carried.

5. Steve asked if there were other issues. Scott mentioned his evaluation. Trudi said that she

would need to conference with Steve regarding that. Meeting adjourned.
