Would you like to get to know other families in the
church? Then this is a great opportunity for you. The basic
idea is that your family will be joined with two other
family units, for the purpose of fellowship, one night a
month for three (3) months. You decide whether the
gathering will be a full dinner or a dessert fellowship. We
would like to start this in the New Year. You can pick up a
family registration form in your Sunday School Class or in
the Church Office. After sign-ups, we will create groups
to meet and enjoy the fellowship of new church friends.
James 1:22, “But be doers of the word, and
not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
As we have been given the opportunity to begin another
year together with Christ, I want to offer you a challenge.
With a little imagination, you can picture the hearers
of James’ day. They were showing up with Bible and
notebook in hand on Sunday morning, looking forward
to the time of being fed, enjoying one another’s company,
and making church one of the highlights of their week.
But as they went home, they safely tucked away what they
had learned and prepared for the routine of the week.
We, too, define our Christian experience in terms
of church attendance. Church attendance is vitally
important. Too often, however, that is the extent of our
experience. Basically, we have defined our Christian
experience as sitting and listening to other people talk
about the Word of God on Sunday mornings only. For
James, that just wasn’t cutting it.
As important as the things at church are on Sunday and
Wednesday, the goal of God’s grace in our lives is much
more. Reading, listening, taking notes, and discussing are
designed to be catalysts to action. If you are one of those
sideline Christians, 2009 is the time for you take action,
put on your helmet (salvation), and get into the game.
The challenge is, to get the most out of your Sunday, you
must connect on Monday. Begin with the Lord and His
Word before you go out in the morning. While you go
about your routine during the day, be aggressive in your
witness for Christ. On Monday nights, join us at 6:30
p.m. in Building A as we put on our helmets and get into
the game of life. It will make you a doer of God’s great
commission and not just a hearer.
My prayer for you in 2009 is that you have a blessed and
productive New Year.

Adult Reading ClubLooking for something relaxing to do after the holidays? What better
way to fill those winter days by slowing down and enjoying a book. It’s
time for the Adult Reading Club,
January 18 - February 22.
You can travel through this great land in which we live, make something
for the deck, plan a garden, study the birds, improve your health, draw
closer to our Lord, become a better prayer warrior, or travel down the
road that Jesus, David, Esther, Moses, Elijah, Ruth, etc., traveled. Maybe
you would like to read fiction that’s full of history, Bible stories, mystery,
or romance. The Media Library is full of good reading!
Just read one book from one of the following categories- Fiction,
Numbers, and Biography - and you’ll receive gifts as you read. At the
end of the reading club, we will have a drawing for some really nice gifts,
for example, a $30.00 gift certificate to Jim & Nick’s as one. Hope to
see you in the Media Library!
Children at HalcyonThe children in Halcyon’s Good News Club are in need of leaders. TRBC already has two teachers, but we need three leader helpers. These helpers
would be involved in gathering materials, organizing refreshments, and taking care of paperwork.
Contact Ruth Givens at 271-3363 if you are interested.
