    Our Wonderful God

    Year A, Quarter 1, Number 1

Hello Boys and Girls! Uncle Steve would like to tell you today about some wonderful things I learned

    in the Bible about God.

The Bible and the Holy Spirit

Have you ever wondered if the Bible is true? King David said in Psalm 119 verses 160 and 140:

Thy word is truefrom the beginning: (Ps 119:160) Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. (Ps

    119:140)

I love the Bible too. The Apostle Paul wrote to his young friend, Timothy, in his second letter, chapter 3and verses 15 to 17:

15 From a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through

faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for

reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, [thoroughly]

furnished unto all good works. (2Ti 3:15-17)

What does it mean that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God? The Apostle Peter said in his

second letter, chapter 1, verses 20 and 21:

20 No prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the

will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2Pe 1:20-21)

Just before Jesus went back to Heaven He made a promise to His disciples in John 14:16, 17, 25, and26:

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye

know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (Joh 14:16-17)25 These things have I spoken unto you, beingyetpresent with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy

Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your

remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (Joh 14:25-26)

Jesus made another promise in Luke 11:9 through 13:

9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto

you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be

opened.... 13 How much more shallyourheavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? (Lu 11:9-

    13)

What else did Jesus say the Holy Spirit would do for us in John 16:13 and 14?

    13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak ofhimself; but whatsoever he shall hear, thatshall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall

glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew itunto you. (Joh 16:13-14)

    God the Father

What did Jesus tell us about God the Father in John 16 verses 27 and 28:

27 The Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. 28 I

came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. (Joh

    16:27-28)

The Apostle John also tells us some wonderful things about God in his first letter, chapter 4, verses 8

    through 18:

8 God is love.... 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love

is perfected in us.... 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that

dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.... 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear:because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1Jo 4:8-18)

What is love like? Paul explains in his first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 4 through 8:

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it isnot self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil

but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love

    never fails. (1CO 13:4-8 NIV)

One day the Lord talked to Jeremiah the prophet. Jeremiah tells us their conversation in chapter 32 andverses 27 and 17:

Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? (Jer 32:27)

Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and

there is nothing too hard for thee: (Jer 32:17)

Jesus illustrated how much God knows and cares about each of us in Matthew 10: verses 29 to 31:

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father

[knowing]. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value

    than many sparrows. (Mt 10:29-31)

    The Godhead

What did Moses tell us about God in Deuteronomy 6 verse 4?

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: (De 6:4)

Many people then think, without studying further, that only God the Father is God. But what did our

Redeemer say in Isaiah 48:16 and 17?

16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it

was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. 17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer,

the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way

    thatthou shouldest go. (Isa 48:16-17)

The Apostle John explains more in his first letter, chapter 5 and verses 7 and 8:

7 There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in

    one. (1Jo 5:7-8)

The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost all work together as one God because they always agree in

one. The Word is another name for Jesus as we learn in the gospel of John, chapter 1, verses 1 to 3 and

    14:

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (Joh 1:1-3)

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten

of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (Joh 1:14)

The Apostle Paul told the Colossians in the first chapter, verses 15-17:

15 [Our Lord Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whetherthey

be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Col 1:15-17)

    Appeal

Jesus tells us how easy it is to have eternal life in a prayer recorded in John 17 and verse 3:

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

    (Joh 17:3)
