President Obama consistently professes to be a Christian. However, poll numbers demonstrate a change in public perception. In 2009, 11 percent of the public believed the President was Muslim. This year that number increased to 18 percent. Why is this? Maybe it is because these people do not like his positions and refuse to embrace his Christian profession. The White House claims there is a concerted effort to distort the President’s faith. I choose not to get into the middle of this controversy. If the President professes faith in Christ, I take him at his word. Nevertheless, the confusion over President Obama’s faith brings up a significant question. If people who know you were polled, how many would question your Christianity? How do you tell whether someone is a Christian? Jesus told His disciples that the world would know they were His followers by their love. Love is the quintessential mark of the Christian. If you are a loving person, your friends might recognize you as a Christian. Another acid test for Christianity is your belief system. The majority of the New Testament applies to a community and loses its force when directed only to the individual. Observable Chris- tians actively plug themselves in to Christ’s body, the church. Perhaps consistent video clips of President Obama leading his family to church for worship would lay any questions to rest. Someone once asked the question, “If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evi- dence to convict you?” Christ-like love, living what you believe, salty speech, and a commitment to church together- ness would all stand up nicely in the court of public opinion. A WORD FROM PASTOR JACK…PROOF OF FAITH

A recent poll demonstrates public confusion concerning President Barack Obama’s faith. President Obamaconsistently professes to be a Christian. However, poll numbers demonstrate a change in public perception. In 2009,11 percent of the public believed the President was Muslim. This year that number increased to 18 percent. Why isthis? Maybe it is because these people do not like his positions and refuse to embrace his Christian profession. TheWhite House claims there is a concerted effort to distort the President’s faith. I choose not to get into the middle ofthis controversy. If the President professes faith in Christ, I take him at his word. Nevertheless, the confusion overPresident Obama’s faith brings up a significant question. If people who know you were polled, how many wouldquestion your Christianity?

How do you tell whether someone is a Christian? Jesus told His disciples that the world would know theywere His followers by their love. Love is the quintessential mark of the Christian. If you are a loving person, yourfriends might recognize you as a Christian.

Another acid test for Christianity is your belief system. If you believe the Bible is the Word of God, and liveyour life according to its principles, your friends might recognize you as a Christian. True Christians are seriousabout living out their faith. Doctrine is not dry and meaningless. Doctrine comes alive through the life of the believerin Christ.

Followers of Christ also have a habit of talking about Him. Christian speech is salty, sometimes causing un-believers to take notice. When you are in a love relationship with someone who means everything to you, you can’thelp but include him in your conversations.

What about the church? While attending church does not guarantee you are a believer in Christ, the commit-ted believer in Christ will be committed to His body. Darshan’s Soul Notes…

Lord, Reign in Me

Over the past seven years, I have had the great privilege of sharing a prayer time withsome of the ladies here at Quaker Gap. We have examined the different names, attributes, andcharacter traits of our God. How wonderful it is to look at God as our Father, Shepherd, Coun-selor, and Friend! What peace there is in knowing that He is our Savior, Healer, Intercessor andShield! Many times however, I am challenged as God says, “Darshan, I want to be the Lordand Master of your life—every part of your life. I want you to let go and allow Me to rule overyour thoughts, emotions, and your actions.” This month, the Worship Team will be leading usin a new song entitled, Lord, Reign in Me. As we sing the following words, let's look at our livesand ask ourselves, “Am I letting God be the Lord of all that I am?... Am I reflecting Him to aworld that desperately needs a God with so much character that we can be awed by Him for-ever and never exhaust our resources!” As we begin this new church year, my prayer forQuaker Gap is that God will indeed be Lord and rule in each heart and life.

Singing His Praises!

Darshan

Over all the earth, You reign on high.Every mountain stream, every sunset sky,But my one request, Lord, my only aimIs that You'd reign in me again.

Lord, reign in me, reign in Your power,Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour. You are the Lord of all I am,So won't You reign in me again?

Over every thought, over every word,May my life reflect the beauty of my Lord,'Cause You mean more to me than any earthly thing. So won't You reign in me again?

Lord, reign in me, reign in Your power,Over all my dreams, in my darkest hour. You are the Lord of all I am,So won't You reign in me again?

The Salt Box

As I reflect on this past summer, Ithink about all the high lights that have takenplace in the “Salt-Teens” youth ministry here atQuaker Gap Baptist Church. From the kick off “HelloSummer” lock-in to the last super supper at the Clarks’house, this really has been an amazing summer for us asa youth group and a church.

You see, as we started this summer, I knew thatthis was not going to be just some ordinary summer hereat Quaker Gap. I knew that our youth were going to bestretched and challenged over the course of the summer. Now, as I look back, our youth stepped up to the chal-lenge and hit it out of the park. They went beyond ourwildest expectations! Over the course of the summer ouryouth didn’t just stick to the traditional summer plan thatinvolves Sunday Church, Wednesday youth. and a fewfun activities in between to keep them busy. No, ouryouth stepped it up, they planned a whole Vacation Bi-ble School for the children of our church and community, they lead the church on Sunday morning in Worship twotimes. They took over for an amazing Youth Sunday, and they held a local mission trip in our communitywhere they were involved in working in several differentareas. They painted the youth room in preparation forthe completion of the remodeling, and they also started aMonday night devotional that meets at the home of oneof the youth.

See, this summer was not a simple, quiet sum-mer for the youth here at Quaker Gap. This summerthey were challenged to “Step out of their Box.” Whatwe meant by that was that we wanted them to put what-ever it was that was hindering them from being the peo-ple that God wanted them to be, or holding them backfrom going all out for God, to put that aside and go allout for God… and they did! The fruits that we are seeingfrom them accepting this challenge are great and mindboggling.

This past summer the youth here at Quaker GapBaptist Church stepped up to the plate and swung forthe fences. Not only did they clear the fences, they ac-complished so much more. As a youth minister, I am soproud of our young people and what God is doing intheir lives. I look forward to seeing what God has instore for us this new school year…

FROM THE HEART

ABBA’S FAMILYTHRIFT STORE

August 2, 2010

To my brothers and sisters in Christ:

I wanted to commend the following individuals: Mia Moffitt,Lizzy Shaw, Haley Hopwood, Morgan Hayden, Kassie Brown,Kayleigh Weavil, Austin Jobe, Dylan Turner, Ryan Anderson

And their leaders: Kathy Holt and Lisa Hinson.

On July 28th and 29th, your youth group and their directorsworked from 10 am to 2 pm both days and accomplished aweek’s worth of work in a few hours. In fact, we had to come upwith more tasks for them to perform because they accomplishedso much more than we had anticipated.

The guys emptied, cleaned, and reorganized a large shed full ofsupplies. I figured that alone would take both days. The did it in2½ hrs. They loaded my truck full of old computers, hand-scrubbed our backroom floor twice, vacuuming up moisture witha shop vac. On their hands and knees, they scrubbed spots on ourcarpet throughout the store and glued vinyl baseboards back inplace.

The girls helped with displays, returning clothes to proper orien-tation, dressing mannequins, etc. They also created some teenfashion displays. They spent a great deal of time going up anddown the racks correcting things.

During this entire effort the group was courteous, diligent, andpleasant to be with. Their interaction with us, as well as withcustomers they encountered, reflects well on Quaker Gap BaptistChurch and our Lord Jesus Christ. You can be very proud ofthem.

Thank you for sending them to serve. Their labors and spirit aregreatly appreciated.

The U In JESUS

Before U were thought of or time had begun,God stuck U in the name of His Son.

And each time U pray, you'll see it's true,You can't spell out JesUs and not include U.

You're a pretty big part of His wonderful name,For U, He was born; that's why He came.

And His great love for U is the reason He died.It even takes U to spell crUcified.

Isn't it thrilling and splendidly grandHe rose from the dead, with U in His plan?

The stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew, and this word resUrrection is spelled with a U.

When JesUs left earth at His upward ascension,He felt there was one thing He just had to mention.

'Go into the world and tell them it's trueThat I love them all - Just like I love U.'

So many great people are spelled with a U,Don't they have a right to know JesUs too?

It all depends now on what U will do,He'd like them to know, but it all starts with U.
