A SENIOR’S LAUGHA SENIOR’S LAUGH

QQAS had the pleasure of hosting a Seniors

Art demonstration in conjunction with the

Queanbeyan West Rotary ClubQueanbeyan West Rotary Club.

Rotary arranged the outing for residents of

the Warrigal Home in Queanbeyan.

Thanks to member Stuart Marshall Stuart Marshall for

making the demo just more than a paint job

the seniors asked many questions and enjoyed talking about their experiences as well.

Rotary arranged and paid for a lovely high tea from the popular Riverbank Café Riverbank Café (next door) and Elaine and Brent made sure the gathering was

a special occasion. Kathleen (Warrigal) commented how much the residents enjoyed this outing each year. A big thanks to Stuart!A big thanks to Stuart!

LOUISE CORKE’S PASTEL WORKSHOPLOUISE CORKE’S PASTEL WORKSHOP

A A resounding “hurrah” was the response when participants in her workshop last weekend were told Louise will be returning to QAS in March 2016 for yet another workshop. It is wonderful to have a tutor such as Louise: a highly accomplished artist and a knowledgeable and generous tutor as well. “Only paint with positive thoughts – enjoy every stage” – what a wonderful message. Demonstration, discussion and lots of encouragement and advice were the hallmarks of this workshop. How to finish off a work of art – how to know when it is finished - is something we all want to know and this was addressed. Avoiding health issues when using pastels – have air circulating but don’t have fan blowing towards you; wipe hands clean regularly or use a barrier cream to limit the amount of pastels absorbed into the skin. Take your work outside and tap the back of it to release loose pastel rather than blowing on it and getting a face full of pastel dust. Wet wipe all work areas rather than broom or dust your work space. Don’t work too vigorously with the pastel to the surface to minimize the amount of dust floating in the air around your artwork. These were just a few of the messages Louise passed on to keep us healthy and enjoying our pastels safely. We look forward to welcoming Louise back next year 11/12 March.

All those enrolled for this past workshop will have first preference when the time comes. Pam Padovan Pam Padovan Workshop Co-ordinator
