Symptom

This note describes how to install a new SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1 system on Windows Server 2008(R2).When SAP originally released SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1, Windows Server 2008 (R2) was not yetavailable. Therefore, SAP tested and released SAP CRM 2007 and SAP SCM 5.1 on Windows Server 2003only. The installation guides for SAP CRM 2007 and SAP SCM 5.1, only include information about howto install an SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1 system on Windows Server 2003.Windows Server 2003, however, has serious problems with the memory management if large shared memorysegments are used, which, for example, is the case with the IPC in SAP CRM 2007. For moreinformation about the memory management problems, see SAP note 1316558.

To solve the memory management problems, Microsofts recommends migrating the installation to WindowsServer 2008 (R2). Therefore, SAP will also release SAP CRM 2007 and SAP SCM 5.1 on Windows Server2008 (R2).

In this note, "Windows Server 2008 (R2)" - with (R2) written in parentheses - means that theinformation applies to both Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

l Windows Server 2008 (R2) specific database DVD/CDs.For more information, see the database-specific section below.

I. Installation of a Central or Distributed System

1. Use the SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1 installation guide for the general installationprocedure, and the SAP CRM 5.0 SR3 or SAP SCM 5.0 SR3 installation guide for Windows Server

2008-specific information.Note that the Windows Server 2008 information is also valid for Windows Server 2008 R2.

2. Use the following DVDs to install a central or distributed system:

¡ Modified Installation Master DVD for SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1

¡ Modified kernel DVD (see above)

¡ SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1 DVD/CD set (see also the media list)

3. Install the SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1 system, by running SAPinst from the modifiedInstallation Master DVD.Since the SAPinst patch does not contain a Manifest file that is required for Windows Server2008 (R2) to run elevated, you either have to start sapinst.exe from within an elevated commandprompt or start it elevated from the Explorer (right-click on the sapinst.exe and choose 'Run as

administrator').When installing the SAP instances, you might have the problem that the SAP Windows Servicecannot be created or started. In this case, repeat the installation step with the 'Retry'button.

II. Installation of a High-Availability System with Microsoft Failover Cluster

1. Use the SAP CRM 5.0 SR3 installation guide to install the SAP CRM 2007 system, or use the SAPSCM 5.0 SR3 installation guide to install the SAP SCM 5.1 system.Make sure that you perform the installation steps in the order they are listed in chapter "7.3Installation" of the MSCS part (except for Oracle, see section "Database-Specific Information"below).

On Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster:To create the File Server cluster resource on Windows Server 2008 R2, do not use the preparation

steps described in the chapters for the installation of the SCS or ASCS instance (steps k, l, m,n).Instead, create the File Server cluster resource from within a command prompt as follows:

Open a command prompt in Administrative mode and type:cluster res "SAP <SID> FileServer" /CREATE /GROUP:"SAP <SID>" /TYPE:"File Server"

2. Use the following DVDs for the MSCS-specific installation options:

¡ To install or configure the ASCS, SCS, First MSCS Node, Additional MSCS node, Enqueue

- SAP CRM 2007 or SAP SCM 5.1 DVD/CD set

When running SAPinst from the modified Installation Master DVD, note the following:Since the SAPinst patch does not contain a Manifest file that is required for Windows Server2008 (R2) to run elevated, you either have to start sapinst.exe from within an elevatedcommand prompt or start it elevated from the Explorer (right-click on the sapinst.exe andchoose 'Run as administrator').

When installing the SAP instances, you might have the problem that the SAP Windows Servicecannot be created or started. In this case, repeat the installation step with the 'Retry'button.
