Rush hours and commuting are rated one ofthe highest stress factors in today's world.The convenience and speed of vehicles andhighways are outweighed by aggravating traf-fic tie-ups. Not to mention the frustration ofcoping with construction, detours and speedbumps. We have so much to accomplish, weresent anything that slows us down. So muchmore would get done if everything would getout of our way.Ever wonder if God feels thesame way? Working with Hiseternal "to do" list of reachingthe lost, comforting the griev-ing, healing the sick, does Hesigh at the constant derailmentof His plans? Worse yet, are wepersonally the speed bumps inHis highway?Peter faced that painful revelation in today'sreading. Usually so quick to declare his faith,Peter planted his fear like a stop sign onGod's highway. It took Jesus' rebuke to movePeter aside so that God's will could be accom-plished.

Daily: Everything we need to know to strengthenour consciences and make good decisions is in theBible. It is in Scripture that we discover God's guidingvoice. Take time daily to pray, read Scripture, and ask theHoly Spirit to reveal its message for you.

Weekly: Attend Mass each Sunday and Holy Day.

Do whatever is necessary so you can receiveCommunion. This is key.

In this Gospel reading, Jesuscompared God's kingdom to avineyard in the charge of agenerous landlord. In theparable, the landlord hiredgroups of workers at differenttimes of the day: at the startof the workday, at

The vineyard is God's kingdomand God is the landlord. Some Biblescholars propose that the earlier groupsof workers represented the Jewishpeople, who had followed God's lawsfor thousands of years, while the

Gentiles were the latecomers. Theworkers also stood for those whom

God calls at different stages oflife: from infancy,

adolescence, adulthood,and old age.All the laborers receivedthe same reward. It must

The Eucharist does for our souls whatfood does for our bodies. You wouldn'tgo for weeks without eating and stillexpect to be strong and healthy. Fromthe Eucharist, we receive all the graceswe need for the rest of the week. Jesussays, "Come to me, all you who labor andare burdened, and I will give you rest"(Matthew 11:28). Our need for strengthand rest are satisfied by Christ. TheChurch commands us to receive weeklywhat is, in fact, essential for ourspiritual well-being.
