Reverend John D’Antonio, Pastor
I am the Bread of Life
My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes
down from heaven and gives life to the world.
We adore you O Christ and we
bless you; by your holy cross
you have redeemed the world.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION:
Jesus' question to the crowd, and to each one of us as well, echoes the words of the prophet Isaiah: "Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy" (Isaiah 55:2)? There are two fundamental types of hunger - physical and spiritual. Only the Lord Jesus can satisfy the hunger in our heart - the hunger for truth, life, and love. Jesus alone can satisfy our hunger for truth - because in him alone is the Truth which is found in God. Jesus alone can satisfy our hunger for life - because he alone can give us abundant life - the supernatural life of God which transforms us now and lasts forever. Jesus alone can satisfy our deepest hunger for love - the love of God that knows no end, that never fails nor forsakes us, that outlasts sin and death. Jesus alone can satisfy the eternal hunger of our heart, mind, and spirit. Theresa of Avila's prayer book contained a bookmark which she wrote: Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you; all things pass, God never changes. Patience achieves all it strives for. Whoever has God lacks nothing, God alone suffices. Is God enough for you?

Could God be calling you to be a Lay Ecclesial Minister in His Church? People often ask how they might grow in their faith. In response, Bishop Lynch initiated the Lay Pastoral Ministry Institute (LPMI) to equip Catholics to “be more” by forming them Spiritually, Intellectually, and Pastorally. LPMI is a 4 year program: 1 informal year of discernment and 3 years of formal academic training and spriitual growth. Classes begin September 12, 2015 at Christ the King Parish, 821 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa. Information about the LPMI program can be found at website http://dosp.org/lpmi, contact Dale Brown at [email protected] or call 727-344-1611, ext 5458.

Stewardship Reflection “Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not.” (EXODUS 16:4) When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten. In the same way today, God calls us to be content with a fair portion and to be willing to share the rest.

St. Vincent de Paul - 548-9878
The Gospel tells us “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” By “listening” we are able to live the gospel. Gospel living is something so simple as taking the time to listen to those who need to spill out their hearts when seeking help. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you enable the members of the Society to become a “listening heart” to the hungry, the homeless and the struggling poor. Volunteers spend approximately 2 hours per week answering phones or delivering food. Suggested Shopping List: Canned vegetables, baked beans, tuna, pasta noodles and sauces, canned and package pasta dinners, macaroni and cheese, saltines and cookies. Monetary donations enable us to purchase additional food for the needy.
To prepare for the arrival of
Pope Francis to the United States, we will have the following on the First Friday of August and September 2015:
8:30 – 10:30am: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 7:30 – 8:30 pm: Holy Hour and Benediction
We will pray for the safe journey of our Holy Fatherand his well being while in the United States and for all Christian Families as he attends the International Conference on the Family in Philadelphia, PA.
