Ziggawat and Mezuzah hopped into their hot air balloon to spread the news. Everyone in Ziggleland was so excited!

“We’re going to have a contest!” Ziggawat announced. “Here are the rules. You must look for items that can be used to do a mitzvah. Whoever picks up the most items will be the winner. As the grand prize, the winner will get to take home our brand new Mezuzah friend!”

“Hurray!” everyone cheered.“There’s just one more rule,” continued

Ziggawat. “You cannot touch the mitzvah items with your hands.”

“No hands!” they all gasped. “But how?” “The challenge is part of the fun!” smiled

Ziggawat. “1-2-3 — Go!”

“Mazel tov (מַזָּל טוֹב)!” shouted Mezuzah (מְזוּזָה) as he came running into Ziggawat’s house. “Just today the sofer finished writing all the words in me. Now I am a kosher mezuzah (מְזוּזָה) and I can go up on someone’s door! I can help someone do a mitzvah (מִצְוָה)!”

“I have an idea!” exclaimed Ziggawat. “Let’s have a mitzvah contest! Everyone can try to collect as many mitzvah items as possible, and

you, Mezuzah (מְזוּזָה), can be the grand prize!”

Mem looked around. Everyone was finding mitzvah items, except him.Wait! What was that in the front of him? Matzah (מַצָּה)! Matzah could be used for

a mitzvah! It is a mitzvah to eat it on Pesach or to enjoy after Shabbos for melaveh malkah (מְלַוֵּה מַלְכָּה). Mem was about to stretch out his hands and take the matzah when he remembered the rule: no touching with hands.

What should he do? He wanted to join in this contest too. Suddenly he heard a loud … “MOO!”

Morah Mindy (מוֹרָה מִנְדִי) and Miri (מִירִי) used masking tape to pick up money for tzedakah.

Moshe (מֹשֶׁה) and Mordy (מוֹרְדִי) used their Magnificent Mitzvah Machine to pick up a megillah (מְגִילָּה) and a menorah (מְנוֹרָה).

Moose used his antlers to pick up some mayim water, which could be used for the ,(מַיִם)mitzvah of netilas yadayim, washing hands.

Mr. Kaf used his mustache to move meatballs away from milk, making sure the milk and meat didn’t mix.

What a mess!

Who said that? It was the cow, Mrs. Moo!“Why, hello Mrs. Moo. Are you playing too?” Mem asked the cow. “Moo!” Mrs. Moo answered. “Can you help me, Mrs. Moo?” asked Mem. “Do you know how I can pick up the

matzah without touching it with my hands?” “Moo!” Mrs. Moo answered. She smiled at Mem, bent her head down low and started

to munch on the grass. Mrs. Moo seemed to be telling Mem something. Mem watched Mrs. Moo carefully as she bent her head down to munch on the grass. That was it! Mrs. Moo was showing Mem that he could use his mouth the same way!

“My mouth can be a ‘moo-mouth,’ just like Mrs. Moo.Mrs. Moo can munch on the ground, and I can do that too!My mouth is all the way down, right near to the ground.I can use my mouth to pick up, the matzah which I found!”

Mem happily moved over to the matzah, opened his mouth near the ground and … munch! He got the matzah!

“What fun!” Mem laughed. “I can play in this contest with my moo-mouth!”

Next, he spotted some mishloach manos (מִשְׁלוֹחַומָנוֹת)! That is used for a mitzvah on Purim! He opened his mouth and ... “Munch!” He got the mishloach manos!

“In five more minutes the contest will be over!” announced Ziggawat.

Five more minutes! Mem only had two mitzvah items! Then he noticed that everyone else also had one or two mitzvah items. That meant if he could find just one more item, he could be the winner! Mem looked all around. All he saw was a small piece of marble cake. “Is marble cake an item that can be used for a mitzvah?” Mem wondered to himself. “Let me think. Let me think.” “I know!” he thought excitedly. “It

could be used to say the brachah of Mezonos (מְזוֹנוֹת)! I must get it quickly before anyone else gets it!”

Mem quickly moved over to the marble cake. No one else was there. He opened his munching mouth and was about to munch, when …

“Mine!” called Missy Monkey. Mem looked up and saw Missy Monkey looking at the marble cake. “Ten more seconds!” announced Ziggawat. “Countdown! 10-9-8-7-6 ...”Missy looked down at Mem with a hopeful look. Mem knew that he got to the marble

cake first. He could really take it and win the contest. Then he looked at little Missy’s face. She wanted it so badly. What should he do?

“... 5-4-3,” Ziggawat continued to count down. “I will be mevater (מְוַתֵּר)!” Mem told Missy. “You can have the marble cake!”Mem picked up the plate with his mouth and held it up to Missy. Missy happily

scooped up the marble cake with her tail. “... 2-1! The contest is over! Please gather around so we can see who the winner

is!” announced Ziggawat.

“The winner is … The Monkey Mishpacha (מִשְׁפָּחָה)!” declared Ziggawat. “Hurray for the Monkey Family!” everyone clapped. “We’re happy for them!” Ziggawat had a surprise. “We have another winner too!” he said, pointing to … Mem!

“Mem has an empty plate that shows how he was mevater his cake. Being mevater is part of the mitzvah of v’ahavta l’rayacha kamocha.”

“Hurray!” everyone applauded again. “Now we have two winners!” “But we only have one Mezuzah prize!” said Ziggawat. “What should we do?”“Me be mevater!” Missy called out. “Good for you!” smiled Mama Monkey. “We live in trees. There is no door for a mezuzah

on our leaves. Mem has a house where he can use a mezuzah properly.” “Thank you! Thank you!” exclaimed Mem, happily hugging Mezuzah. “Everyone is

invited to my house for a celebration party! When you come, make sure to look out for my brand new Mezuzah and give him a big kiss!”

Mine!

Mem acted wonderfully by being mevater (מְוַתֵּר). Mevater means to give up what you want, for the benefit of others. How was Mem mevater?

How can you act with that middah?

Middos Wonders!
