This post requires a dedicate Clinical Operational Lead who can lead and manage a multi- professional team within the specialist service, working collectively with the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapists, Psychology Lead and Clinical Service Manager.

You will need leadership and management skills and experience. Clinical skills and experience working in the field of Neurology and/or Stroke, experience working in the community setting would be desirable. Excellent organisational, communication and team working skills are required. Working collectively with clinical leads and the team and patients to co design and develop clinical guidelines, pathways and processes will also be integral to this role.

We are very proud of our single service providing seamless access to SLT services across acute and community in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We have a growing team of 47 trained SLTs and assistants supported by a central administration team and led by a professional manager.

We are looking for a highly experienced speech and language therapist who has worked extensively with adults with acquired neurological conditions in the acute sector in a leadership capacity. You will work alongside leads in Acute Stroke and Acquired Brain Injury to provide strategic leadership and line management for a team of around 25 SLTs working across the acute trust. You will work closely with other leads and service manager to provide assurance that the service is safe, effective efficient and responsive. You will also be a core member of the Adult SLT Service senior leadership team.

You will work very closely on a daily basis with a Band 7 operational lead to ensure the day to day running of the service to UHL is safe and maximising efficiency. The service currently works out of 3 acute sites, so liaison between the post-holder, clinical leads and operational lead are critical to ensure the service operates effectively.

In addition to this we are looking for highly specialist skills in dysphagia, both instrumental and bedside. A clinical caseload will be maintained as part of this role. Initially this will be focused on the general in patient caseload, but there will be close

working with SLT leads in all specialisms to share and co-ordinate skills in dysphagia across the service.

The successful applicant will lead in developing and shaping the strategic direction of dysphagia management across the acute sector including co-ordinating the development of FEES, video fluoroscopy and dysphagia training across the trust. As well as providing leadership in developing the existing service you would be identifying service development needs and working with SLT colleagues and other leaders across UHL to ensure these are highlighted and progressed as appropriate. There will also be the need to liaise closely with colleagues providing SLT services in the community to ensure service developments work across the whole pathway in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The ideal candidate will motivate, lead and develop their team. Whilst working on the ward you will be expected to work shifts cover 7 days a week including early, late and night.

The crisis service consist of multi-disciplinary team that include Nurses, Health Care Support Workers and Consultant psychiatrist. Our multi-disciplinary team offers two approaches to care delivery, namely, home treatment and Crisis Care.

You will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of evidence based home treatment. You will both deliver this personally and coordinate the delivery of care by a team of health care support worker. Whilst working in the crisis team you will be expected to work shifts cover 7 days a week including early and late shifts.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health expertise and experience is desirable, but NOT essential as we recognise that expertise and experience in adult mental health is easily transferable. In addition we offer opportunities to enhance your existing skills and learn new ones.

The community team provides a range of services to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital, to support early discharge home and to provide rehabilitation programs at home with the ultimate aim for most patients of independence and self-management.

The role also involves managing and leading a team of community nurses under the guidance and support of a band 7 senior district nurse and a community services matron.

The Trust is proactive in encouraging mobile working, with staff supplied with tough books to document in onto SystmOne in the patients home.

You will have a proven ability to promote patient independence, a sound theoretical knowledge underpinning highly skilled assessment and nursing skills, demonstrate a flexible approach to patient care and be adaptable to new initiatives in a culturally diverse setting.

As an existing member of the team you will have a proven record of operating to SLA/OLA standards and communicating complicated IM&T issues to non IM&T staff/suppliers. You will have experience of managing incoming issues and requests and seeing them through to either full resolution or escalation, where necessary.
