¶Entrance Hymn - Sung by All

O worship the LordHymnal – 52

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

All Amen. The Lord be with you.

All And with thy spirit.

All Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Lord have mercy upon us, and write all these Thy laws in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

¶Collect for the First Sunday after Trinity

¶Collect for the Second Sunday after EpiphanyAlmighty and everlasting God, who dost govern all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully hear the supplications of thy people, and grant us thy peace all the days of our life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All Amen.

¶Old Testament LessonNow there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

2 Kings 4 v. 1-7This is the Word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.

¶Gradual Psalm

So when they cried unto the Lord in their trouble : he delivered them out of their distress. For he brought them out of darkness and out of the shadow of death : and brake their bonds in sunder.O that men would therefore praise the Lord for his goodness : and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of men!For he hath broken the gates of brass : and smitten the bars of iron in sunder.Foolish men are plagued for their offence : and because of their wickedness.Their soul abhorred all manner of meat : and they were even hard at death's door.So when they cried unto the Lord in their trouble : he delivered them out of their distress. He sent his word and healed them : and they were saved from their destruction.O that men would therefore praise the Lord for his goodness : and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of men! That they would offer unto him the sacrifice of thanksgiving : and tell out his works with gladness!

Psalm 107 v. 13-22

¶New Testament LessonHaving then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate.

This is the Word of the Lord. All Thanks be to God.

Romans 12 v. 6-16¶Gradual

¶Gospel Acclamation

Praise the Lord all ye angels of his:Praise him all his host.

The Lord sent his word, and healed them: and they were saved from their destruction. O that men would therefore praise the Lord for his goodness: and declare the wonders that he doeth for the children of men.

¶The Gospel

The Lord be with you:All And with thy spirit.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John:All Glory be to thee, O Lord.

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, and saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

John 2 v. 1-11

This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise be to thee, O Christ.

¶Nicene Creed - Sung by All

The Sub-deacon leads the congregation in the intercessions for the Church and the world. The response to each bidding is Hear our prayer.

¶ConfessionThe Celebrant invites the people to confess their sins, kneeling:

Ye who do truly and earnestly repent you of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways; Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God, meekly kneeling upon your knees.

All Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, judge of all men: we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Celebrant pronounces the Absolution

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all those who with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him; Have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen.

We celebrate a day sanctified by three miracles: today a star led the Wise Men to the manger; today water was changed into wine at the marriage feast; today Christ chose to be baptized in the Jordan for our salvation. Alleluia.

And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end.

Thy Word is a Lantern Unto My Feet and a Light unto my Paths (Ps 119.105)

On the table in the cloister there is a card entitled 'Prayer' which you are welcome to pick up.  It offers a short form of prayer to guide you

in your prayers at home and to join them with the daily rhythm of the community at Pusey House. The Bible readings which we use each day are printed above. You can follow these readings at home by choosing one or two each day, perhaps following one of the three paths (Gospel, New Testament letter, or the Old Testament). It's helpful if you choose a pattern that you can follow rather than setting a rule which does not work for you.  Study Bibles, in the form of Apps or books, offer help with difficult passages.
