VIGNETI DEL VULTURE (BASILICATA)

Valentino Sciotti (of Vesevo, Gran Sasso and other Farnese estates) took over this small co-operative in Acerenza, in the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture zone, in 2008. Consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini works with the talented Massimo di Bari to capture in the finished wine the character of the grapes and the zone.

VIGNETI DEL SALENTO (PUGLIA)

This is Farnese’s venture in Puglia (they are also responsible for Gran Sasso, Zabù, Vesevo, Tufarello and others). The wines are made at two wineries in the province of Taranto on the western flank of Salento. The style of the wines - fresh whites, soft and generous reds - will be familiar to those who buy their other wines, as winemaker Filippo Baccalaro is the driving force behind this new label. Filippo, a

native of Piemonte, has been working in Puglia for almost two decades. He was attracted by the rich, ripe flavours of the fruit and the ability to capture these flavours with a minimum use of technology, but a lot of know-how.

GIN

Thin Gin Ireland

Thin Gin is a new Irish dry gin from Blackwater Spirits.

The distinctive juniper perfume mingles with strong citrus notes of orange, lemon and lime on the nose. It uses all Irish grown botanicals such as apple, wild thyme, elder flowers, white clover and tansy. Thin Gin is robust and stands up well when patrnered with a good tonic. 

Made with more than 20 different botanicals, many of which are Irish grown and noticeable on the front palate including apple, wild thyme, elderflower, gorse and tansy. 

Mellow juniper, yellow apple and herb aromas with a hint of orange peel, crisp and fruity on the palate before the spice kicks in — lingering cardamom and coriander on the finish.

A punchy complex gin — excellent with tonic, in a Tom Collins, or simply for sipping.
