Turnitin is a subscribed web-based service that plugs into Moodle and provides: an online inbox for each assignment into which you can upload/submit your work support for academic integrity by helping you to check that your work has been appropriately cited and referenced tools that facilitate online marking by tutors and hence access to feedback online by you Turnitin can only be accessed via Moodle. That is, when a link to it is added to your module site by a teacher. To Submit an Assignment to Turnitin: 1. Login to Moodle and navigate to the relevant module site 2. How to Submit an Assignment to Turnitin (Student)What is Turnitin?

Turnitin is a subscribed web-based service that plugs into Moodle and provides:

an online inbox for each assignment into which you can upload/submit your work

support for academic integrity by helping you to check that your work has been appropriately cited and referenced

tools that facilitate online marking by tutors and hence access to feedback online by you

Turnitin can only be accessed via Moodle. That is, when a link to it is added to your module site by a teacher.

To Submit an Assignment to Turnitin:

1. Login to Moodle and navigate to the relevant module site2. Click on the Turnitin assignment link. Look for the Turnitin icon (shown in image 1 below). The title or name of the link will vary.

4. Click Submit Paper to make a submission.

NOTE: If this is your first Turnitin submission this academic year, you may be prompted to agree to the TurnitinUK User Agreement. Ensure that your pop up blocker does NOT prevent you from seeing the Turnitin User Agreement.

Hence, if this is your first time accessing Turnitin this academic year, you will see the pop-up screen (image 3) below, when you click on the Submit Paper link

***If you have already agreed to the User Agreement, proceed to step 5.

After clicking on ‘Please click here to read and accept the Agreement’ button the TurnitinUK User Agreement pop-up will appear (see image 4 below):

When presented with this TurnitinUK User Agreement you need to click on the black 'I agree - continue' button in order to make or open any submission.

It may take 30-60 seconds for Turnitin to process your acceptance of its TurnitinUK User Agreement so wait for a while before you do anything else. This pop-up (image 5) will appear next:

5. If prompted, select a Submission Type by using the drop down menu. The File Upload method will normally accept these files types/formats and can generate an Originality Report for any of them:

Microsoft Word® (.doc / .docx)1

OpenOffice Text (.odt)2

Google Docs via Google Drive™ (.gdoc files are NOT acceptable)3

WordPerfect® (.wpd)

PostScript (.ps/.eps)

Adobe® PDF4

Microsoft PowerPoint® (.pptx, .ppt, .ppsx, and .pps)5

Microsoft Excel® (.xls and .xlsx)6

HTML

Rich text format (.rtf)

Plain text (.txt)

Hangul Word Processor file (.hwp)

6. Enter a meaningful Submission Title for your assignment.

7. Upload your file using either Method 1 or Method 2 displayed in image 6 below. If using Method 1, click on the upload icon. If using Method 2 drag and drop your file into the upload area and proceed to step 11

If your file type is rejected, if available please use the Text Submission method and cut and paste your text into the text box provided.

8. If using Method 1, Click Upload a file

9. Click Browse and a locate your file

11. The file should now appear in the file submit area. If you would like to delete it, click on it and select Delete

12. If there is a check box, (as shown in image 8) tick it to agree with the statement presented. Skip to step 13 if there is no check box.

13. Click Add Submission

14. A page will appear temporarily informing you that your submission is in progress. A screen displaying your Digital receipt will then appear.

15. Click Close in the top right hand corner of the screen.

15. Your submission should now appear in the My Submissions page as shown below. A paper ID will be displayed and a date and time of submission will also be displayed. The Originality report (similarity) may take about 5 minutes to generate. If it is a re-submission, the report will take 24 hours to generate. You can also navigate back to the submission area to confirm submission.

NOTE: A copy of your Digital receipt will also be sent to your University email account.

If the assignment is set to allow resubmissions, follow the same steps to resubmit.
