JOHN LOGAN FULL BIOGRAPHY For over twenty five years John Logan has been a professional horn player working with many of the UK’s leading symphony orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bournemouth Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Under the Baton of Simon Rattle, he served five year tenure with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra before going on to serve seventeen years as Associate Principal Horn with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. During his time in the Royal Scottish National Orchestra John Logan became successful as an Education Animateur and had a special interest in the area of composition with some of his projects being shortlisted for Arts Business awards. In November 2011 he was appointed Head of Brass at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. John Logan’s conducting career began five years ago after studying conducting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Since then he has conducted both the Junior and Senior Orchestras of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Ulster Orchestra and has been employed as the regular conductor for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s annual St Andrews day concert with Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. JOHN LOGANFULL BIOGRAPHY

For over twenty five years John Logan has been a professional horn player working with many of the UK’s leading symphony orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bournemouth Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

John Logan’s conducting career began five years ago after studying conducting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Along with the orchestra, John has worked with many of Scotland’s finest traditional and folk musicians such as Eddie Reader, Karen Mathieson, Julie Fowlis, Barbara Dickson, Emily Smith and Dougie Maclean. John has also been involved with many projects that bring the world of rock and pop to the Symphony Orchestra. To date he has worked with ‘Admiral Fallow’, ‘The Twilight Sad’, ‘King Creosote’, ‘Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire’, ‘Capercallie’ and ‘Idlewild’.

As well as providing orchestral arrangements for this genre, his own composition, ‘Tiree’ has now been performed on many different occasions and recorded by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

In 2013 John was in charge of arranging music and conducting recording sessions for a commercial recording with Dougie Maclean, and in 2014 he was commissioned to write the music for a new short

film for Tripswitch productions called ‘Whistle My Lad’ featuring ‘Titanic’ star Euan Stuart. His arrangement of ‘Flower of Scotland’ was used for the medal ceremony at the 2014 Commonwealth games.
