the Read Aloud Gooseberry Park.
Ask me more nonfiction text features I learned about this week. Ask me how these features help a reader. I continue to look for and use text features to help me become an expert on a topic I am reading in a book so I can share my knowledge with others!
I continue to use post-it notes to capture ideas and to write I WONDER statements about the topic.
What are some topics you are an expert on from reading nonfiction books this week?
Ask me about the Reader’s Theater, The Ugly Pumpkin. What was my part? I am learning fluent readers read with expression, good tone of voice and adjust their voice depending on the size of the audience. Ask me which classes came to our Reader’s Theater.
Writer’s Workshop: Ask your child: As a nonfiction writer I can write Nonfiction Chapter Books, Stories
That Teach, How-To-Books and Question and Answer books. I am using mentor texts. I am finding books like those I want to
write and letting the authors of those books mentor me. I am trying to use text features like the table of contents, pictures
with captions, diagrams and labels, bold face words and a glossary in my nonfiction books.
I am rereading my writing to myself and my peers noticing the places where I can make my writing even better!
