Additional Travel Opportunities

For those who are interested in experiencing an insider view to a national caliber cycling competition, we will fund those who wish to attend collegiate road nationals in Asheville NC regardless of category, eligibility to race, etc. - contingent upon transportation availability.

We DO expect to have at least one racer, maybe three racers, competing.

You would bring a bike, come along on training rides leading up to the races, pre-ride on the race courses with your racing team members during open course time, spectate, cheer, celebrate, and make sure to be a good teammate.

You will NOT be expected to be a support person for racing members (this is for the fun and experience and seeing national races).

Additional Travel Opportunities

Atlantic Collegiate Cycling Conference (ACCC):

Weekend, pre-season race trip (Feb 21 – Feb 22)

There are no intro races, but still great for those of you who wish to get a practice race in before our season starts

If you have already attended a skills clinic, going here will allow you opt out of intro races for our season and go straight to D Category

USAC races will be available for non-collegiate racers

Race Season Conduct

DON’T SAY WE DIDN’T TELL YOU...

THE BIG WARNINGS!Mostly common sense warnings about respect for

other people and property. But, it’s good to be perfectly clear about expectations and consequences…

“Do the kind thing and do it first” - Sir William Osler

Travel and Race Season Conduct

All team members, as representatives of the team and University, are expected to follow local traffic laws and conduct him or herself with the utmost respect to pedestrians, drivers, law enforcement, and other riders.

In races, racers shall abide by race rules given at the start of each race, as well as behaving in a manner with which to represent the team well.

Racers shall not: - harm other racers - damage another's property - steal - curse- wear explicit or profane clothing or logos - harass other racers or race officials- use equipment without explicit permission -NO ALCOHOL on race weekends/team events

During all travel to and from races, team members are expected to conduct themselves courteously and in a manner which reflects well on the team at all times.

Poor behavior or misconduct while on team travel, or while wearing team apparel, will be addressed by remediation, suspension from all or part of a season, or dismissal from the team & Collegiate Cycling.

- Racers will ask prior and obtain explicit permission to move or use a teammate’s property- Borrowed property is the responsibility of the borrower to maintain in original condition.- All team members are expected to have personal property insurance available through Yale University.

Caution: Respect team and teammates’ property as if it were your own. Cycling is an expensive sport. When in doubt, do NOT touch other people’s things. Knocking over somebody’s bike, even by accident, could ruin a race weekend or season and cost A LOT of time and money to replace. Be careful of where you are, and what’s around you.

Reckless damage to team property or a team member’s property will result in suspension from racing until the time at which property of the team/teammate has been replaced or the Yale property insurance copay has been paid (100$ standard copay).

Uninsured property greater than the insurance copayment is not expected to be replaced at full cost. It is the responsibility of all members to insure equipment.

During suspension, a member is not permitted to race or travel with the team. Members not in good standing are not permitted to race in USAC Collegiate races, as per the USAC rulebook.

Protect Your Property, Respect Another’s

deductables

Sexual MisconductYale Cycling, as a participating team of the ECCC and USA Cycling, does not tolerate sexual misconduct. Sexual misconduct is any misconduct (continued or isolated) deemed to have a sexual tone. Verbal or physical

conduct of a sexual nature, unwelcome sexual advances and requests for sexual favors are considered sexual misconduct.

Perpetrators and victims of sexual misconduct can be men or women. However, given that cycling is a sport dominated by men, women may be especially vulnerable. Yale Cycling prides itself on having a highly gender diverse team, and we wish to maintain a safe and active riding experience for people of all genders, providing men and women a safe and welcoming environment for developing as racers advancing their cycling goals.

Examples of sexual misconduct include:· Touching or grabbing of a sexual nature· Verbal or written sexually charged remarks· Making sexually suggestive gestures· Repeatedly making advances at a person when the person has indicated that they are not interested· Barring of individuals from team-held rides, events, or races due to gender or sexuality (except for women’s team events…

no men’s racers allowed!)

But, we are all of dating age. How do I flirt with that cute person on the team?- Keep your hands to yourself till you’ve asked permission.- Seek reciprocation. Reality check, is it just in your head?- Clearly ask questions to confirm if your advances are ok, ie “Would you like to go out on a

date sometime?” or “Would it be alright if I asked you out sometime?”

If somebody is having a bad day, instead of hugging them, ask, “Can I give you a hug?”. etc.

But, we are all in spandex and we need to pin numbers and get ready for our races!- Keep your hands to yourself till you have consent for touching- ask, “Do you need help with your skinsuit/pinning numbers?”- if instructing or demonstrating form related technique, ask “ is it ok if I touch you to

demonstrate this correct hip angle?” etc.- Never pin numbers or touch somebody else unless you are asked to.

Ask Before You Touch
