TWO TYPES OF SENTENCES

1.STARTED WITH WH- WORD

What is your name ?

Where do you live?

2. STARTED WITH HELPING VERBS

Do you know his name?

May I take your pen ?

CHANGE OF SENTENCES STARTING WITH HELPING VERBS

Use the reporting verb ‘asked’. Begin the reported speech with the

connecter ‘if’ or ‘whether’. Shift the helping verb after the subject to

make the sentence simple. Rest changes are as it is.

EXAMPLES-

He said to me, “Do you know my name”?

He asked me if I knew his name.

D- I said to him, “Can I take your pen”.? IN- I asked him if I could take his pen.

D- The teacher said to me, “Have you completed the work?” IN- The teacher asked me if I had completed the work. D- He said to me , “Do you know my name?” IN - He asked me if I knew his name.

D- She said to me , “Will you come in this morning”? IN- She asked me if I would come in that morning

Sentences started with wh-words

Points-no conjunction is used .-wh word acts as conjunctionEXAMPLES1.Teacher said to the students , “what do you want?”The teacher asked the students what they wanted.2.Mr Prasad said ,“how much did you pay for this picture.Mr Prasad asked how much he had paid for that picture.

IMPERATIVE SENTENCES

Points:--Reported verb is changed into ordered , advised , requested , forbade etc.-Conjunction ‘TO’ is used

Examples:-1.Teacher said to the students , “open your books” Teacher ordered the students to open their books2.The doctor said to the patients , “take the medicines properly the doctor advised the patients to take the medicines properly3.The monitor said to the boys , “do not make a noise. The monitor forbade the boys to make a noise.4.A boy said to his father , “please give me this paper. A boy requested his father to give him that paper.
