The journey follows mainly the tourist road of the medieval villages over very nice beautiful roads with turnings that makes it the happiness for bikers. The crossing of the forest of Grésigne on a slope constitutes a healthy option for sport motorbikes. To do : Loop of the visit of the town (free leaflet) - the walk of the path of the heritage.

Treats : Medieval biscuits - fruit juice of the orchard Conservatory - Gaillac wines.

To reach the village, by the roundabout on the left (Tourist office). Parking very regulated during the season, but easyier for motorbikes.

Come back down the D 964 and turn right to follow the valley of the Vère which takes a look of the canyons, via Larroque (country pub).

LARROQUE

Built all along the tanned cliffs which have already served as homes during the prehistory and of shelters during the conflits and the wars, Larroque offers a remarkable architectural harmony.Continue on the D 964 with beautiful turnings, go through St Martin d’Urbens, chapel with bell tower- wall,15 th century.

Still on the D 964 until a junction follow the sign and go up to the village of Bruniquel (Tarn-et-Garonne).

BRUNIQUEL

Occupied during the Paleolithic, Bruniquel ancient stronghold on the doors of the Quercy has two castles and an old town remarkably conserved.To discover : The castles - the old-town.

• OPTION fOR sPORT mOTORBIkEs : From Puycelci come down until the roundabout and follow the D 8 by coming up. The little sinuous road turns in a forestial sloap after a living.

At the sign for walkers in front of a big meadow follow on the right to go through the forest of Grésigne by going down until the hamlet La Baraque.

Take on the left D 87 and follow it still by coming down, beautiful view of the canyons of the Aveyron to join the valley of the Aveyron and Bruniquel.Beware of the stone-pit, frequent lorries.

Go down Bruniquel and join the D 115, turn on the right ( junction Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val ) to follow the Aveyron river and the canyons. Very nice road with long turnings.

Go through a tunnel and at the intersection with the D 133, turn right to go up at 1km until Penne.

PENNE

Dominated by its feudal castle, citadel of the dizziness, Penne was well known by its history. Penne is a village where it’s good to browse in the lanes. The castle private property is to be visited in family.To discover : Church Saint-Catherine - the village.

To do : The visit of the fortress castle.

Treats : Goat cheeses.Go through the village ( narrow road).

Alternation of beautiful large roads with long turnings, rolling and small sinuous roads in the forrestrial mountains. Slope is not recommended to big motorbikes. Because of the big displacements and roads. In the forest of Grésigne the prey is abundant, (deers, boars, roes) be carefull of the morning schedules and late hours of the day.The parking in the medieval villages is very regulated, particularly during the season, but there is in general the possibility of going up to the top of the villages with motorbikes, if the number is not very important.Not many petrol stations less frequent only in the towns and large market towns.

Practical informations :

Founded in 972, Gaillac is the capital city of the vineyard of the same name. The town of bricks has preserved its heritage, square of arcades, abbey, and medieval neighbourhoods, castle… and deserves the label “the most beautiful detour of France”. The house of the Gaillac wines is the first step for the discovery of the vineyard and of its producers.To discover : The neighborhood of the Portanelle - Abbey of Saint Michel - the square of the Griffoul - the park and castle of Foucaud - the mansion of Pierre de Brens - the Saint Pierre church.To do : Loop visit of the town (free leaflet) - the Museum of the Abbey of the Vineyard and of the Wine - Museum of the Beaux Arts - Museum of the Natural History.Treats : Wines of Gaillac.

Leave Gaillac by the D 964 (Caussade junction). The long straight line leads towards the hills of the vinayards and on the stream with little small wood oaks, beautiful view over the Gaillac region.

Follow the D 964 ( junction of Castelnau-de-Montmirail). Before arriving in the village, beware of the turnings bordered of plane trees.

CAsTELNAU-DE-mONTmIRAL

Founded in 1222 by the Count of Toulouse, the village still has its splendid square of arcades, its battlements, and one of the doors of the town. The church hides a treasure, a reliquary geminated cross. Castelnau is ranked one of “The most beautiful village of France”.To discover : The square - the lanes - the church Notre Dame of the Assumption - the reliquary cross - the battlements - the gazebo - the leasure park of Vère-Grésigne.To do : Loop visit of the town (free leaflet) - the market (tuesday mornings).Treats : Foie Gras - duck fillet - meat preserves - Wines of Gaillac.

At the roundabout follow the D 964, with a big sinuous sloap by the side of the hill, view over the scenary of the hills, with fields, wood and vineyards.

Continue still on the D 964, very nice road with beautiful turnings, views over the forest of Sivens and of the Grésigne. Then a large valley borded of fields, roads with splendid turnings, 70 km / hour by the passage of the homes.

Then take on the right the D 8. Caution intersection behind a turning to arrive in Puycelci.

PUYCELsI

Nest hung up around the church of Saint-Corneille and of an abbey which is no longer there nowadays, Puycelci is still protected by its powerfull battlements. Puycelci ranked one of “The most beautiful Village of France” is in the doors of the domanial forest of the Grésigne.To discover : the square - the lanes - the church of Saint Corneille - the chapel of Saint Roch - the battlements - the orchard of the regional Conservatory (900 species protected).

At the exit take the D 133 ( junction of Vaour ) on the right, little road which goes down.

At the intersection turn right D 33 junction of Vaour and Cordes sur Ciel , little sinuous road, sometimes close turnings until the intersection with the D15 ( breeding of lamas on the right ).

Turn left (junction Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val) and join in after a close turning the village of Vaour.

VAOUR

Old location of a powerful templar commandery, Vaour has become over the course of the years the templar of laugh because of its famous festival during the summer.To discover : The dolmen of Peyro Levado - the commandery of the templars.To do : « On the paths of the templars » 8 short loops to do in family - festival “The Summer of Vaour”.

Cross the village and follow straight on the junction of Saint-Antonin, beautiful way down until the Dolmen with a beautiful view of the valley of the Aveyron.

Turn right D 91 ( junction of Cordes sur Ciel ). Sinuous road through the forest of oak. On the pitch of Tonnac there is a beautiful view of Cordes sur Ciel and the Gaillac region.

Before the arrival at the D 600 turning at the left angle and a passageway under the railway track.

Turn right to go through Vindrac ( 30 km / hour ).Aquatic space Le Garissou.

Continue until « Les Cabannes » and follow straight on until Cordes sur Ciel.

CORDEs sUR CIEL

Very first one of the medieval « Bastides » (fortified towns) in the South West, Cordes was built during the Crusade in 1222. Cordes was protected by its 5 battlements and fortified doors. On the top the gothical palaces,medieval lanes, the numerous art craftsman make it for all these reasons the one unic medieval city.To discover : The gothical houses of the Great Falconer, of the Great Hunter - the doors - the battlements - the hall - the square of the Bride - the church of Saint Michel - the arts and the crafts.To do : The Museum of Charles Portal - the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art - the Gardens of the Paradis - Historama - the Museum of the Art of Sugar and Chocolate - the Gaudanne. Parking regulated (possibility of climbing up by motorbikes).Treats : The crisps of Cordes.

Leave Cordes sur Ciel, junction Albi by the D 600, very beautiful road and in the risen view over the village of Cordes sur Ciel.

Go through the salver and start the way down towards Albi. Before the way down with big turnings, view over Albi dominated by the Cathedral.

Before arriving in Albi, in a turning in hairpin turn on the right and follow a beautiful road on the side of the hills view over Albi and the Gaillac region to join Castelnau-de-Levis.

The medieval city built during the 13 t h century by Sicard d’Alaman, is known by its remains of the feudal castle accessible to the public and by its high tour of 27 metres.To discover : The castle - the church of Saint Bartelemy - the old village - the annual championship of the cross country motorbikes.

Go through the village, ( 30 km / hour, be careful of the slabs ) and continue on the D 18. To discover : The church of Carla - the village of Labastide- de-Levis ( 3 km ) the typical pigeon houses of the Gaillac region.Treats : Wines of Gaillac.

At the intersection turn left.

Cross the Tarn to arrive in marssac.

mARssAC

To discover : The church of Saint Orens.Go on the traffic lights on the right, and cross the level crossing,

turn right, at the D 13 ( Lagrave junction ). Follow the little road in the large valley of the Tarn until Lagrave.

LAGRAVE

To discover : The dam on the Tarn.To do : The archeocrypte of Sainte-Sigolène.

Continue on the D 13 ( Gaillac junction ) with the vineyards of the lowland. Possibillity to do a break in the leisure park of Aiguelèze (swimming and nautical activities).

Continue until the village of Brens and turn right to go through the Tarn and join Gaillac.
