Deborah Sampson• During the Revolutionary War, Deborah Sampson wanted to help. • Women and girls weren’t enlisted in the war. • Decided to dress as a man to join the war. • Became an enlisted man under the name of Robert Shurtleff. • ‘Robert’ became wounded in a battle and a doctor later discovered he was a woman • Deborah was a great help to the army and was very brave.

George Roger Clark was General from ( 1752-1818). During the war Clark worked to protect Kentucky and the Frontier settlements form the British army. He went on to be chosen to be Lieutenant-colonel. He then went on to capture Kaskaskia and Vincennes from the British army, but after they captured the British recaptured it and then Clark recaptured it.

In late May, 1776, George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross asked Betsy Ross to sew the first flag.

On June 14, 1777 the Continental congress adopted the national flag.

The flag she made had thirteen stripes alternating red and white,And thirteen white stars on a blue field

He was discharged as a captain in the Persian army and a year later he received his title (baron). He trained a model company of 100 men at Valley Forge. He introduced a new way to train solders by putting them threw a sort of military school which they didn’t have

back them instead of putting them in to their troops without training.

During the Revolutionary War she wanted to help, but women weren’t allowed to join the army. Deborah decided to pretend to be a man to be able to join the army. She practiced walking and talking like a man until she could even fool her mom. She decided she was ready so she enlisted in that army as Robert Shurtleff.“Robert” was a good, brave soldier and volunteered for dangerous jobs. Deborah eventually came the aide or personal helper of the general.

• She was the women who inspired the colonies by designing and sewing the first American flag

Friedrich von SteubenFriedrich von Steuben was a German General with George Washington for the Americans at Valley Forge. He helped train the troops to march and drill. His training helped the Continentals how to fight with new skills. By 1778, his army was much more powerful. Their weakest hour had finally passed.

For her heroic role General Washington made Mary, Sergeant Mary. She tended to wounded soldiers and

picked up a crippled man up on her back and carried him back to camp. She also got the cannons ready to fire for the colonists. She was a girl that fought and took care of soldiers in the American Revolution. Was 79 when she

died.

• 1748-1779• From Poland• He Met Ben Franklin in Paris

and was convinced to support the colonies against England in the American revolution

• Ben Franklin wrote back to George Washington telling him that Casimir was an officer who was known for the courage he gave in defense for his countries freedom

• Pulaski was ordered to defend Little Egg Harbor (New Jersey)

• In 1778, Pulaski was put at the head of the cavalry that was established by the congress

• In 1777, At the Battle of Savannah, General Pulaski was wounded by a cannon

• It is said that the enemies were so impressed with Pulaski's bravery when he was wounded that they let him get carried off the battle field and they spared his life

• That was the cause of his death two days later on October 11, 1779
