Welcome All and Happy Holidays! The title of tonight’s concert is a tribute to a life transformed by the spirit of Christmas and refers to Scrooge’s moment of transformation in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, as he declares,

Camille Metoyer Moten didn’t think twice about calling her holiday concert Christmas In My Heart . The title connects Scrooge’s journey with her own, one which led to a profound faith, a remarkable, loving family, and a deep connection to community . The Omaha Community Playhouse is proud of its long and rewarding association with Camille, who generously stepped forward to present this concert when the season was upended by the pandemic .

Camille has a legion of fans throughout Omaha, many of whom consider her a personal friend as well as a gifted, intuitive vocalist and performer . When asked about putting this show together, she said, “I love this because it’s about Jesus .” Though we each have our own beliefs and express them in our own way, we can’t help but benefit from witnessing Camille’s personal faith, which (as someone who has known her for more than 30 years) is unmistakable and unshakable .

Camille is joined each week by a special guest, each with his or her significant talents and shared bond . During the first weekend she’s joined by actor and radio personality Dave Wingert who’s known Camille since the ‘80’s and shared stages with her many times . Week two brings actor, singer and teacher John Morrissey, who played Juan Peron to her Evita in Camille’s very first show at the Omaha Playhouse . Week three, Camille’s guest is Paul Tranisi, a life-long friend and theatre pal since high school, who was a favorite of Playhouse audiences in such shows as Camelot and Fiddler On The Roof. Singer, actor, and director Kathy Tyree, one of Omaha’s great treasures, will pair with Camille for the final weekend . The two first became friends years ago in a production of Sophisticated Ladies in this very theatre . And, at every performance, Camille will share the stage for a brief moment with the voice of her talented sister, the wonderful actress Lanette Moore .

With composer and music director David Murphy at the piano, Joey Guilizia, a virtuoso of percussion, and the accomplished Mark Haar on bass—I’d say you’re in excellent hands tonight .

My very best wishes to each of you for your health, safety, and your capacity for joy during this holiday season . Peace .

    Susan Baer Collins Director

“I shall honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year.”

  • A NOTE TO OUR PATRONS2020 has been a challenging year for many people and many organizations

—OCP is no exception . As we reprogrammed our season due to COVID-19, and our deficit grew from canceled shows and reduced capacities, Camille Metoyer Moten continued to ask how she could help . We worked through a few ideas, but none seemed as perfect as a holiday show featuring Camille, her band and her friends . I can’t think of a better way to usher in the holidays than listening to Camille’s soaring and soulful renditions of classic and contemporary Christmas songs . I was so pleased that some of my favorites made it into the set list!

By purchasing a ticket to this show—either in-person or streaming—you are supporting OCP . If you would like to take your support a step further, please consider making a donation . You can visit omahaplayhouse .com and click donate at the top of the page or call 402-661-8532 or mail a donation to the Playhouse . Your gift will be tax deductible and will help OCP tremendously .

I hope the holidays are filled with love and joy for you and yours . I am looking forward to a quiet holiday break with my family, including my 6-month-old daughter and 2-year-old son . After this respite, I am excited to create and enjoy meaningful theatre experiences with and for the community in 2021 .

Thank you for joining us and happy holidays!
