Protesting students said that KU authorities had assured them that after the Engineering College at Zakura was constructed, they would be shifted there. “Now the campus at Zakura is operational and even students from other branches of engineering courses pursuing their stud- ies at KU were shifted to the college but we have been left out,” said the protesters. They alleged that security per- sonnel misbehaved with female students on Monday when they were making pleas for calling on Vice Chancellor in his office at Kashmir University. “We were refused an appointment with VC to apprise him about our griev- ance and demand,” they added. “In 2009 when KU started B Tech course in Computer Sci- ence, the students were asked to join at North Campus due to dearth of infrastructure at the main campus and only one branch of engineering students were accommodated at the main campus. We have to travel long distances daily to reach North Campus and meanwhile face plenty of problems. The labs in the campus are not updated and lack of infrastructure and equipments is taking toll on our academics,” they said. Threatening to intensify their agitation, they demand- ed shifting of their classes to newly operational engineer- ing college at Zakura. Earlier, students had staged protest demonstrations at Kashmir University outside VC’s secretariat, amid slogans. Kashmir University Vice Chancellor Prof A M Shah said that the Zakura campus is for new programmes. “We have facilities for the new programmes (admissions). It is not possible to shift the students of 4th or 5th semes- ter from North Campus to Zakoora,” he said. Asked about complaint of students that they were not allowed to call on him, “They met me in my office and I explained to them that it was not possible to meet their demand right now,” he said. PIC: MUBASHIR KHAN/GK Sending ‘land grabbers, ration thiefs’ PDP desecrated Martyrs’ graveyard: NC GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar July 14: Lashing out at PDP for sending “land-grabbers, ration thieves, turn-coats and ex-Ikhwanis to desecrate the sacred soil of the Martyrs’ graveyard, National Conference Monday termed PDP MP Tariq Hameed Karra a glorified ‘land- shark’ who lacks parliamentary grace and ethical credentials to represent historic and culturally rich Srinagar city. NC spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu in a statement here alleged Karra has been extremely unnerved by being exposed as ‘fraud, conman and land-shark’ who wants to render dozens of families homeless to sati- ate his lust for undeserved wealth by invent- ing completely unconnected ‘ancestors’ and grabbing land that he has no legal claim on. “Karra’s audacity to talk about politi- cal trade-offs was a brazen hypocrisy as he is following a person who has made record number of political trade-offs with the State’s regional autonomy, character and dignity in his career,” he said. “Some- one should wake Karra up from his politi- cal delirium and remind him that Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has not only been instrumental in eroding Article 370 but has also been involved in toppling more democratically elected governments in J&K than those he has been a part of.” He said Karra has no right to talk about the interests of the State given that his own family and uncle, G M Sadiq was instrumen- tal in eroding Article 370 and changing the nomenclature and stature from Prime Min- ister to Chief Minister on the instructions of his patrons and lords in Delhi at that time. He said Karra should make a reality- check trip - both literally and metaphorical- ly - and visit those places and blood soaked lanes of Kashmir which were drenched in the blood of innocents by none other than Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. ”PDP had des- ecrated the historic and sacrosanct Mar- tyrs’ graveyard by sending a delegation of ration-thieves, land-grabbers, ex-Ikhwanis and extortionists to demean and desecrate our martyrs’ sacrifices - who are valiant heroes and laid down their lives for a life of dignity for their people,” Mattu blurted. He said Karra had uttered lies and dis- torted version of history about Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah without owning the guilt that his party patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed was complicit in the assassination of Shaheed Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq and was responsible for ordering troops to open fire on his funeral procession that resulted in the death of 73 innocent Kashmiris. “Does Karra have an answer for why Mufti Sayeed first refused security to Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq and then once he was assassinated, he didn’t even have the humanity to spare his mourners? Or is that a ‘political tradeoff’ that Karra has already made with his conscience in order to toe Mufti Sayeed’s line?” Mattu asked. He said height of irony is that Karra is terming NC a party of turncoats. “He is either day-dreaming or is unnerved by the expose of land-grabbing against him. Isn’t it a fact that Karra was conspiring to split PDP into half months before the Par- liament election? Isn’t it a fact that Karra had repeatedly approached NC to join the party?” Mattu asked. “Isn’t it a fact that Karra had submit- ted a written application to the State Con- gress Chief addressed to Sonia Gandhi that he wanted to join Congress just months prior to the Parliament election? Isn’t it a fact that PDP is a coalition of individuals who have come from every single possible political party in the State?” Stating that Karra was the master king- pin of ‘loot and plunder’ in the State during his tenure as the Finance Minister, the NC spokesman said Karra’s indictment in the Kundal Committee Report was just one of the proofs of his tendencies of corruption, embezzlement and misappropriation. “How does Karra have the nerve to talk about the interests of this State when he was Mufti Sayeed’s designated engineer of mass corruption and embezzlement,” Mattu asked.
