July 22, 2014 ~ Volume 68 ~ Issue 29 Pastor’s Notes: Marinating, that is what my sermons of late have been about. How we can marinate ourselves with the love of God in order to take on the flavor, texture and aroma of God? I have always been a fan of marinating in its different forms. Like most people when I think of marinating I think of meat and the various rubs that one can put on them or a mixture of different kinds of spices and oils that meat can be soaked in prior to cooking. But marinating can occur in other ways as well. Like lasagna. I think we all agree that lasagna is one of those dishes that gets better each day it sets in the fridge. I wonder if this is because all the juices continue to work into each other creating a new kind of flavor. As you think about how lasagna is made there are several ingredients. Pasta, tomato sauce, spices, possibly hamburger or sausage, ricotta cheese as well as other types of cheese. Each ingredient has its own flavor but when they are cooked and allowed to steep or marinate they create a new flavor all of its own. But what would happen if all the ingredients of lasagna were put together then put in the refrigerator? Not much would change really. Each item would retain its own flavor and maybe have a unique taste as a whole but not a very good taste. What does it take to blend the flavors together? Effort and heat. Putting the dish in the oven is the effort and then allowing them to be exposed to the heat is what marinates them all together to form something new. The same is true in our lives with God. To be renewed in Christ. What a wonderful, flavorful thing this is. Pleasing to God and producing within us love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. There is no better marinating process and what it produces that what the Creator of the Universe has for those who love Him. Bring on God and bring on the heat! In much love, Pastor Darrel

The Great Expectations Pizza and Movie Night was a success…We had a total of 22 for the evening. We would like to thank our 2 special guests for the evening: Norma Hermreck and Christie Hermreck. Following a meal and snacks a plenty of 7 Pizza’s, 2 Salads, drinks, brownies, ice cream, popcorn and much much more the class snuggled in their recliners or comfy chairs and blankets and watched “Heaven is for Real.” This is a story of how a young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven. Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us. Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle. This is a must see if you are looking for a good Christian movie.

Volunteer Spotlight

Sponsor a Child to Camp! God has blessed us with a group of students that way exceeds anything we have had for many years. Last year we took 99 students to HHCC; making FCC the largest student sending church of 42 churches. With the cost of camp rising each year many students are faced with the the burden of a price they cannot afford. Thankfully FCC covers the cost for every student who wants to attend. Because of so many students attending, the finance committee and church board have asked me to get some help with the camp bill! If there are people who would be willing to sponsor a student to camp it would be greatly appreciated. These are the camp costs for 2015: Overnighter (1-2nd Grade)-$35, Get Acquainted (3rd Grade) - $50.00, Junior 2 (4th-6th Grade) - $110.00, Junior High 2 (6th -9th Grade) - $125.00, High school (9th-12th Grade) - $125.00. This is a ministry that will change our student’s lives for Jesus sake! Please support this hugely valuable ministry. Blessings, FCC Board

Kaitlyn McClain is the daughter of Wes and Kathy McClain! She has a huge heart and loves hanging out at Roots! Kaitlyn has also joined the Roots Verse Club. She always has a great attitude a BIG SMILE! Kaitlyn we are so glad to have you be a part of our Roots Family!

Morgan Hurt is in the spotlight! Morgan has volunteered for 6 years now. She serves as the office organizer for Roots, has a great responsibility being a mom for Legacy Youth Church and serves anywhere in the church where there is a need with our youth! Morgan thanks so much for serving our youth! You are a real blessing!!!
