You need to bring a picnic dinner, picnic rug and be prepared for a bit of fun. There will be events for children and parents including a lolly scramble for the children in each syndicate. Parents, dust off your trainers as there will be some fun games and the traditional “Tug Of War” vs the Mighty Wellsford Teachers as well as a race for the mums and the dads. We hope that you can join us and make it a really great evening for all involved!! IMPORTANT: As this event is outside of normal school hours all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please note this is not a drop-off event, any unsupervised children will have to be sent home for safety reasons. We would love to enjoy your company as well as your child’s. Nga mihi, Teck Wee, Y7/8 Teacher We have changed the eating times To support improved engagement in learning, a more positive playground, and for ease of behavior management we have decided to change the eating times of the students. Instead of morning tea eating, and lunch eating, being at the beginning of the break times, we are eating at the end of the break time. We see several advantages in this…. 1. The children are usually in a hurry to get into the playground to play, and many, especially the younger ones, often skip their eating, to rush out to play. This will minimize that. 2. Children often return to class after playing in a very boisterous fashion, and need some time to settle before learning can resume. This approach allows for a ‘settle down time’ which doesn’t interrupt the normal learning time. 3. Occasionally there is a squabble in the playground that teachers need to help resolve. Dealing with these often delays the start of teaching programmes after a break. Eating at the end of the break time, frees up the teacher to resolve these little squabbles without delaying the resumption of learning. The one main disadvantage of this plan is that it delays the eating times a little, meaning the children are hungrier than normal. Please help with this by encouraging them to eat a bigger breakfast, or by packing an extra sandwich in the lunchbox for eating at interval. Thanks. To also help with this some Team 2 teachers are considering having a ‘brain break’ at about 10:00, like Team 1 do. Please pack a piece of fruit in their lunch box for them to eat during ‘brain break.’ POWHIRI New students and their families are invited to attend a Powhiri in the Wellsford School Hall on Tuesday 12 February. Guests are asked to meet in Room 16 prior to going to the hall. Regards, Dave Bradley, Principal There will be no pies each Friday until further notice Volunteers are needed to help process the pie orders. If you can help please notify the school office on 423 8042. A roster system can be organised if we have enough helpers so that any one person does not have the responsibility every week. We will let parents/caregivers know if and when the pie orders resume, but in the meantime please ensure your child brings lunch from home, every Friday. Thank you.

We have changed the eating times To support improved engagement in learning, a more positive playground,

and for ease of behavior management we have decided to change the eating

times of the students. Instead of morning tea eating, and lunch eating, being

at the beginning of the break times, we are eating at the end of the break time.

We see several advantages in this….

1. The children are usually in a hurry to get into the playground to play, and many, especially the younger ones,

often skip their eating, to rush out to play. This will minimize that.

2. Children often return to class after playing in a very boisterous fashion, and need some time to settle before

learning can resume. This approach allows for a ‘settle down time’ which doesn’t interrupt the normal learning

time.

3. Occasionally there is a squabble in the playground that teachers need to help resolve. Dealing with these often

delays the start of teaching programmes after a break. Eating at the end of the break time, frees up the teacher to

resolve these little squabbles without delaying the resumption of learning.

The one main disadvantage of this plan is that it delays the eating times a little, meaning the children are hungrier

than normal. Please help with this by encouraging them to eat a bigger breakfast, or by packing an extra sandwich in

the lunchbox for eating at interval. Thanks. To also help with this some Team 2 teachers are considering having a

‘brain break’ at about 10:00, like Team 1 do. Please pack a piece of fruit in their lunch box for them to eat during

‘brain break.’
