2 Introduction Vertebral augmentation and vertebroplasty devices are non-surgical treatment options used for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures. The two procedures are usually performed in outpatient settings. The procedures are used for patients suffering from vertebral compression fractures for which conventional therapies such as rest, back bracing or drug-based therapies have not been effective. For such patients, vertebral augmentation and vertebroplasty devices offer an alternative to invasive surgical options.
