The past year was certainly a testament to these adages – we had roughly 30% more animals cross over our doorstep (both cats and dogs) than usual; the shelter was afflicted with a contagious feline virus that caused us to close to the public and suspend adoptions for several weeks to conduct a massive sanitation process; and as you will see in the Financial Report in this newsletter, our donated income could not keep up with our expenses. President’s Note:

There pretty much is a guarantee you can count on when working with animals,

children, and many other charitable efforts: “It’s not going to be easy” – but the

other guarantee that we volunteers at The Redwood Coast Humane Society can

count on is that: “It’s going to be worth it”. The past year was certainly a

testament to these adages – we had roughly 30% more animals cross over

our doorstep (both cats and dogs) than usual; the shelter was afflicted with a

contagious feline virus that caused us to close to the public and suspend

adoptions for several weeks to conduct a massive sanitation process; and as you

will see in the Financial Report in this newsletter, our donated income could not

keep up with our expenses. But, was it worth it? Absolutely!! Approximately 75

pets found new homes and the same number of low income families received

financial assistance in the spay/neutering of their pets.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Please join the Redwood Coast Humane Society’s team of volunteers. There are many ways to help

animals in need. Volunteers are always welcome to work directly with the animals, but also to help

with so many other activities that help to make us successful. Maybe you would be interested in car-

ing for cats in the shelter, tending to the garden, fostering a dog or cat, taking on a small construction

project, walking a dog, taking an animal to the vet, cleaning Jake’s Place, taking pictures, snuggling

with a cat, doing laundry, helping with a fundraising event, answering phones, trapping feral cats,

selling raffle tickets, shopping for supplies, picking up an animal in need, decorating a Christmas

tree, socializing puppies or kittens, wrapping presents, baking goodies and the list goes on and

on…

Adoption applications are available on our website www.redwoodcoasthumane.org or at “Jake’s

Place” our shelter, adoption center, garden and shop at 39151 S. Hwy 1 in Gualala. Call 707-884-
