Building a strong foundation of high frequency words (sight words) is crucial to your child’s success in reading. It is not unusual to have students who are already reading words when they enter kindergarten For those parents of children who are early readers, you might like to take a look at the following groups of words which are made up of the most frequently used sight words (Dolch Word List of 220 words). Many early reading materials will be comprised of the words which are from both the Pre-primer level and the Primer level. If your child is able to read the words from the Pre-primer level, please continue to help your child review the successive levels in order to strengthen your child’s visual recall of these important sight words. Try this idea! Circle each word which your child is able to read without assistance. Next, you might want to make a set of flashcards for the words which your child needs to review. You can play a game where your child keeps the cards which he/she is able to read correctly, and you keep the cards which were difficult for your child to read.
