UNSW-Indonesia Seed Research Fund 2017 APPLICATION FORM: SEED GRANTS In order to strengthen research collaboration and deepen relationships with Indonesia, UNSW has setup a seed research fund. The fund will be used to provide seed grants that identify, promote and encourage opportunities for collaborative research and development in areas of common interest between UNSW researchers and their partners at higher education institutions in Indonesia. SEED GRANT FUNDING AND PURPOSE The purpose of the seed grant is to establish (or further) a joint research collaboration leading to long term collaboration beyond the scope of the seed project. Expected Outcomes At least 2 reciprocal visits for staff and/or students to be conducted within the duration of the funding period (ie UNSW will provide funding for staff and/or students to travel at least twice to Indonesia and/or Indonesian staff/students to travel to UNSW). Submission of at least one joint co-authored publication. Targeting a suitable scheme for the submission of a joint application for external research funding. Funding Grants of up to $10,000 per annum may be awarded for a duration of 12 months Seed grants may be renewed for one further period of 12 months subject to performance in fulfilling the objectives of the scheme. A progress report will be required 11 months after receipt of funding providing evidence of outcomes to date and expenditure against the awarded amount. Other eligibility requirements: UNSW CIs must be salaried staff of UNSW Indonesian CIs must be employed at an Indonesian Higher Education Institution UNSW Early Career Researcher is defined as “A postdoctoral research fellow or equivalent

within 5 years of obtaining PhD”

APPLICATION AND ASSESSMENT PROCESSIndividuals or teams of researchers with one lead researcher from each institution should submit an application on the provided application form by the due date. Applications will be assessed by a Selection Committee led by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research Training).

Applications are open to all academic staff from all faculties at UNSW in the following theme areas: Law, Economics and Social Sciences Public Health and Policy Sustainability and the Built Environment

Selection criteria:a) Quality, expected outcomes and impact of proposed research collaborationb) Strength of research team relative to opportunityc) Alignment of proposal with purpose and expected outcomes of the fundd) Strength of previous / existing collaborative activities

Key Dates Applications close: 5pm, Monday 31 October 2016Announcements: Successful applicants will be notified in November 2016 for grants to

commence from 1 January 2017
