Domestic Product: $53.162 billion (2014) Jobs: At least 70% of the
population still works in agriculture. Though Cameroons economy has
been growing steadily, jobs in the formal sectors are hard to find
and unemployment is high. Even when people have work, average wages
are low and the working week is normally over 50 hours, with one
day off. The minimum legal age for employment is 14 years. But in
rural areas, it is common for young children to work on family
farms.

HISTORY The earliest inhabitants of Cameroon were probably the
Baka (Pygmies). They still inhabit the forests of the south and
east provinces. Bantu speakers originating in the Cameroonian
highlands were among the first groups to move out before other
invaders. The Mandara kingdom in the Mandara Mountains was founded
around 1500 and erected magnificent fortified structures, the
purpose and exact history of which are still unresolved. The Aro
Confederacy of Nigeria may have had presence in western (later
called British) Cameroon due to migration in the 18th and 19th
centuries. Beginning on July 5, 1884, all of present-day Cameroon
and parts of several of its neighbours became a German colony,
Kamerun, with a capital first at Buea and later at Yaound.

Epiphany Falls on January 6, is a Christian feast day that
celebrates the revelation of God, the Son, as a human being in
Jesus Christ. Western Christians commemorate principally (but not
solely) the visit of the Magi to the Baby Jesus, and thus Jesus'
physical manifestation to the Gentiles. Eastern Christians
commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his
manifestation to the world as the Son of God.

Values, Beliefs, Norms The family is still the basis of the
social structure. The extended family is the norm and relatives
remain quite close with both the mother and the fathers sides. The
family provides its members with a social network and assistance in
times of need. Croatians will take in elderly parents rather than
send them to a nursing home. The weekends are considered family
time. Direct and straightforward talk is valued in Croatia, however
there is also an emphasis on choosing your words correctly and
being diplomatic so as not to cause upset

History Croatia, at one time the Roman province of Pannonia,
was settled in the 7th century by the Croats. They converted to
Christianity between the 7th and 9th centuries and adopted the
Roman alphabet under the suzerainty of Charlemagne. In 925, the
Croats defeated Byzantine and Frankish invaders and established
their own independent kingdom, which reached its peak during the
11th century. A civil war ensued in 1089, which later led to the
country being conquered by the Hungarians in 1091. The signing of
the Pacta Conventa by Croatian tribal chiefs and the Hungarian king
in 1102 united the two nations politically under the Hungarian
monarch, but Croatia retained its autonomy. In 1990, free elections
were held, and the Communists were defeated by a nationalist party
led by Franjo Tudjman.
Slide 20
Conflict During World War II, Croats joined the Nazis in
exterminating Serbs and others. The Serbs took up arms -- and
hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians were killed on both
sides. Josip Broz Tito, a partisan leader, led the resistance
against the Nazis, ultimately driving them from Yugoslavia. In June
of 1991, Slovenia and Croatia declared independence. Fighting soon
began as the Yugoslav army, consisting primarily of Serbs, tried to
prevent Slovenia from establishing its own border posts.

Preference I feel that I dont prefer one culture over the
other. Cameroon and Croatia are both unique and beautiful places in
their own way. I guess I can say living in Croatia wouldnt be so
shocking compared to Cameroon but I do prefer where I live over
both of the places!
