Hymn: TiS 143

1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,

in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,

most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,

almighty, victorious, your great name we praise.

2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,

nor wanting, nor wasting, but ruling in might;

your justice like mountains high soaring above,

your clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

3. You give life to all, Lord, to both great and small,

in all life now living, the true life of all;

we blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree,

then wither: but ever unchanged you will be.

4. Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,

your angels adore you, all veiling their sight;

of all your rich graces this grace, Lord, impart —

take the veil from our faces, the veil from our heart.

5. All praise we would render: reveal to our sight

what hides you is only the splendour of light;

and so let your glory, Almighty, impart,

through Christ in the story, your Christ to the heart.

Page 3: Pew Sheet 10am, August 7, 2011

Greeting: The Lord be with you.

AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)

Sentence: It is the God who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' who

has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of

God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4.6

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel.

Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that we

may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.

The Summary of the Commandments:

‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the

Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all

your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and

first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your

neighbour as yourself.’

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

God of mercy and grace,

we have sometimes thought wrong things,

and done wrong things and

we have not always loved each other as we should.

We are sorry.

Forgive us and help us to love and obey you ,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution {Celebrant}

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn

to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your

sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal

life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Gloria – Ushaw Setting (Alan Rees)

CHOIR: Glory, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest,

ALL:

and peace to God’s people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High

Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Prayer of the Day

Eternal God, our glorious King,

whose Son Jesus Christ was transfigured on the holy mountain

and seen in splendour by his chosen witnesses:

grant us, his followers, faith to perceive his glory,

to listen to him, and to walk in his way,

that we may be changed into his likeness

from glory to glory;

for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: Matthew 14:22-33 (CEV)

Jesus made his disciples get into a boat and start across the lake, while

he went up on a mountain where he could be alone and pray. Later that

evening, the boat was being tossed around by the waves. Jesus came

walking on the water toward his disciples, but when they saw him, they

thought he was a ghost. They were terrified and started screaming. Jesus

said to them, "Don't worry! I am Jesus. Don't be afraid." When Jesus got

into the boat, the wind died down. The men in the boat worshiped Jesus

and said, "You really are the Son of God!"

Response: Hear the word of the Lord,

THANKS BE TO GOD

Psalm: 97:1-2, 11-12

1 The Lord is king; let the earth rejoice:

let the multitude of islands be glad.

2 Clouds and darkness are round about him:

righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

11 Light dawns for the righteous:

and joy for the true of heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous:

and give thanks to his holy name.

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET

OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD.

The Lord be with you

AND ALSO WITH YOU

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 9

beginning at the 2nd

verse.

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Jesus took Peter, James, and John and went up on a high mountain,

where they could be alone. There in front of the disciples, Jesus was

completely changed. And his clothes became much whiter than any

bleach on earth could make them. Then Moses and Elijah were there

talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, "Teacher, it is good for us to be

here! Let us make three shelters, one for you, one for Moses, and one

for Elijah." But Peter and the others were terribly frightened, and he did

not know what he was talking about. The shadow of a cloud passed over

and covered them. From the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, and I

love him. Listen to what he says!" At once the disciples looked around,

but they saw only Jesus.

Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord

PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Alleluia (sung by choir and congregation together)

TALK

The Choir sings: “O nata lux”, Thomas Tallis

O nata lux de lumine,

Jesu redemptor saeculi,

Dignare clemens supplicum

Laudes precesque sumere.

Qui carne quondam contegi

Dignatus es pro perditis,

Nos membra confer effici

Tui beati corporis.

O Light born of Light,

Jesus, redeemer of the world,

with loving-kindness deign to receive

suppliant praise and prayer.

Thou who once deigned to be clothed in

flesh

for the sake of the lost,

grant us to be members

of thy blessed body.

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.

We believe in God the Father

who made us and loves us.

We believe in Jesus Christ,

the Son of God,

who saves us and loves us.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

who loves us and gives us life.

Offertory Hymn: TiS 193

1. God, you are clothed with light,

as with a garment fair,

and in your holy sight

the saints your beauty wear;

the heavens and all therein express

the glory of your holiness.

2. Give me a robe of light

that I may walk with you:

bright as the stars are bright,

pure as their light is pure;

whose texture sin shall never stain,

but ever undefiled remain.

3. But can a sinner dare,

in rags, and sore ashamed,

lift up to God the prayer

which now my lips have framed,

while glowing seraphs fold their

wings,

and pour their sinless offerings?

4. O Christ, I lift my eyes;

your love for me I own;

in your great sacrifice

remains my hope alone;

the robe is mine, my soul to dress,

of everlasting righteousness.

Offertory Prayer: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.

Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our

offerings for your glory and for the service of your kingdom.

BLESSED BE GOD FOR EVER.

Final Hymn: TiS 135

All things bright and beautiful,

all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful —

the Lord God made them all.

1. The wildflowers in their beauty,

the mountain ranges tall,

the billabongs and rivers,

and friendly birds that call,

All things bright and beautiful …

2. The cold wind in the winter,

the bright, life-giving sun,

the ripe fruits in the garden —

he made them every one.

All things bright and beautiful …

5. He gave us eyes to see them,

and lips that we might tell

how great is God Almighty

who has made all things well.

All things bright and beautiful …
