Overview of Triangle Table Tennis Opportunities for Senior Players

Triangle Table Tennis is launching a Mid-Day Senior League in January 2016 for players age 60 and over in the Triangle area who would like to enjoy friendly competition and practice on a weekly basis. The Mid-Day Senior League is a great way for players to build skills, maintain fitness, meet other players, and enjoy casual social time and regular match play.

The Mid-Day Senior League will be played from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Mondays.

— Players are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to sign in, change shoes if needed, stretch and warm up, and get ready to play.

Each League session will enroll a maximum of 24 players. (Based on demand, a second mid-day Senior League may be added on another day of the week.)

Each session of the League lasts for approximately 3 months (no fewer than 12 meeting dates).

Triangle Table Tennis will track match results and update the “ladder” weekly. At the end of a 12-week session, each League awards prizes. Players may miss occasional individual meeting dates, but must play a minimum number of matches during the 12-week session to be eligible for prizes.

Prizes may include merchandise or pro shop gift certificates, and the value of the prizes will be no less than 20% of the league fees collected. Prizes are awarded for:

— “Best in League” – to the player with the top league rating at the end of the league

— “Most Improved in League” – to the player whose league rating improved the most over the course of the league Enrollment fees for Senior League players are significantly discounted below those for Triangle Table Tennis’ other adult leagues:

— Non-members’ Mid-Day Senior League fees are $30 per month per player ($90 total)— Members’ Mid-Day Senior League fees are $20 per month per player ($60 total).

Table Tennis Requirements

Individual players require a modest amount of gear at minimal expense

Players need clothing that allows free motion, and most will already have something appropriate, such as:

— Gym shorts, sweatpants, or other loose or stretchy pants— Tee-shirts or other shirts that allow easy arm motion

Players need non-marking athletic shoes — Rubber sole shoes are best for serious players (~$100), but not required— Shoes for other racquet sports, or for cross-training, are used by many players— Most people have non-marking sneakers and wouldn’t need to purchase shoes just to

participate in this sport

Players need a table tennis racquet (“paddle”) with black rubber on one side and red rubber on the other side

— Triangle Table Tennis can provide basic loaner racquets for $3 per visit— Most players will want their own racquet, with a wooden or composite blade and sheets

of rubber selected based on their style of play— Prices start as low as $12 for the most entry level racquet, and range up to a couple of

hundred dollars for a professional blade with customized rubber for very serious players; most players can select a good racquet for less than $50

Table Tennis has minimal requirements for players
