the ‘eco’ requirements that building regulations demand.

When it finally became impossible to delude ourselves any longer that

working from home and having a baby were in any way compatible, we

had some tough decisions to make. Did we look to extend, look to move

somewhere bigger, or think outside the box and attempt to better utilise the

garden? We invited architects, builders and garden room companies to talk

to us about the options . Extending would be the traditional solution, but no

matter how big the resulting house was, I’d still be attempting to work from

the same building in which my baby son was testing his voice... Moving

would have been disruptive, and in the then-current lending deadlock, trying

to sell our current property in order to buy a new place would have been

fraught with difficulty, and I would probably STILL have ended up working

in the same building as my baby son. The room in the garden, though

a relatively novel idea, seemed to solve all the problems.

We talked ideas through with various companies, each of which had a

different take on the same idea. When we met Martin from Swift, it was

like a breath of fresh air - anything was possible. We took the plunge, and

haven’t looked back!

When Swift were appointed as main contractors on this major construction, we knew that we had to

deliver a robust and durable building on a very tight schedule. Attention to detail in the building design

and the project management produced a fantastic result that was completed within 12 weeks, despite

appalling winter conditions and Christmas holidays.

Swift were awarded the contract for a new

build day nursery I was working on. Whilst

others tendered, Swift delivered a competitive

quote and were the favoured contractor

from day one, due to the service that my

clients received from Mr Martin Lawson the

managing director of Swift.

Whilst Martin liaised with the client with

regards to finishes, services etc. I was free

to press on with the detailed specification,

working closely with the manufacturing

side at Swift. When Swift began on site,

the merits of the build system became evident. When combined with the Swift team, the speed of construction was something I had not

previously experienced, as past work involved traditional masonry construction. A reduced construction time is always beneficial.

The end product exceeded everyone’s expectations and the nursery met its completion date deadline and received its completion certificate from

the local authority. The opening day was a success with several visitors giving positive feedback and the building certainly helped to gain new clients.

Overall, I can only compliment Swift and the service they gave both myself and the client, the end product is an achievement that sits proudly within

my portfolio. I would be happy to recommend Swift and I will be making future clients aware of the service and construction methods Swift provide.

etc. Our larger projects and extensions demand a discussion and site survey before

we are able to calculate costs. Garden rooms can often be more predictable so the

frequently asked questions Q: Do I need planning permission? In many cases your garden room or home extension can be built

within “permitted development rights”. This is a collection of

allowable developments that you can build onto, or in the gardens

of, your domestic property. The same can apply, though often less

straightforwardly, with commercial and educational projects.

Q: What if my building site has limited access?Swift garden room’s, commercial rooms and extensions are of

pre-fabricated construction and are flat packed in prefabricated

modular panels. In most situations these can be carried to site.

Our free site survey clarifies how we overcome any individual

challenges regarding access.

Q: Who will construct my garden room, extension, etc? Our fully trained, professional and customer focused team will carry

out the complete build with the minimum of disruption and with due

care and attention. When the building is completed, your new room

is cleaned, the area tidied and you take possession of the keys and

your new Swift space.

Q: Will my new Swift Room have to pass any building regulations? We will give you specific advice when we meet you and carry out

a site survey. Most of our garden rooms and garden studios already

meet or exceed most areas of building regulations but do not require

formal applications and inspections by Building Control inspectors.

Most extensions, large projects and commercial buildings will require

full building regulation conformity. Wherever building regulations are

involved, we will ensure that all standards are met and certification

is obtained.

Q:What kind of return can I expect on my investment? The current housing market has made many home improvements

the preferred route for many owners. Because we only build to high
